So it replaces a standard iphone and an ipad mini.. Samsung and other makes have tried to make these a thing since 2019, they all have massive compromises, durability issues, and cost substantially more

They really don’t side from cost , Durability is no more at risk as any other phone if you take care of them.

Foldables are a thing and sell well enough for brands to release them every year. They don’t replace slab phones but certainly is a market for them.

When Apple comes to market will certainly boost sales

I've been an Apple customer since 1986. (512K Fat Mac!). I'll be skipping this one. Just an opinion, but I'd guess there's going to be a lot of them gathering dust at a distribution point next to unsold VisionPro headsets. Apple's pricing should be based on potential demand, not a fixed margin.

If it's as good as a pixel fold, I'm interested, could combine iPhone and iPad mini, though I expect it'll cost as much as both. would be happy to have one fewer device.

I’m quite intrigued by the iPhone Fold, but something I’m concerned about based on the rumour is that there will be camera trade offs (front and back). I suspect I’ll go with the phone with the better camera at the end of the day, which may well mean I end up with the Pro Max even though I’d ordinarily want the fold (if everything else were equal).

It will be better than anything else today, but no better than what will be available with other brands by then.

Saying that the foldable phone will have a "nearly invisible" crease is just a marketing way of saying that it will have a visible crease. At the price Apple will feel it has to charge for the new foldable, I suspect it will face some unrealistic expectations that it will fail to meet.

Ugh, I don't know why I'm doing this. A mock-up of a keyboard with the most recent rumoured screen dimensions:

any prediction on the pricing? I am guessing ballpark $3500; will definitely buy one just not sure should I wait until 2nd gen.

The Oppo Find N5 is the gold standard of foldable phones right now. I carry it as a companion device to my iPhone 16 PM. Best of both worlds.

I literally can't express how much I would kill for iOS to be running on the Oppo Find N5 hardware. If you aren't familiar with the Oppo, watch a YouTube video. Its a game changer.
