Cool, thanks for sharing. I'll join his discord and start poking around.

I'll keep an eye out for your conversations. I'm considering the various options: Windows and WSL2, Ubuntu, and even OpenCore. All of these would allow me to run Windows and macOS on the same system - it's just a matter of who's the host and who's the guest. Or I could go dual-boot.

Windows and WSL2, Ubuntu,
That's the stage I'm at. I want to do more research on which linux would be the best for this. I've used WSL in the past and used ubuntu, but before I take that plunge, I want to make sure I'm not setting myself of to fail or have headaches

I would rather that I had another machine to test these different approaches but my other Windows desktop won't support any of these setups. I think that it would be a moderate amount of work to try these three approaches just to get Geekbench results on the same hardware and even to compare with OpenCore.

OMG, I'm having a hard time with WSL. I get it installed, but looking at the windows features, it still isn't showing. Sometimes I get ubuntu installed but its not really running. Most other times it throws this error WslRegisterDistribution failed with error: 0x800700b7

I've tried installing it via the command line and msft app store, both wsl and ubuntu. I'm installing 22h2 on my machine and cleaning things up - hopefully that will fix it but I'm off to a rather inauspicious (and frustrating) start

That was my experience with WSL1. I found an article describing how to get macOS running on WSL1 and I was never able to get it to work but it was a real pain getting WSL running in the first place. I would have thought that there are good directions out there today to get it up and running. There are tons of people using it but it might be a club.

Ventura installation running using W10 -> VMware -> Ubuntu -> Docker-OSX. I didn't expect it to be this easy. This is just my first test install. I will wipe it and do another one with permanent settings if this works well. There are a lot of customization options and my experience is that it's good to get it running and then figure out what you want. This can take a few hours.

I'm going to create a separate thread for Docker-OSX. It seems like it belongs in this forum but it's something that most might be curious about but not interested in from a flip-flopping perspective.

@LiE_ is someone who reminds me of me!
I can't decide on one singular platform. So I choose to use them all. And I do mean literally all. Except iOS, I really don't like iOS. But I use Linux/Win/Mac daily.

Before I would sell everything I had and go all in on a OS. But then would get bored, or something would be missing, etc. So if you can afford it, having one of each pc/laptop + mac/macbook is a winner.

I'm still collecting my thoughts, but I am moving back into Timmy's embrace.

Is it a lease, rental or sub-lease?

I suspect that I will move in and out because stuff sometimes breaks on macOS. I really should wait a couple of months on new macOS releases but I just wanted a couple of features in Ventura so I didn't wait.

I have no plans to sell my Windows desktop but it is going to be turned off until I need it again.

So the main reason for ditching the custom PC and Android is mostly mental state. Let me explain.

When I get into the PC world I find I'm constantly preoccupied with thoughts related to tech, communities and gaming. YouTube videos on the latest releases, reviews, game news, communities discussing games and custom builds. It all feels a like I'm trying hard to be part of that when deep down I prefer simple and minimalism.

Apple for me in the past has hit the right notes in terms of minimalism and just working. It's simple, fewer products and they all work seamlessly together.

I spend all day at my desk for my job and with my lackluster desire to play games means it's very unnecessary to have a custom PC. When I finish work I don't like thinking about an expensive PC built to play games not being used so it hangs over me.

So I'm returning to simpler times. An iPhone and a desktop Mac.

I'll have to wait until the 2023 macs come out because right now there isn't a fit for me. I need more than 16GB RAM but don't want a Mac Studio. So that means waiting for the updated iMac or a new Mac Mini with M2 or M3 and speccing 24GB RAM.

I've also decided to return my dedicated camera. Keeping things simple I will just use my iPhone. Trying to find a mint iPhone 13 pro.

Honestly, I work in IT, and am on a computer/macOS all day long. So, I totally get where you're coming from.
Good luck with everything...

You're a ****ing disgrace to those who gamble on your flipping. Have some ****ing consistency and at least wait weeks, not days! Not talking to you anymore.

What's your next prediction? 😅

Hopefully microsoft agrees to delete my account for good today as promised back in October!
Yes they Did!
2023 looks good!

You need to get to my position. Have both. It's the only way. Have whatever you want Apple but also have a decent PC to scratch that itch when needed. The thing is since I have kept both I am now rarely even near the PC. But if it wasn't there I would be "I really need a PC..".

Yea the FOMO is strong for sure.

Yes, I agree with this. It has certainly worked for me. Alas, some might not be fortunate to have this option.
