It will probably run iOS when folded, and iPadOS when unfolded.

Dream on...
Since iOS isn't formatted for wider screens it's bound to get iPadOS features like split screen (or stage manager if the rumors about stage manager being on iPhones is true), responsive iPad apps, and the dock on the internal screen. It doesn't make sense to run two OSes so maybe this will begin the process of merging both into a single responsive OS.

But really, knowing Apple they will complicate things by creating FoldOS as yet another Operating System. LOL

Solving a problem that doesn't exist, what's the point of this?
Some things are better on a larger screen you can carry in your pocket.

Whether or not you want one, or think its worth the price and durability concerns, it's strange that people don't understand the benefits of a foldable.

any prediction on the pricing? I am guessing ballpark $3500; will definitely buy one just not sure should I wait until 2nd gen.
No way... Most seem to be predicting roughly double the cost of an iPhone, not Vision Pro prices. Oh, hang on, you mean with the Trump Tariffs? Yes, that's about right then.

I'm undecided on this, but the "two key advantages" aren't enough to justify the exorbitant price Apple will be charging.
Many buyers around the world have different needs and different finances than yours and mine. So whether or not "the price Apple will be charging" is "exorbitant" or not is determined individually by each buyer.

Who is asking for this?
Nobody, I'm sure you're right... Apple must just be doing it for fun in the hope they can maybe give a few of them away or use them as door stops or to stick under the legs of wobbly bar tables? There they are, investing all of that time and money into something nobody wants, and they didn't even think to research if a market for them exists. What muppets! Well, you should let them know that nobody's asking for this before it's too late.

Not sure is that would work. An MacOS would likely bring the iPhone’s processor to its knees, making for a less than optimal solution. Since you’d need a dock and monitor, traveling would not be ideal either. The iPad would be a much more likely candidate, but if it the total revenue is less due to canabalization of Mac sales and not made up by much higher iPad sales, it would be a bad idea from a revenue standpoint.
Fear of cannibalization is never an issue. Folks who think that way do not last long in tech. The reason being that if a market opportunity to supersede one of one's products exists, it is better to cannibalize your own product rather than have a competitor do it for you.

Nearly seen crease will require Apple Vision Pro...as they will use AR to remove it...

...I think Tim Cook just salivated.

I'm just unconvinced this will be anything close to a replacement for our 13 Minis

Sounds thick, heavy, expensive, perhaps more fragile ... just "too much" of everything

I really wish we had Apple product leadership that could understand the benefits of a wide range of sizes/shapes/usage preferences and have devices to match.

The true "diversity" in the iPhone lineup is just about non existent.
Correct. A foldable iPhone be nothing close to a replacement for your 13 Minis. Entirely different bunch of users.

This. IMO support for the Apple Pencil is what such a foldable needs to be really successful.
I wonder if it will be the regular Pencil or the Pencil Pro. If it's the latter, it could magnetically charge/pairon the hinge side. I wonder if the power button will move back to the old top location.

I’m quite intrigued by the iPhone Fold, but something I’m concerned about based on the rumour is that there will be camera trade offs (front and back). I suspect I’ll go with the phone with the better camera at the end of the day, which may well mean I end up with the Pro Max even though I’d ordinarily want the fold (if everything else were equal).
Wow, you posted my thoughts exactly. I would buy a foldable in a heartbeat, but not if I have to sacrifice back camera competence.

Edit: For me a foldable must be capable of using the Apple Pencil when open. The foldable need not carry or charge the Apple Pencil, but an Apple Pencil needs to be able to write on it with all pencil features enabled.

No being able to see the crease sounds like a minimum standard for a folding phone to me. I wouldn't even consider one with a visible crease. That's why I think the current ones on the market are a joke.
You "think the current ones on the market are a joke." But like you said, there is a market. So there are lots of folks that are willing to accept a smallish crease. How large that market becomes as smallish crease becomes smaller will be interesting to observe.

unlikely. screen will probably still be plastic and that means Pencil support increases likelihood of scratching the plastic screen.
?? Since when do modern Apple devices have an issue with screens being scratched, let alone by Apple Pencils made by Apple specifically not to scratch Apple displays?

I want this, though I’ll prob wait for gen 2, never buy a first gen apple product, right?

/though maybe I’ll be tempted enough to get the first gen…

I think what was suggested is that the iPhonebook wont have a glass screen and therefore the Apple Pencil will scratch it.

Personally I would like to see the crease act as a border so the crease can separate Display 1 and Display 2 as separate desktops... or at least have that as an option.

And I am saying that is illogical. A) because modern Apple displays do not generally have scratch issues and B) because Apple would never build a display intended for Apple Pencil use that would be easily scratched by said Apple Pencil usage.

Press briefing “on background” to downgrade “invisible crease” to “better than the other guys, probably!”

Love it. 🙄
