And yet, Disney was able to do what the UV studios couldn't and bring all the big players on board with DMA.

Disney marches to their own drum - they are big enough and have all the influence. And I believe that DMA was an iTunes exclusive with it launched. All the other players were added later in the year. So I can imagine, the others joined because Apple was already there.

Emailed Flixter and when pressed they said this

"At this time, we do not have a set time frame as to when there will be a compatible app release on the Apple TV. We are currently working on enabling the service for Apple TV's and will send out a notification when it becomes available."

That's better than what I got out of Vudu. The claimed "Licensing" prevents them from making an app for ATV.

Which e-mail address did you use?

I've come across another issue with Flixster today :( Tried redeeming my Jurassic Park boxset and I can't redeem JP: The Lost World for some reason, they just don't support that one move. Annoying

This is the response I got from VUDU when asking if/when a VUDU app would come to ATV4:

"Hello,

Apple does not support Vudu via Apple TV or through Airplay. This would be something to contact them about, but i highly doubt it will happen because Apple likes to control their own content and they want you to buy movies via iTunes store.

Thank you for choosing Vudu!"

It's like they don't realize the ATV4 was released?! And that THEY can do an app now.

Why are these companies so clueless?

Actually, their contractual obligations to UV may prevent them from building one.

I haven't tried streaming on ATV4, but when I tried it on my previous Apple TV, it wouldn't let me stream from my iPad. It said I was only able to view on one screen at a time. Quite annoying actually.

I am assuming that this is a canned response from before the ATV4 was released. But even it that were the case, it is misleading. In the old ATV3 model, it would be a partnership between Apple and Vudu, not a unilateral
decision from Apple. Any they always had the opportunity to support AirPlay.
At this point in time with TVOS, Apple has nothing to do with it at all. Their licensing didn't prevent them from making an iOS app for iPhones, so I doubt that it would be a deal breaker for ATV4. If there is license issue, it is between them and the content owners, not Apple.

UV prevents VUDU from making an ATV app, but is okay with them having an app on PS4, Roku, Xbox, and pretty much every smart TV and blu-Ray player?

Those are devices, not ecosystem pushers. You seem to be forgetting how UV came to be in the first place. Apple.

PS4 has it's own Playstation Video movie store that is not UV. Movies can be played on PS4, sony TVs/phones/tablets. I'm pretty sure Microsoft's movie store also doesn't support UV. But VUDU has an app on both of those devices. How is Sonys/Microsofts digital video store any different than the iTunes video store?

Clearly you don't understand relevance. Further, neither pushes an ecosystem. Both have apps for other ecosystems. The uptake rate on both is about zero. Sony doesn't even push UV.

I'm tempted to get a Firestick for £35, and side load Flixster Movies on there (and Kodi) - at this point the ATV4 still isn't giving me any reason to upgrade for £130..

Fire tv stick has flixster in App Store and I can play my uv movies. It is s little slow loading all the movies but it works. We need a uv app on the new Apple tv

Yeah, I've been getting iTunes and DMA (to keep movies in the same place/device/UI), but I found out about the disc-to-digital service through Vudu (most UV partners offer something like this). If you convert 10 or more DVDs, they're only $2.50/each to go to 1080p HD couldn't pass that up, had a ton of outstanding movies on SD (DVD), and I've been wanting to clear out our older SD media. Pretty cool, setup your account, download the app, you stick the DVD in the drive, it reads some meta-data, confirms eligibility for the disc, then you can go HDX, or SD. FWIW, you can go HD (BD) to HDX/digital for $2/each. I also linked Vudu to UV.

Anyway, using the Vudu app on the PS3 downstairs, and Flixster (also linked to our UV locker) on an Amazon Firestick** in the bedroom, but I've love to have a totally unified experience, so I'm super hopeful one of the UltraViolet partners will build an app for the new ATV App Store, and that will [again] put all our media in one place.

** Neat find: our Sony TV remote without any additional config controls the Firestick (it's in an ARC HDMI port).

I have been doing disc to digital for a few years now. I started in Walmart stores and then started using the software from vudu. Cinemanow and flixster also have disc to digital software.
My uv library is much larger than iTunes/Dma so I would like all the apps to be on the same box.

I bit the bullet and bought a FireStick, installed the Flixster app ... and to my disappointment it doesn't play my movies in HD *sigh*. I then thought I'd try and side load the Flixster Video app, which worked like a charm via adbFire. Launched the app, and the remote doesn't work with it! So I tried the FireTV iOS app .. that at least allowed me to sign in, but annoyingly wouldn't let me select the movies, only the menus at the top.

So I'm basically using it for Kodi now, which is fine, just a bit disappointed that the legitimate reason I had for buying it was a bit of a bust

This whole thing is driving me crazy. It was working great when we got iTunes download codes. Now they are doing Ultraviolet instead. See back in the day people started ripping DVDs because it was the only way to get movies on your Archos. Looks like that'll be the thing to do again.

We need to make enough noise to get Apple to join UV....the rest would follow....codes would work wherever we wanted them too and, our movies wouldn't be stuck in itunes only anymore.
