It will be another Vision Pro, extremely expensive and after a couple of months after launch Apple will be ordering the reduction in manufacturing numbers for the device, because of it's pricing.
Somehow I found out that vision pro was downloaded to my phone under iphone settings after I updated from ios 18 to 26. I dont even have the app. No clue how it got there, cant remove it either.

Gurman is a tool. Where was this "prediction" before he saw the iPhone Air? Oh, it wasn't a thing. Now that he sees the air, he can make up whatever the hell prediction he wants to keep feeding the click bait articles. It's like saying tomorrow, water will be wet!
Gurman hasnt been accurate the last 6 months. He lies while he breathes it seems. Dont believe anything that he says

Stop quoting Gurman, he brings nothing new. We’ve mentioned this many times over the past week on these forums.

It’s very obvious the Air is preceding the Fold with its design. The fold will be two airs and the new premium product. That’s why the air has the premium titanium material with the polished finish reserved for the premium iPhones.
The Pro is relegated as a sturdy bulky do all pocket computer for geeks.
Why? Because the fold will be the most expensive in the lineup.
Hes not accurate anymore. Hes been spreading misinformation the last 6 months. Dont believe what he says

expected to come with a premium price tag of at least $2,000.
Makes sense. Two $1000 iPhone Airs = $2000. Unfortunately it's still a bit out of my budget unless I can completely replace my iPad Pro with it as well (including external display support) - then I’d just upgrade that and my iPhone at the same time. I'd still feel a bit uneasy carrying around such an expensive device everywhere I go though.

It’s amazing to me how so many Apple fanboys suddenly have a crystal ball and already know exactly how this foldable will play out. Not every product is designed for the masses. Some are meant to push the limits of innovation and showcase what a company is capable of. Could it stay niche? Sure. Could it break mainstream? Absolutely.

But why wouldn’t we want a company taking big swings even if a few miss? That’s how progress happens. Personally, I’m excited to see it and I’ll most likely buy one. The level of pessimism around it is honestly more astonishing than the product itself.

Foldables really are unwieldy and awful to use. I’ve never understood the appeal, especially when you add in the plastic screen (that feels horrible) and the atrocious crease. I’m still glad Apple is going to release one for those who want it and to stay competitive, and I trust that they’ll do at least as good a job of it as Samsung and Oppo.
Tell us you've never owned a foldable, without telling us you've never owned a foldable. Most of what you've mentioned is untrue. My Z Fold 7 is lighter than the iPhone 17 PM and it is only a fraction of one millimeter thicker. How is this unwieldy? It also doesn't have a plastic screen. The inner screen is made of ultra-thin glass and they put a screen protector over it, which I remove as soon as I get a new foldable. The "atrocious crease" isn't a concern at all. If it were, zero people would buy foldables instead of tens of millions of people.

These products are apples bane of existence. Too late, because the competition puts out inferior versions way earlier (which is against apples values of design). Or too early, because the want to do exactly that and dont have the market for it (which is against apple users values of design). They entered this spiral of doom with the Siri/AI Stuff and are now stuck until another Steve Jobs comes along, and helps this company to FOCUS, and maybe one day pulls a thin foldable fabric out of his jeans pocket that is a touch display with an integrated computer that changes everything.

The Samsung Flip is just as popular as the Samsung Fold.
The Flip was more popular until the Z Fold 7 was released. Now that they have the hardware where it needs to be on the ZF7, the Flip has taken a backseat in sales, in certain markets anyway.

Ha 2k for a foldable. Don’t they all have huge durability issues?
I bet the apple care will be 2x the price. Well from Apples standpoint it will increase the upgrade cycle of they don’t last long.

Or maybe I’ve extensively used both the Fold 7 and the Oppo Find, and can’t stand the screens or crease on either of them. Maybe don’t rush to judge someone else’s experience. Great that you like them, I quite frankly don’t and my experience stands irrespective of your own.

I just hope it doesn’t cannibalize the iPad mini. That’s been my fav iPad to use to date.

I don’t think I want an iPhone + iPad in one device. I am 100% certain I won’t spend $2k+ for one (I’m guessing closer to $2,299). I’m also 100% they will make me want one. It’s what they do best. 🤪

It certainly will be. Even the Galaxy Fold 7 starts at 2,200€ here now and it's the 7th generation

It entirely depends on that screen and fold. I suspect the reason they have not even touched this so far is even the 7th Gen Galaxy fold and the other have horrible visible crease points and other issues. Perhaps Apple have solved that now?

Personally I think these things are all stupid and just a physical failure point.

If you did own them, you would know that the screen isn't made of plastic. Or you certainly should know this being that you're dropping upwards of $2,000 on a phone. You also wouldn't think they were unwieldy, unless you are the type of person who likes smaller phones like the iPhone Mini, etc. Which, if that were the case, it wouldn't make sense to be buying those foldables to begin with. How does the crease bother you? You can barely feel it on those phones, and I've owned both the ZF7 and the Find N5, and you can't hardly ever see it unless you have lights over your head constantly or you're outdoors constantly.

Don't want to say I've been saying this, but I've been saying this.

The iPhone Air is a proof of concept to merge two Air's together for the foldable iPhone.

I suspect the removal of Face ID is an indicator the two sides will be thinner than the Air. How much thinner who knows, but with two sides to play with they’ll have more wriggle room for the battery.
Exactly. It will be thinner than the Air, because they can spread the battery out differently.

Sales numbers are still similar between the Flip and Fold. I believe the 7 series is the first time the Fold sold more than the Flip, but they’re in the same ballpark with the Fold pulling a bit ahead.

I never stated that I’ve owned them, I said I’ve had extensive experience using them since my sister in law has the Fold 7 and a good friend has the Oppo. When I say unwieldily I’m meaning using it unfolded - I don’t like that experience at all for a phone. (Yes I get that it’s essentially transforming into a tablet but I don’t find it comfortable to use as a phone). The crease really does bother me, it’s not so much seeing it (and those latest devices are much improved over the earlier models), it’s feeling it. I can’t not notice it! I’m not against foldables and as I said in my initial post I’m glad Apple is finally getting into the game for those that want one. It’s just not for me. I’m glad you like that form factor as does my friend (sister in law not so much), but I’ll stick with the candybar form factor for phones.

Edit: on your point re plastic, fair call out, I didn’t realise they were glass as to me they feel like plastic, they don’t feel like glass.

and why make a fold but not a mini? surly there are more people who would buy a mini than a fold.
No there aren't. Apple stopped making the mini for a reason.... nobody was buying it. The online "we want smaller screens" crowd is just really loud and will complain about bigger screens every chance they get, that's why it appears that there is a demand.... But in reality there aren't that many people who still want mini screens

They are. Well to me anyways. I don’t want to unfold a phone to get an enormous display.

By the measurements, it sounds more like two iPhone minis than two iPhone Airs.

The real downside of this device is that iOS 27 will be all about making iOS more like iPadOS so it can do something with this folding screen besides make apps bigger. Great for those that want to buy an expensive folding phone, but that means few new features for everyone else. That will be 3 OS revisions in a row that don't really offer anything worth caring about to 95% of users. Maybe by iOS 28 we can finally start to fix things that have been broken or neglected since iOS 14?
