If these idiots did not comment saying and i ****ing quote " hahahha stupid apple you think this is a flash light hahahahaah ;) " then i to would also have this app!

No need to get mad at Apple, guys. They would give everyone free tethering if it were up to them. AT&T is to blame. Apple simply pulled the app to comply with AT&T's regulations.

Now lets just hope AT&T doesn't pressure Apple to remotely kill the app!

Those of you having problems getting it to work:

Try a different browser than Firefox.

For some reason Firefox doesn't like it. It could be the proxy setting or something. It worked perfectly in Safari and Chrome for me, but still wouldn't connect with Firefox.

Yeah, had the same problem and thought I was doing something wrong. Tried safari and worked like a charm! Awesome! :D

Help?!?

Ok here's the deal. I did this and I got connected fine. The thing is, now that I'm trying to connect back to my wifi network, it won't let me. I erased all re settings I put in on both the Mac and iPhone setting the tethering up. However when I try to connect to my network on my iPhone, it says the password is incorrect. I made sure it was correct. I tried a hard reset. No luck. Now for my Mac. When I try to connect on my Mac, it takes a while to find the ip address and when it can't find one it self assigns it therefore not connecting to the Internet. I tried resetting the computer and the airport card. No luck with that either. Anyone encountering this problem? If so, do u have a fix? Thanks.

AWESOME: If you plug your phone in to your laptop with the USB cable, you can sleep the phone while the screen is purple and the app will continue tethering!

My phone has had it's screen off for about ten minutes and tethering the entire time (the phone is very hot, but at least the screen is off).

Does anyone think that this guy may have put this Easter egg into other random applications? He has like 10 other ones that seemingly don't have a use... No offense or anything.

Poor dumb kid

I hope he enjoys his 15 minutes of fame before he realizes that he now wont be able to get into any good colleges. Not that it matters since his college fund will all go to Apple and legal fees.

There's a good chance Apple will kill the app since it's intent is to illegally steal service from AT&T (bitch all you want but thats the legal situation). Now in that case everyone that bought it will have their money refunded from his developer account. Of course Apple keeps its 30% so he will be on the hook 30% of the sales out of his own pocket plus there is a strong chance Apple will sue his ass for the stunt.

Well if nobody said anything, you wouldn't know about it anyway

All the more reason for the world's networks to blame Apple. Tethering built in to iOS 4 is the only official way to tether. And it's free up until it comes to the network.

For those on macs having a problem connecting using this tool, it took me about 30 minutes to figure out the subnet you enter on the iphone network settings must be the same as what the wireless settings are on the laptop.

In the example, he uses 255.255.255.0 and mine for some reason is 255.255.252.0

Works fine.

WAIT. iChat and everything works when i go back to my home network, but now none of my web browsers can connect to the internet? anyone have any insight?

Try removing the SOCKS proxy server setting from your airport preference settings

worked for me

Turn off your SOCKS proxy

Just an FYI to those mentioning Firefox isn't working; unlike Safari which uses the global network settings under the network preference pane, Firefox does it from within the the browser setting itself. You should be able to set up the SOCKS proxy from within Firefox, but I haven't had a chance to try that yet.

well it was fun while it lasted. The problem with something like this is too many people find out about it and it eventually gets back to apple somehow... between all the idiotic comments left on the app itself, and a major site like macrumors hosting it, the gravy train will inevitably not last long...

oh well, i got it in time! (and if it weren't for macrumors i wouldn't even have known about it!) :p

1) Follow instructions in Appshopper website
2) Manually set the IP for your laptop's adapter to something in the 13.37.13.xx range (xx = any number 0-255 except 37) and set subnet mask to 255.0.0.0
3) ****DOWNLOAD SAFARI FOR WINDOWS****
4) Change the settings under preferences>advanced>Proxies (click change settings) then click on the LAN settings button. Uncheck automatically detect settings, check Use a proxy... and click advanced. Uncheck use same proxy server for all protocols and erase all the numbers on HTTP, secure & ftp. Enter 13.37.13.37 and port 1337 in the Socks line. Click ok
5) Browse the internet!

Thanks to the developer and congrats to those who were able to download it

This worked. Thanks

Not sure why Safari is required...but whatever works right?

ANother Wiin7 question. Were you able to create an AdHoc network w/ Encryption. My iphone/ipad would not connect to a WPA network created by my laptop.

Downloaded it earlier while shopping. Thank god for the mac rumors news tweet! Just got home and tested it out. Works like a charm!
