Foldable iPhone Ultra Battery Capacity Allegedly Registered by Supplier

Apple's battery supplier has registered two new battery cells believed to be destined for the company's rumored foldable iPhone, according to a prolific Chinese leaker.

In a post on Weibo, the leaker known as Digital Chat Station said that the two cells have rated capacities of 1,921mAh and 2,962mAh, for a combined minimum rated capacity of 4,883mAh. "The supply chain is also predicting a total battery capacity of 4,800–5,000mAh, though this still needs further confirmation," the leaker added.

If accurate, the dual-cell design would be in line with existing book-style foldable smartphones, which typically split the battery across the device's two halves. In terms of where it sits next to rival foldables already on the market, the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold has a total battery capacity of 5,015 mAh, while the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 has a 4,400 mAh capacity. For comparison's sake, the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are believed to come with 4,288mAh and 5,567mAh batteries, respectively.

The leaker's claim appears to conflict with an early rumor suggesting Apple was testing a significantly larger 5,400mAh to 5,800mAh battery for its first foldable iPhone. That report described an engineering test configuration, however, so it's possible Apple has since revised the design. Either that or the rumor was incorrect.

A March 2025 rumor claimed that Apple has placed a heavy focus on improving power efficiency while slimming down key components of its foldable iPhone, with battery life said to be a key priority for the company. Separately, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has said the device will use high-density battery cells.

Apple's foldable iPhone is rumored to feature a 7.8-inch inner display and a 5.5-inch cover display, along with Touch ID instead of Face ID, an A20 chip, and Apple's C2 modem in some countries. The device is expected to be unveiled alongside the iPhone 18 Pro models in September. Apple's book-style foldable could launch as the "iPhone Ultra," as suggested by reports. IDC has predicted that the foldable will carry an average selling price of $2,500, with storage options potentially priced as high as $3,000.

Wtf? Why cheap out and waste the space on one half only being 1,900. My current Foldable has a 6,000 battery and my current regular phone a 7,000 battery

My prediction is the iPhone Fold will sell 10X LESS than the iPhone Air. Due to Price and being very awkward in many different ways. The iPhone 18 Pro Max will be a total beast of awesomeness even if it costs a bit more than last year’s.

The total negativity on this site around the iPhone fold is unreal. I bet people will still go out and bit one. Most people have their phones on contracts anyway.

I for one will be willing to buy if the durability and battery life are great. Don’t forget IOS holds a lot of weight with people, the OS and its potential book design (that a lot of companies are now also doing) could make this a great device.

But of course “Apple are doomed” and “It will flop” are the common posts on this site currently.

The iPhone Fold is simply the BEST sized iPad at the wrong price. So kinda like a pocketable tablet more than a regular smartphone.

I don't think that's remotely true for incumbent iPad Pro customers that are creative professionals in addition to other prosumers.

It more eats into the niche that the iPad Mini accommodated

One side has to house two screens and therefore has less space for the battery.

I’m sure the hinge mechanism on these phones has improved over the years, but it’s still a moving part that can wear over time, collect dust, or stop opening fully.


The bigger issue for me is the folding screen, which is more prone to cracks and other failures than a regular phone.


Too many potential failure points for me, I’ll pass.

I don't think Apple intended for it to be a mainstream product in sales making its role and sales target not really sensible to compare it to the Air.

It's going to be their most expensive phone for a very specialized (niche) segment of their overall phone business. It would be eccentric and would be an abnormal success for it to sell anywhere close to the FAR cheaper and less versatile iPhones.

It's their most luxurious phone offering during an economic downturn after all The components won't be able to scale in availability like the other phones as well

It would be like Porsche expecting the Taycan to outsell the Macan.

Is that the same as “less than a tenth of”? In any case, the current foldables market share is 2-3% of the overall smartphone market, so that’s roughly the expectation I would have, which is at least half of the Air’s market share among iPhones.

“Prolific” is by far my favorite adjective that’s used for leakers when reposting rumors like this. It’s an amusing way to acknowledge they might be full of s***, but damnit they’re consistent and voluminous in pumping out that information.

The crease on the Oppo Find N6 I would be happy with if the iPhone matched.

I’m optimistic now that foldables are starting to come out with IP68 and IP69 ratings that dust shouldn’t be an issue with hinges in future

I’m with you. Would prefer smaller than current Pro. After years of using Pro Max models I’ve come to realize I miss phones that actually fit comfortably in a pocket.

I still have an old 6 lying around and I picked it recently. Really made me miss that size. I rarely consume any media on the phone because I just don’t like the experience so a smaller screen is fine. I realize some do consume media so by all means, keep making the larger phones, I just wish small was an option.
