Based on the size rumor, this upcoming iFold is perfect for those who loves having iPhone mini and iPad mini in one pocketable device as long as not requiring telephoto and Face ID.
I don't have telephoto yet to know what I'm missing, and I prefer touchId to FaceId. I'll start saving my tithe to Apple now!

Except it will almost certainly be thicker and definitely heavier than a Mini.
Of course it will be. The air is thicker and heavier than a mini.

The rumor indicates the iFold size is perfect to be iPhone mini when folded and to be iPad mini when unfolded. This device is so perfect in size for those who love both. The best one will be both devices now in one pocketable device.

I have both, but I do not want to always be carrying them both (in one device).

I don't use them like that.

Having my iPhone Mini & iPad Mini be discrete devices is a huge positive for me.

Somewhat it is the return of the iPhone mini with extra iPad mini when unfolded. It is such a perfect two “mini” devices in one.

It'll cost more than the iPhone Mini + iPad mini, so naa. It's also going to weigh quite a bit more than a 13 Mini, which is 141g.

Finally, there isn't a phone in the world, Apple or otherwise, that is worth north of $2000.

The mini is 5.4".

Am I reading this right? A premium phone, with high end internals, and even smaller than the mini? Please count me in!
No, not quite.
5.4 is just one measurement, it says nothing about the aspect ratio.
Assuming the rumors stick and the inside display is close to a 4 X 3 aspect ratio, the outside 5.3 inch display will be very wide and short, while the Mini display was more tall and narrow.
So…not really the same at all.

7.7 inches. Time to say so long to the iPad mini.
I’m looking forward to the foldable iPhone, but it won’t be an iPad replacement for most of us. First of all, because of aspect ratio, which will be necessarily weird either on folded mode or on unfolded mode.

Buzzer sound.
Heavier, not thicker.
7.7 MM thick on the Mini, 5.6 MM on the Air.
To nitpick, the iPhone Air is actually over 11 mm thick at its thickest.

It’s not a “mini” phone in size. What distinguishes the iPhone mini is its ability to be used one-handed, due to its limited width and weight. The foldable iPhone won’t have these properties.

My 17PM was 1099, my 13 iPad Air 849, so combined 1949. If I assume for now that the fold might start at 1999, in my case it's pretty much a wash, and I'd prefer a single device over 2 separate ones, for me that is.
But if it were a "simple/single" phone, yes, 2k is way too much.
But of course we all have different need and use cases
