I’m currently using an iPhone 17 PM and iPad mini 6 (Pencil 2). That iPad has easily been my most favorite, most used iPad to date - and I’ve owned several dating back to the OG. It’s so perfectly portable and capable. And Pencil is an absolute must for any iPad owner.

While I like the concept of a foldable, I’m not quite sure I would go with that as my daily driver. I’m most interested in its folded state - phone mode. And for the rumored price points - knowing I’d not go with entry-level storage - it feels like a rough sell. For me. But interested to see what Apple has up its sleeve.

Imagine if this could be dockable and used with MacOS.

The MacBook Neo has shown us how capable mobile processor chips can be.
 
Hopefully the battery life will be good. With the new chip and software optimization, expecting a good enough screen on time.

How far away from that are you now? I'm hoping to see a once-every-5(ish)-year jump in battery life for this year's 18 Pro/Pro-Max vs the current models. A lot of stars seem to be aligning to make that a possibility ...

1 - Bigger batteries.

2 - More efficient CPU due to 2nm geometry shrink, architecture improvements (I assume) and better cooling (which should reduce leakage current).

3 - If you're outside of the USA then the rumoured C2 modem might well be more efficient than the current Qualcomm ones if C1 & C1X performance is anything to go by.

4 - Possibly a more efficient screen if the rumour about going from the current LPTO to the more efficient LTPO+ is true.

5 - OS 27's focus on performance and stability probably means some worthwhile optimisations in terms of code paths - for MacOS at least some of Apple's claims at WWDC26 were impressive - and that should also help battery life.

I'm hoping for a minimum 15% overall battery life improvement this year and wouldn't be that surprised if it was more like a 30% improvement vs current models.

Have you tried any other foldable or will with be your first one? I haven't owned one before, so the iPhone Ultra may be my first one.

I also don't think Apple would be greeting into this market if they aren't doing something different, OR haven't solved the issues that surround foldables, namely battery life, durability, including the crease. I'm looking forward to the event, so much so that I will be clearing my work schedule for the day (when we actually find out the event date).

i've had tons. tend to try plenty each year. been using foldables for about 6 years and none have had any issues

Until we move on from lithium ion, "slimming down" and "prioritising battery life" will never marry. The king of battery life will always be the device with the biggest battery.

My 17 easily lasts a day and a half. Two if I'm not as busy on it.

TouchID... no way!

That suddenly changes everything if it comes to pass!

Maybe it will have on (under) screen TouchID.
 
TouchID, mid-range camera situation (at best) and questionable battery life, all for a VERY high price, will be among the reasons I think this v1 device could have questionable success.

Alternate name could be:

iPhone Vision Pro Air
 
The hardest part will be choosing a phone with so many options! Do I get the iPad mini phone for watching shows/playing games on a big screen, the Air for its wonderfully thin and light experience, or the pro so I have the best camera/s?

I see where you're coming from, and couldn't they increase that with the new battery tech they haven't used yet? Slicon Carbon...takes up less space for more mAh.
 
You know what, I’ll just stick to a boring old slab. Enough bigger screens in my life when I need them.
 
iPhone Ultra will be a flop like the Apple Vision Pro because it is 10 years late to the competition and too expensive just like Vision Pro was.

I’m glad a lot of people are having that reaction to it. It means I should be able to preorder and get mine early. All the complainers will be ordering after they see how awesome it is in hand.
