Having both isn't an option for me, my minimalist nature means I don't like having things (even more so expensive things) not being properly utilized. I just need to firmly remind myself that I don't actually enjoy PC gaming, just the idea of PC gaming.

I still may get a PS5 and PSVR2 as my son has a big interest in VR and the PS5 is the most fun I've had gaming in along time.

just the idea of PC gaming.
I kind of can see that perspective. For me, I really wish the MBP was able to play the small subset of games I'm interested in. BUT with that said, there are things that windows does better - at least for my needs and wants. I'm pretty happy with how I've been using both my Mac and PC. My Mac has been getting used a ton this past week as its the best machine for me as I hole up in my spare bedroom trying to get over covid.

You need to get to my position. Have both. It's the only way. Have whatever you want Apple but also have a decent PC to scratch that itch when needed. The thing is since I have kept both I am now rarely even near the PC. But if it wasn't there I would be "I really need a PC..".
See, i don’t think that’s the itch, I think it’s about researching the latest and greatest, then doing it over and over, thus @LiE_ is always searching for something better.

I love the builds, saves me doing it and I can just read about it. 😀

I think there's something to be said about that. For me, one of the most enjoyable parts of building a computer or even just buying one, is the endless research before pulling the trigger. The build is enjoyable, but at that point, I'm more interested in the final result not reveling in the build process.

If money wasn't so tight for me, I'd probably consider looking to start another build but my current but truth be told, I'm really happy with my 11700k, I have it running relatively cool, it doesn't draw too much power and overall is more then enough speed for my needs - but the itch is there :)

Happy new years to you

Back on iPhone. Went with a pristine 13 Pro for £720. The 14 Pro gave me a headache but I don't remember having a headache when using the 13 Pro back when it was first launched so this was a logical move.

The colour is quite nice!

I've tried android over the years and nothing really beats the iPhone. My family, uses iPhones, so that helps increase the need, as its so much easier for one of them to face time me. With an android that will stop, and no one would be interested in using a 3rd party app to take the place. I'm in the ecosystem, but very happy. I think overall its a very good place to be.

I think the 14 is an underwhelming option, I have the 12, my battery is shot, but at this point I'd rather stick with it and see what the 15 has to offer.

The gaming thing is a real conundrum. I ended up just using a dedicated mid-range gaming pc for that and nothing else. For everything else I use my M1 MBA 512/16 and my M1 iPad Pro 12.9”.

I do get twitchy once in a while and want a Surface Pro 8 to replace my M1 iPad Pro and M1 Macbook Air. Luckily (I guess) Apple came to their senses and trashed CSAM (which MS still does with Onedrive) and added Advanced Data Protection. This coupled with the insane mac-specific apps I suddenly use (mainly DevonThink, Ulysses, Numbers, and Pages) has quieted the switch demons for now.

My wife is always concerned they will reappear though. 👿👿👿

LOVE researching and building a new PC… The itch is going to get worse as GPU prices plummet further!!! *says over and over* My current gaming PC is fine, my current gaming PC is fine.

The value of PC gaming is poor right now, if I wanted to game a XBX or PS5 would be where I'd put my money.

I think a mint 13 pro is a good option especially since it cost me less than a new iPhone 14. Android is fine for me being in the UK as everyone uses WhatsApp, I don't receive iMessages anymore really. However I really do prefer the seamless device integration and aesthetic of iOS. The apps are more polished on iOS too, one banking app on Android I use is completely broken if you try to scroll your transaction history. I reached out the app support team and they said they are aware of it, 2 months later and several updates later, it's still no better.

I really wish it were that simple. For gamers like the OP (and myself), it becomes a bit more complicated. I prefer the Apple ecosystem, but there are too many sacrifices and roadblocks for gamers. Maybe one day....
Yeah and Apple not opening up the M1 & 2 CPUs, especially the Pro and Ultra versions to gaming is a real bummer. This and backwards compatibility with older SW/Games is what keeps me away atm.

This is something I don’t understand because the HW certainly is there for a very good Gaming Experience. Heck even the M1 Air could do some decent gaming…

It used to be something that kept me away but after having my series x the past year, I realized how much console gaming has evolved and matured. Now I have the best of both worlds for my needs, I got my series x set up at a desk with a monitor and my m2 MacBook Air sharing the desk and monitor when needed. I love this combo a lot

My wife runs the pc gaming set up with her razer laptop but honestly my xbox experience is much smoother than her windows gaming experience most days lol.

