Gotcha. I use AM even though we are not on any apple devices. I use ondrive, onenote, and phone link. All three can do everything besides books and Apple products. Apple just syncs across all anyways. I use cider for my am on windows.
I found AM to be fine on Windows...well except switching audio outputs for some reason. Which admittedly is quite important. Oh and I needed iTunes to burn CDs recently. Never mind. It clearly still has some issues LOL.

Burn CD? wow, have not done that in about 10 years. ha ha. I use Cider on my windows systems, works better than the official apple music client.

Ha reverse that. I mean turn CDs into MP3s. With Apple Music, you can then have the new CDs loaded into your library and use it on every device. (In this case, it was for my wife--who wanted Garth Brooks.)

I moved one trading display from the Mac Studio to the Windows PC and I really like this setup. I actually haven't used the Mac Studio in a few days outside of it being a NAS. I strictly speaking don't need it outside as running it as a NAS. My concern is that I'll need something when the iMac Pro is no longer supported and that I won't be able to get an M5 Studio in any decent time frame.

I am staying on windows. I have a linux box to play with to keep me realizing that windows is the best for us. ha ha. I am going to find a new motherboard for my laptop. I can't give the ole girl up. She's been beat on figuratively a lot. she's in perfect physical condition except for wear from my wrists on the chassis and touchpad. It has all the ports, good display, fast enough for my work now, and decent battery life with her 3rd high capacity battery. All in all, I can't give it up, it's just one of those devices that fits like a glove for my use case.

Sure I would love to have a new processor with graphics card built in but it's not a show stopper for me.

Why not just buy a used one with higher specs?

At the moment, the things keeping me on macOS are: Calendar, Reminders, Downie, Growly Notes, Numbers, the ability to use Macs as a NAS without having to wake up the device to get access, independent virtual desktops, privacy and integration with iOS and iPadOS. So I'm still better off being Windows and macOS. I don't see most of these changing. I can find Windows substitutes for some of these but some of these I can't replace.

I have the max spec in my current laptop. 1165G7, 64gb ram IrisXe graphics that uses 32gb of ram from my 64, and a fast 2tb SSD. It does what I need, but it's having stability issues because of a bad MOBO. Works 90 percent of the time.

Sounds similar to my now five year old Windows laptop staring at me, almost unused, because it is having problems, it seems, with its wireless. Probably repairable, but, not worth it. I've gotten rid of its predecessors. I've had such a better experience with Macs. But, since you mentioned Xe graphics, I admit they fooled me again on that five years ago: just as hot as its predecessors, not nearly as performant as I was led to believe. Now, should I trust what "they" are saying about Panther Lake, or, will it be Groundhog Day again?

If its unstable, I definitely would look to replacing it. If the instability is due to component failure, that 10% failure rate will only get worse as the component continues to die a slow death.
Working on it. I am sourcing a replacement motherboard. I might even bite the bullet and buy a new one from Dell for more money just to have new. The price of systems now are rediculous.

As for the heat etc. I have no such issues you claim @BSDnostalgia. My system is very performant an both cpu and graphics. Very similar to m1 systems. Within a few seconds of each other doing the same work flows using the same software.

I think I am going to forgo the motherboard replacement and get a framework 13 pro and say eff it. I will move to zorin and use that

Sitting at my workstation for the first time in almost a month. WOW. This is how a computer should work. If i could get this exact experience in a laptop that's 14 inchs I would be so happy. Anyone know of something 14 inches with a slim and lightweight profile, a SD card reader and enough power to edit multiple cam 4k footage? I am having trouble finding any.

That's a pretty tall ask.

No thanks. Because it runs MacOS. Can't use it.
Perhaps, not for nothing, hardware wise, it does check all of the boxes you mentioned.

Also in defense of macOS, its a good OS, solid, stable, and has a lot of upsides. I think Tahoe missed the mark for many people, while I'm largely unbothered by liquid glass, I feel as a whole, its a good platform.

With that said, you need to spend your money on something you want/like and if the Mac isn't the right tool for the job because of the operating system - fair enough

I just can't get used to macos. I tried it 3 times before then end up selling it all off again. Last time I went with max spec mini, a MacBook pro, cinema display new iPhone and iPad. Sold it all off besides the iPad which I moved to my son. Lost literally thousands of dollars selling it locally about 4 month after buying it all.

This is probably what I am going to get. I have been extensively searching for something to replace my laptop. Just realized it's 6 years old, and to replace the mobo is 850.00 cdn. I can get that MBP M2 Pro chip with 32gb of ram and 512 for 1800. It's, like you said the only 14 inch with the features I want. I will have to bend MacOS to my will with some third party apps to make it more windows like.

I wish you all the luck in world. A great start is Better Snap Tool that allows for windows snapping functionality. But finder is just finder. The new dock is the new dock. I am just finding it easier to just use my gaming laptop for everything. My Mac just sits there. I am hoping WWDC (sorry I meant WVDC) pulls me back in. Instead I think we are getting AI slop (private AI slop, but AI slop nonetheless).

I am sitting here now typing on my 10th gen iPad. I have been watching a couple of videos showing mutliple microphone and person podcast setups using just the ipad. A new iPad Pro I could everything I need and be very very mobile. Affinity works as it should, I can edit videos and photos without issue. I can write, create etc all on the iPad. I never really gave it a chance until watching those videos.

There are things it probably can't do, but for me it works.

I wish you luck, I have never been able to pull it off. I need desktop level OSes.
