I would pay a few more dollars for the Phantom Spirit 120 SE over the Peerless Assassin, the noise reduction alone is worth the extra few more dollars.
I'm not a fan of the way it looks.

Nice setup, do you already have the GPU? The option is greyed out in the pc partpicker.

Oh okay, yea I mean if you're not opting the change the fans from the case out it shouldn't matter anyways. Fractal makes nice cases but their fans are loud. My Fractal north was all changed to Be Quiet and its zen quiet. Just something I care about.

I’ve ordered the GPU today as well. Doesn’t work on PC Partpicker due to the way founders cards are sold. It was £949.

I’ve had a Torrent in the past, the 180mm fans are decent. Being so big you don’t need high rpm. I’ve also had the PA120 in my last build and didn’t find the acoustics problematic. The 9700x isn’t a super hot CPU so won’t need lots of air to cool it.

I hate loud fans. They are stupid. I could not care one iota about how they look as long as they do their job and are SILENT.

Stupid Apple's fans are not cooling computers, they buy them and heat the price.

Yeah I have been looking at the latest moves that Microsoft has made, and it has finally pushed me back into using my gaming laptop just for gaming and remoting into work. I booted up my M4 Mac Mini again. I may have my issues with Apple, but they are mostly minor by comparison. At least they have Advanced Data Protection and their stuff actually works...

This winter, I will probably swap out my M4 Mini for an M4 Macbook Air 15"...I miss having a laptop more than I thought I would.

I slept on it and decided to stick with the Mac mini M4 + GFN. Main reason is cost and simplicity. I was close, but pulled out at the last minute!
The price of Nvidia cards isn't great these days. Any savings in RAM and hard drives is pretty much offset by the cost of the graphics card. :(

Yeah, there were two major factors that pushed me back into the apple fold, the cost of PC hardware, and microsoft pushing the recall stuff, telemetry and ads baked into the operating system

Windows I think is still good for the desktop, you can build a very powerful PC that can smoke any Apple desktop (if you don’t care about power consumption). However, in laptop department, Windows laptops are kinda joke right now.

Yeah but it kind of depends on what you want to do and how much you want to pay to do it. Nvidia cards cost an absolute fortune right now.

I also couldn't stomach the layoffs for no reason as the cloud services (not the AI they are blowing tens of billions on) get the company past 4 trillion in market cap. They are wanting total layoffs of 25%!!!!! FOR NO REASON. I mean as a fellow IT dev, what am I supposed to do with that? If Apple actually went after gaming, I wouldn't look back. Until then, I will get the minimum viable windows device I can and do everything else on Mac.

Placed a new order for something a little less overkill and more reasonably priced. My last attempt was basically £2,000, this one is just over £1,500. Tried to keep the spec creep under control.

Gone for the Zotac 5070 Ti (£749.99) as I prefer Nvidia for the games I play. I'm also not a massive fan of the 9070 XT models for the most part.

Been trying to get the build to work within the NZXT H3 flow, because I am a fan of the older H400 micro ATX.

That seems sensible...we demand pics when you get the parts! :D

I knew once the seed was planted you would commit aha. Been really happy going mid range this time round, I originally wanted to go 9800X3D + 5080.

As much as I liked the M3 Air and that I don't really game that much, having a PC build means I can easily play games at good performance when I feel like it. Plus using a controller with the PS5 was frustrating.

Totally agree, life would be easy if I could use a console, but I have been a keyboard/mouse guy for way too long. So I have to have a windows gaming machine for that mainly.

As someone who owns a AMD GPU, I do think the DLSS implementation is superior to that of FSR. When I was looking at GPU the 7800 XT had more vram, and similar rasterization performance of a 4070. It can't keep with ray tracing, but that's not a feature I really care about.

If I were to build a PC in 2025, I definitely would go with a nvidia card
