It's official. Apple's decision to move iOS to a flat design style was the right move!

Just take a look at all the featured apps on the app store. They're absolutely beautiful. Flat design has removed the superfluous, and made all apps that have adopted the style rich with simplicity and beauty.

The world is better because of this shift. Digital interfaces are now more beautiful than ever. Bringing more smiles to more peoples faces.

It's official: Apple was right again.

I don't know if flat is good, but there are some apps that are not based on real world symbolism that are really, really nice. The WSJ app for the iphone is one such app. It's a shining example of how to develop an iphone app, yet it's not skeumorphic nor is it white.

To both of you, how would you display the wifi or battery with circles? Thanks for ignoring common sense ;)

The battery meter could be in dots, the same with the WiFi range meter. Why is signal cell strength any different when it comes to measurement than WiFi strength and battery life? Signal strength bars take up less space, and they look classy. The circles look cheap to me.

If flat is so good, then how come you have to explain that to everyone?

Because it seems to me than an unreasonable amount of people dislike it. Its not the first time in history something of quality wasn't properly appreciated.

Also, the people who aren't satisfied are a little louder about it. For example, they create multiple threads complaining about something they approve of and post as many negative comments as they could.

But there's never going to be an OS that pleases everyone. I think the overall reaction to iOS 7 has been mostly positive.

Nor would it be the first time that something without as much quality to it was still appreciated by plenty of people (despite not actually being all that good).

I recommend downloading Apple's (free) "iOS Human Interface Guidelines" from the iBooks Store, even if you're not a developer.

The book itself is beautiful, and it seems more so being stuffed full of iOS 7 example screens.

You do realize developers had no choice but to adopt the flat design. Personally, I like the flat design even though some apps are too flat for me:)

This app is optimized for iOS 7 and skeuomorphic at the same time.

Touche my good sir!!

Flat ios 7 vs shiny ios 6

At first I hated ios 7 UI and I stayed on ios 6 but after owning in r mini since december, I started to like ios 7 even though I have an iphone 4, now I like 7 more than 6. "Stockholm syndrome"? Anyone feeling the same?

Both designs are good. I like simplicity, but do think that some aspects of iOS 7 are completely dumb. Seriously, why must I have dots rather than signal bars?

Why use words for features, while leaving symbols for others. "Shuffle All" in the Music.app comes to mind.

Come on now, dots for signal is pretty dumb.

Whats the issue with it? I think bars with different heights was superfluous.

Only time signal strength matters is if its crap, or if its good. Dots get the point across in both scenarios, and make for a cleaner UI

And needlessly take up more space and differ from pretty much any other phone out there as they use pretty much universally accepted standard of bars for signal strength workout much reason. As far as when things matter, I agree that it's mostly in the extremes and even then mostly on the bad/no signal side of things.

Oh boy, you know Apple and standards to get along too well :)
