First of all, yes it is superior and that even goes without saying.
LOL
Only because you want to talk about ads, I don't have to.
Well, talking about ads was your first post in this thread after all.

I want to talk about all the ways in which Windows is garbage,
Then you're in the wrong place, this sub-forum is far more open to discussing any computing, not just Apple stuff.
You don't have a 90% market share on laptops above $1000+ if your product isn't far superior.
btw, you have any proof of that? I don't believe it's true.

Well it's really "Only M2". People have lots of different needs. I can pick an GTXxxxx today and replace only that specific component with a RTXxxxx tomorrow as my needs change without having to buy an entirely new device. I know you know that and are just stirring the pot.
I went with this mantra for years with My PC's and it worked OK. It finally got to the point that my GPU's was more powerful than the rest of the computer. I added the total cost of all of the upgrades and finally I realized I was better off just upgrading the whole machine every few years. But I just could not see doing that with a Windows based machine, I was too used to the upgrade thing. It was surprisingly hard for me to switch to macOS but now that I have I am not at all sorry. But I still have a part of me firmly in the PC world. If I could get SDRuno, Win4ICOM, and Gridtracker for the Mac that might change. 😀

The answer is PS5 $449.
That’s your answer? Mine allows me to run virtually any software including AAA gaming titles, but also anything from adobe photoshop to blender to Office 365 to AIs that use GPUs to anything—even 32 bit apps.

And you reply with a, let me get this straight, Playstation 5? A console.

😆😆😆😆😆😆😆

And that doesn’t even include the absurdity of the “M2” from your other post on the same topic. At least a macbook pro can compete some (again for more than twice the price) and the 32 bit apps—which aren’t allowed.

It finally got to the point that my GPU's was more powerful than the rest of the computer.
If you give people the choice, they will build an unbalanced system. Pairing way too much RAM with an M1 or putting an M1 Ultra into an iMac chassis, which can't properly cool it and would constantly throttle. Balancing software, hardware, heat, noise, battery life and performance is what we pay Apple for.
I added the total cost of all of the upgrades and finally I realized I was better off just upgrading the whole machine every few years. But I just could not see doing that with a Windows based machine, I was too used to the upgrade thing.
The freedom and peace of mind of not even having the choice to tinker with the machine. ☺️

The entire point of the thread is that we are fanboys of nothing. I was secretly hoping for a really, really good reason for mac to pull me back in. It just didn’t happen. Which is fine, I love my gaming PC and laptop. I also really like my iPad Pro (the best tablet) and iPhone Pro Max (the best phone OS)—even my Apple Watch Series 5 (the best smartwatch OS and hardware line).

So, again, I am not wedded to any one company. In fact, that seems downright silly to be honest. It isn’t like Apple cares about me personally.

Edited to add: Here is all I could find about market share, and Apple is actually doing pretty well (with less than 10%)

Exactly. I use everything except for macOS, for now…I see that changing soon. I will see what I think of it after a month of using it.

We all have different views about Apple and Microsoft plus others here, but we don't get into arguments, more about respecting each person's views and opinions even if someone else has a particularly strong opposing view it's all good debate, not "YOU'RE WRONG $$!!@#!" which is just all too common elsewhere.

Don't be, you couldn't train your own AI on an Nvidia GPU and that's what you truly want from a PC, right?
As a developer: maybe yes, exactly this.

I develop CUDA applications, some professionally, some are pet projects. So actually yes, I want that in a PC.

Do I prefer macOS? Yes I do, although I liked the Mac OS X (around Mountain Lion) even better.

So now my daily driver is a MBA M2, and I am forced to use PCs as well. I miss the times when my cMP 5.1 just could do it all.

I'd really love if a single computer (a Mac!) could fulfill all my needs. Unfortunately, that ship has sailed and it seems unlikely that the situation is going to change anytime soon.

My point? While Apple's mobile devices (Tablets, Notebooks) seem hard to beat, its desktop product line isn't for anyone. Some may not like/prefer Windows (or Microsoft, for that matter) but have hardly any choice (Linux?).
Honestly, the direction Apple (HEDT) is heading really bugs me. I take issue that they force me to use Windows, but that is what they do (using Linux wherever possible). The new MP looks like a totally nonsense-ish product; I am not getting that thing at all. How is it different from the Trashcan? What happened to the "we listened" of 2019? Apple took a U-turn in 2019 after the Trashcan fiasco, just to make another one in 2023? wtf? Did they amend their "we listen" with "but we don't care"? What am I missing?

All thanks to Nadella. The beancounter in chief. All he is worried about is cloud, nothing else. Well...Cloud and business facebook. Consumers are nothing to them now.

I do get why they focused on Cloud, it was a place where they could win, and make big profits and that is what they did. Nadella is not all bad in my view. Under his watch he gave us WSL amongst other things and that itself was a big attraction to draw me back to Windows.

They listened and created the 2019 Mac Pro. I am now super fan but that machine was nice. Out powered by PCs as usual but it was an impressive machine. Much less so with A/S inside.

He should have been head of cloud procurement. They squandered so many things that could have been awesome if they thought about it right. But alas, here we are. Ha ha.

I have never been on the fence about Apple Macs. I have owned one consistently through the last 24 years. I have easily given Apple £100k in that time. My family are mostly Apple. I may choose to prioritise my PC over a Mac day to day at times or vice versa. That's back to choices.

Probably. He has been good for Microsoft but as most CEOs are, spread too thin. His focus is Cloud as that is what has turned around their fortunes but he is also good for Windows, just less focussed on it.

I made a post on another thread here just to say thanks to the people here who can have a mature discussion about both sides of the coin, I am mainly windows, and have been anti Mac for years since I got burned by them, and just could not get used to older Mac software. I am going to buy 2 MacBook airs for my wife and I. I am open to all sides of computing more now as I get older. I love the discussions on MR!

Oh yes, that is the point of the thread is it not? I’ll probably be back before I know it (to the Mac side of things)… ;) Enjoy your Airs…the 15 inch one is slightly tempting as that is a nice size.

I was looking at the 15 inch but it’s a bit to big for sitting on the couch in the mornings drinking coffee! Ha ha. I have been using my 10th Gen iPad all day and enjoying T/F out of it!

For me the 15" is just a bit on the big side. The 13" is the sweet spot. At home it would just be hooked up to a 32" monitor. The only reason I would need to use it as a laptop at home is to take it through and prove my wife wrong on something. But I have the 12.9" iPad for that now.

I am fortunate that my main uses are to manage remote servers and PHP coding. I can do both on a potato. My Mac Mini M2 is great though. Time will tell how happy I stay with the Mac Mini and iPad. I do keep checking the Refurb store for a Midnight M2 MBA though 😂

What about @LiE_ I wonder. He must be twitching by now.

There are things I really miss from My PC. I always used ASUS Republic Of Gaming motherboards. Not because I am a gamer but because of absolutely primo audio chipset in them. Full 7.1 on the last one. You needed to us outboard audio amps for each channel and a powered subwoofer but the sound you got was a force 5 hurricane. With this said My Yamaha AVR does all of that and so much more.
