Windows has so many issues with vulnerability, security issues, and privacy concerns that I'd avoid taking a stance that this doesn't happen on windows.

Honestly, Windows 11 is meanwhile pretty good at sandboxing, especially regarding virtualization!
Even that good, that I had to find manual workarounds to make VirtualBox as fast as it was earlier on Windows 10.

No question, but from a privacy perspective its an absolute nightmare. The whole GDID thing shows the depth of how much MS is collecting and using.

I will say that the more I look into that GDID thing, the weirder it gets. Like disable all but the required telemetry (he didn’t), don’t use Edge (he did), use local account so MS doesn’t have a way to connect it to anything else (he didn’t).
Also, Apple does the same thing, just doesn’t give it to the authorities when they ask (and may not be tracking in the same way—can’t really prove or disprove that one. Other than on the iPhone, they do say that all location based data is device only.
Even Linux has a device ID based on the mobo and other things.
It’s not a good situation, so I have decided that whatever I choose to use as my OS, I am using LibreOffice, Obsidian, and a bunch of local based cross platform stuff (I have my own Unraid server).
I currently use an iPad Pro as my main tablet (an M1 like a bazillion years old now), and an M4 MBA on the go.
I still use my Lenovo Legion 7 Pro RTX 5090 for gaming and the like. I also use very little MS software any more. I don’t even use Office or MS TO do (thank you Super Productivity for your WebDAV and encrypted self!). No OneNote, ANd I use Brave or Firefox for surfing.
I may end up switching to Linux, but mostly just staying on the Apple side of things (with Advanced Data Protection) and hoping for the best.
I use an iCloud ID on Macs but never use a cloud account on Windows. The main reason is that it's a nuisance on Windows though. You get a lot more crap.
I have to install Windows 10 on my iMac Pro to see if I can get it to Windows 11. Maybe I should just leave it at 10. They've extended support to Fall 2027 but I wonder if they will extend it to Fall 2028.

Yeah I also use CloudID on Mac, but I do have ADP enabled. Even better is just be LAN only with most things.

I don't really care anymore. everyone is doing it. I don't like third parties letting their crappy Ai or apps run free. At this point when it comes to the big three, that's a given. No way around it. Having 3rd party stuff go awol on your system is the Ai pandoras box. Apple, MS, and Google are the same thing. no different. I use MS and it's services, and for the most part besides their website going down right when I needed my bitlocker code was very frustrating, as for functionality of the OS or software itself, it works quite well.
As I said before, i tried linux more times than I tried MacOS which was 3 seperate times. All left me wanting to be back on my windows system so I can have the software I use.....WORK.

I tried to make myself go 'all Mac' and I just couldn't do it. I must be in the minority that finds windows 11 to be good?
It's way more responsive than MacBook Pro, and just kind of gets out of the way and lets me work. I don't get all these AI interferences that people talk about.

There are. ProArt, XPS with dedicated graphics, if you don't care about the look of your laptop there are a myriad of gaming laptops that are as good as the MBP at video editing.
The ProArt is probably the best choice however. Hell i do video editing on my old dell with the 1165g7 chip. Is it as fast as a brand new macbook pro? No, does it hang with the m1 macbook pro? yes.
As you, I have tried to go all apple three times only to sell my mac's at a huge loss only months later as I cannot stand MacOS. So, you are not alone.
I flipped back to macOS on the desktop. The motivation was the Windows program's future replacement adding one feature that I need. They are working on adding the other but I can use it as my main interface now. The older program runs in the background to display some things.
One reason why I like to flip-flop is that it gives me the chance to rebuild my desk from scratch. Over time, the wrong cables are used (not long enough, too long, not the right speed), and stuff just accumulates on the desk with the computer. Flipping means cleaning everything up.
I should start thinking of a replacement for the iMac Pro. It may be an M4 Pro mini with a ProArt 5k display. One of the limitations of my M1 Max Studio is ports. I have two NVMe drives which use two ports. The other two ports are used for two monitors and the HDMI port is used for the third monitor. I'd need an Ultra if I wanted it to support four monitors and two NVMe drives. The easiest solution would be to get an M4 mini, M4 Pro or M4 Max Studio and use the computers together. Since I can't get any of those, it's a moot point right now. I am hoping for an M5 or M6 release this fall. But even with that, it will probably be a wait to actually get one.
The funny thing is that my primary traveling platform is Windows. Apple just does not make enough SKUs to get me a comfortable laptop with my requirements. I have been wanting a larger display and am trying an inexpensive solution. I just ordered 1.5 magnification prescription readers. I can read my Yoga 14 4k screen at 1.25 to 1.5 scaling. 1.75 sometimes feels too big. What I want to try is 1.5 scaling in the glasses with native 4k at 14 inches. This should be comparable to viewing a 21 inch monitor with 4k resolution. If it works, then there's no need to consider a 16 or 18 inch laptop because the 14 with special glasses would have higher effective size. I might even try 1.75 scaling with glasses. It may be a way to get effectively a much larger screen while maintaining the size and weight benefits of a smaller machine.
I wanted to add up interest numbers for July and I pulled up Windows calculator and, to my horror, it didn't have an RPN option. I didn't feel like grabbing a third-party program so I went to the basement and used my HP-67 which is getting close to 50 years old. There's nothing like the feel and display of an HP-67.

Do you think readers will work for laptop distances? When I use mine I can't see the screen clearly. I am thinking of prescription glasses for on my computers only.
I use my laptop at readers distance. If you use your laptop further away, then it may not work. At any rate, I'll find out.
This sort of thing is usually done for reading books.
I have terminal glasses for monitors.

I have one foot on each side. Well, on the desktop. I haven't yet found a Windows laptop that compares to the M4 MBP that I have, but I do not have much need for a second laptop right now, it's only something that would be nice to have; not $1000 nice though.
I built a new Windows desktop last year (lucky timing) and it's been a good experience. All of my software works beautifully on it, all of the games I have from over the years. I can still use Photoshop 7.0 that I bought on a CD 25ish years ago, and it does everything I need it to. No subscription needed. I use a software called Exact Audio Copy to make bit-perfect rips of music CDs, which I still buy often. I have been using this software for about 20 years. Still using Office 2003 after all these years, as I never adjusted to the Ribbon.
Most all of the games I play on this computer are 20-30 years old. Civilization II-IV, Diablo I/II, StarCraft, etc. Overall the point is that despite this computer being brand new, I am doing the same things I've done for the last few decades, I have not had to change or update software just to move on with the times. You can argue that I should move on, but I haven't found a reason to... Staying with what works has not presented me with any difficulties. Yes, Photoshop has more features today than it did 25 years ago, but I don't use them. I have used newer versions at different times, but I know what I need and it is most certainly not worth a subscription to gain any little niche features that might help me out a bit. I am also 68 years old which means I am fairly set in my ways mentally by now. Adjusting to new things does not come as easily as it used to.
With that said though I do still prefer a lot of how macOS works for day-to-day use, I just have a hard time finding software for it that I find useful. Much of what I find by comparison is second-rate, and there are certain things like EAC that in my opinion are simply not replaceable. So I use both, macOS is more for the casual side of my computing life though. Most of the serious work gets done on Windows. Apple is just relentless in their drive forward without any regards for backwards-compatibility. I still have all my old Mac software too but it's absolutely useless with a new computer. I do still have older Macs as you can see in my sig, but it does not compare to a brand-new Windows machine.