I game on the consoles and Pcs, and a case can be made for both platforms. I like gaming on my Pc, because I find keyboard and mouse to be a better experience and I have access to games not available on the console.

With that said, I'm looking to get a PS5, I had a PS4 and it was great but I think it might be time to take the plunge with PS5

I would honestly take the plunge and give it a try. I was a pc gamer for years, never console. I never bought myself a console until an xbox one during covid after being out of gaming for several years. But the series x is a whole other level for playing experience. I run it on a 1440p 165hz monitor as well and games look amazing and smooth.

Definitely cases to be made for both, but this combo works fantastic for me so far

Ideally I’d own everything - Gaming console(s), Gaming Pc, Mac, iPad, iPhone, etc. but I have to draw the line somewhere even though I can afford everything. At some point it’s just throwing out money. Who is going to use and game on 5-7 systems?

Mind you apart from the Mac and iPad I have everything, including about 7 consoles though this and the last gen I went only with Playstation.

The only thing I don't have is a console. I have tried them in the past but can't work beyond the mouse and keyboard when gaming. I just never got used to the controller approach to things.

If my hand was forced and I had to choose between my M2 MBA or PC the PC would go. Just too invested in the Eco System. Not just me but my wife and kids too. We use facetime a lot, sharing calendar events, notes, AirDrop and so on.

The ease of the Air Pods Pro switching from phone to iPad to Watch to Mac, is just effortless. And a lot more.

Apple almost lost me during the butterfly keyboard fiasco but they did pull it back with the M1 and then improved the whole offering much further with the M2 MBA. I am still really pissed I paid £1,949 for it though. If I hadn't been able to buy it without finance I wouldn't have paid that much.

I've had consoles before, and what held me back was their setup with my TV in the living room or bedroom. In both cases I'm sitting on a couch or recliner playing. I'm probably 3 or 4 feet away and while the TV is large, I am some distance. I had trouble with text and seeing small things on the screen. Plus being on the tv, I interrupted family members from the access of the tv. I could possibly set it up on my monitor, but at that point, why not just keep using my PC?

As for this topic, I have to say, I'm closer to flopping back to the PC since flipping to Macs. I'm not giving up on my Macs, but the usefulness of my MBP is not as great as my Razer laptop and/or my desktop PC. I still love the MBP, its a great laptop but the practicality of it is more limited. I find its best role is to be a sort of hub for my apple centric devices, i.e., backing up iPhones and what not. Managing my apple services and interacting with icloud.

so its the programs, then the computer?
meaning you use windows software more especially for gaming so windows provides a better option for you?
The Dell XPS 13" did everything the MacBook Air M1 does, but with less battery and an extra step software-wise.

I need to tell these neighbors who think they hate apple
why I have 3 MacBooks
and I will use that "software" card.

In my mind its always software that drives what computer to buy. No matter how greatly designed, wonderfully built a computer could be, if it doesn't do what I need it to do, then, its a waste of money.

The Mac does a lot of what I need a computer for, but not all. I rely more on windows, partly for game playing, but also for the software I tend to run.

I agree. I do think the 13 pro/pro max is the better option. I got my 13 pro max around the launch of the 14 series and I don’t regret it. Half of my family use iPhones and half use android phones including my husband. But like you say iMessage is a mute issue as we all use WhatsApp. I think for me I’m just so engrained in the ecosystem and used to it I couldn‘t switch. I’ve been using an iPhone exclusively since 2014 and also used it between 2009-2012. I did try in 2019 to switch back to the android with the note 10+ but I only lasted about 6/7 days before my iphone was taken out again and the note gotten rid of. There’s nothing wrong with android phones but I’m just more comfortable using an iPhone and other Apple devices.

As for windows I’m not really a fan. I switched to Mac as my personal computer in 2015 and haven’t been back. I think I’ve been traumatised by years of poor hardware and buggy software. I‘ve continued to use windows laptops for work (no choice). Currently work from home and have to use a windows laptop all day long. It’s ok. More stable than any any of my past experiences. However I will say that my MacBook still uses an intel chip which is older than the chip in my work windows laptop. However my MacBook is significantly, faster and smoother than the windows laptop.
