15 years ago there was a lot of speculation that the "clamshell" laptop design would lose the keyboard/trackpad in favor of a touch screen. "Imagine the screen real estate!" But very few people want that. People want a physical keyboard enough to pay $250 to put one on an iPad.
This laptops exist but people don’t buy them because its a gimmick and its doesn’t make sense. You can replace the buttons on phone with a screen because its just a keyboard for texting and searching and you don’t need a full keyboard all the time to take over a small screen but you can’t replace real buttons for something you need for professional work and something that has a standardized keyboard for decades (phones in 2007 didn’t had that). Same thing will happen to folds. The slap glass phone is the standard and most optimal design for a phone.

Warning to all of the early adopter types. You guys start pulling out $2400 iPhones and several of you may get shot and killed.

This price point would be a horrible idea for anyone living in a large urban area and on public transit, it's a wrap.

Think twice about this and about your safety. Sure this sounds cool and I know a bunch of us can afford it, but there will be consequences if you don't travel with a driver or security.

Apple's foldable iPhone could be priced at $2,399, according to an estimate shared by analyst Arthur Liao at Fubon Research. There have been a range of price estimates, from as low as $1,800 to as high as $2,500, and the latest estimate falls on the higher side.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously said he expects the iPhone Fold to cost between $2,000 and $2,500, and Bloomberg's Mark Gurman expects it to be somewhere around $2,000.

The foldable iPhone will be expensive because of the premium components that Apple plans to use. The display panel and hinge will push pricing toward the upper end of market expectations, Fubon Research suggests.

Demand for the device will depend on the price that Apple sets, but Fubon believes that Apple could sell around 5.4 million units in 2026. Global smartphone demand could fall during the year, and foldables will be the "only spotlight" in the 2026 smartphone market.

The report says that Apple is also working on camera upgrades for 2026, with the first variable aperture lens planned for the iPhone 18 Pro models. It doesn't sound like the iPhone Fold will get the variable aperture lens that Apple is developing, but rumors indicate it will have a dual-lens rear camera setup with Wide and Ultra Wide lenses along with two front cameras.

It will be sold out and sell well. It worth of the price. It will be the new iPhone style. And it is an Apple product! The quality will be the best in the folding phone market. I am so looking forward to it. It has been felt ten thousand years of waiting already.
I wish it will be released sooner.

You must be from London

I won't spend that much on a phone unless I can hook it up to a keyboard, mouse and monitor and use it as computer.
Well I have good news for you. You can do all that.

Sorry, I should have been clearer as I have been in other posts. By using the iPhone as a computer, I mean with iPad OS 26 window multitasking and full screen display. The iPhone connected to a monitor still maintains the original aspect ratio much like the iPad once did and the UI isn't really set up for this type of use.

Oh, for the love of all that is holy.... WTF? You can get a decked-out MacBook Pro for that money. AND I learned a LONG time ago, NEVER be a first adopter. NEVER.
I had the first generation of both iPod and iPhone, and each in its own time was the coolest device I’d ever used.

Apple is gonna lose on customers so hard with this one. They need a new marketing study to find out that majority only needs boring slab with a camera to scroll Instagram and TikTok. They have invested all the money into toys for geeks🫠 First it is AVP, then unsuccessful Apple Car project, now a folding phone that costs like a 15 year old used car… What are they thinking?

IF this is true, then this supports my assertions that Cupertino has lost the plot. This isn't the device and price point they should be working on. Most people are struggling just to put gas in their cars and food on their plates. This isn't an exaggeration.

The difference between those legacy devices and a foldable is that the legacy devices actually solved real world problems and reduced friction on consumer use cases. There's not one problem I can think of that a foldable phone at $2500/unit solves.

People having fits on here, but do they know people pay $200,000 for a car, many more than that. And they buy houses worth 3 to 10 million dollars? And they think Apple should be looking to make really cheap highly advanced products? Have any of you bought a lawnmower? Or a decent stove?

I hope a lot a beta testers will spend $2,500 + for the prototypes. Plus "budget" accessories such as foldable socks.

After a few years, it will be a good and more affordable product.
After 5 years, it will be just another boring phone.
