Looking at that mockup, the one thing that would tempt me to get a foldable is if the entire bottom half could be a keyboard and run more powerful apps, and while docked, it would run full MacOS. Imagine the Mac market share if an iPhone ran full macOS when docked? Likewise, the iPad Pro should run full macOS when docked. Apple is not fully leveraging its unique Mac asset.
Not sure is that would work. An MacOS would likely bring the iPhone’s processor to its knees, making for a less than optimal solution. Since you’d need a dock and monitor, traveling would not be ideal either. The iPad would be a much more likely candidate, but if it the total revenue is less due to canabalization of Mac sales and not made up by much higher iPad sales, it would be a bad idea from a revenue standpoint.

5.5” outer display? Hmmmm… sounds like a hellava high price to replace my iPhone 13 mini.
But, if it’s the only way to get a replacement……

I'm just unconvinced this will be anything close to a replacement for our 13 Minis

Sounds thick, heavy, expensive, perhaps more fragile ... just "too much" of everything

I really wish we had Apple product leadership that could understand the benefits of a wide range of sizes/shapes/usage preferences and have devices to match.

The true "diversity" in the iPhone lineup is just about non existent.

Oh the irony if people prefer using the phone folded closed and say that the 5.5" is just fine for them.
At that aspect ratio 5.5” is wider closed than even the 6.9” Pro Max screen though:

You’ll have to use it two-handed even when closed. It will also be similarly heavy as a Pro Max.

Meanwhile... It's still 2025. I'll decide if I'll get a foldable iPhone once they come out in the rumored future. I'm guessing 2028 as these rumors seem to endlessly slide.

Apple TV and HomePad on the other hand... Bring them on in 2025.

This possible foldable will NOT be on my "got to have" list for several years until it appears to be more than a one time device like the expensive googles. I am very pleased with my iPhone 16 Pro Max 1TB and hope this form factor continues with the usual annual CPU and internal memory upgrades. And the center crease (if it is all one screen) could be a "useful life" time limit (open and close cycle count). No such restriction exists on all the prior and current iPhone displays.

Since a foldable will have two screens, the weight and thickness of the device may require a special carry case and would said case go on a belt or need a shoulder strap? Most pockets would not be adequate except on cargo style pants. Holding it up to the ear for a long call could be a challenge for older folks. Obviously, if the device is opened, then the speaker will create sound others can hear so no privacy in the communication.

I have both an iPad mini v7 and an M4 iPad Pro 11", both with maximum memory. I can privately converse on my iPhone and manipulate either iPad during a phone call discussing what I see on the screen of the iPad.

With the foldable iPhone or whatever it will be called is open, battery power is now running twice the screen area, This could imply twice (or more) capacity would be needed for the battery which adds weight.

I remember the "brick" portable phones of the 60s. That "name" reflected both the size and the weight of the device.

Overly expensive gimmick.

It’ll be awesome like Vision Pro. A few people will actually buy it. I’m sure it’ll be technically superior and all.

But it won’t sell in large numbers.

So it replaces a standard iphone and an ipad mini.. Samsung and other makes have tried to make these a thing since 2019, they all have massive compromises, durability issues, and cost substantially more

I don't even actually want those two things combined into one.

It's very often handy to have them both on hand, specializing in their respective roles and best use cases.

The thing I would want, they of course aren't making ... an iPhone Flip
I want something that is normal iPhone size when unfolded and then way smaller in hand/pocket when folded up.
