Just ordered mine. I ordered a navy one, which is the closest to the lila Fold 8. You got a black one, right? I wonder when will it reach me here in Germany and how much will I have to pay in taxes and extra fees 💀

So, this is stopping me a little bit from buying a foldable. I also have a MacBook Neo, so a foldable doesn't seem too necessary in my ecosystem, although I would enjoy it a lot, obviously, but I don't want to have a 1.000€ tablet laying around the house not being used.

I find that foldables are real nice to have when you want to replace the use of a tablet + phone in a given environment. In reference to the iPhone Ultra, I plan on using it to replace the need for my iPad Mini, iPad Pro, and iPhone at home. This will give more battery life over time due to less charge cycles needed between devices from the split use.

Out of curiosity, how many of you guys that already own a foldable or are buying the new Samsung Folds or iPhone Fold in September have a tablet?

I've got an iPad Pro 11 M4 which I'm very happy with and use it often during the week. I've always wanted a foldable and really like the new Fold 8, but I fear that if I buy one I would obviously start using less and less the iPad Pro, wether it be at home or on the rare occasion I take it outside.

It's a really expensive tablet and I don't plan on selling it, specially now that prices have gone up a lot.

That's exactly what happened to me. I ditched my M1 12.9" iPad Pro shortly after getting the Fold4. There was just no point to reach for the heavy iPad Pro. To be fair, I didn't use the iPad Pro all that much and preferred my MBP. A foldable was a better complement to my MBP.

Same. Had a MacBook Air (thats become my desktop "PC" now, and had an iPad 12 inch and an iPhone, ditched whole lot for a Huawei Mate XT and Huawei's amazing keyboard/mouse combo for total work on the move.

Will get the Fold 8 for when I dont want to carry that all around and do some "lighter work on the go".

I will be buying the iPhone version. Been waiting for it for a long time. Trying not to buy the Fold 8 though, but I want to.

I dropped my Pixel 7a and busted the screen back in May. Poking around, one of the best deals in phones at the time was the Razr Ultra 60.

While I stopped buying premium phones years ago when the prices pushed to and over $1k, the Snapdragon 8, 12G memory, and 512G storage was attractive, if overkill. Extreme overkill, really.

I was not particularly attracted to folding phones (I did have a Palm Pre -- alternative configuration -- that I enjoyed and worked well), but I tend to desire smaller phones. The small iphones are always tempting when replacement time rolls around.

I have been quite pleased with it so far. It works well, the front screen is quite handy for dealing with texts and even emails and calls when closed. The Moto software suite is nice, if currently littered with to me useless AI stuff. As a premium phone it gets updates faster than their lower models, but I don't really care about that anymore.

It does trade "planform" size (nice!) for thickness and "density," which is a tradeoff, for sure. You do get a "tall" screen when open that's not bad. YMMV.

You can slightly see and feel the hinge in the screen, usually by looking at it from the side. It doesn't hinder operation at all, or bother me (and I can be OCD that way sometimes).

I put a case on it that includes hinge protection that I thought might make it annoyingly thicker. It doesn't really, provided you're initially happy with the planform size reduction tradeoff with thickness and density. The hinge cover works as a "handle," not unlike one of those "pop socket" things that helps you keep a grip on the thing.

One other addendum about folders. The nature of the screens is that they're some kind of relatively soft polymer, without Gorilla Glass or similar. The tactile feel is actually rather nice to me. I think it is more vulnerable to damage if not cracks and I wonder when the permanent swipe "fingerprint" will show up.

It appears that Samsung actually implemented the ability to allow for more columns on the cover (outer) display… so, that’s good news! Well…. the realization is starting to set in that this week it won’t be delivered, either Samsung has decided to be like Apple and hold packages OR the phones are still in their base of origin.

I’m leaning on the former because normally… once it’s in a prepared-for-shipment state (with a tracking number), following day it gets shipped. I would completely understand, if it went to prepared state on the 3th or 4th.. then get shipped out. But why go into that early and wait this long to ship, never seen anything like this…

It’s been awhile since I did iPhone pre-orders.. but if I’m not mistaken, they give you a tracking number showing that it’s coming from China or wherever allowing you to track it along the way. I recall they went so deep into the follow that people were able find the plane as well.

Android has always had the ability to allow for customization of home screens (number of columns, etc.) through launcher apps like Nova. 😎

But this was in response to a YT video posted in this thread... which made it seem that HomeUp didn't allow us to tweak the amount of column apps on the HomeScreen. I was just showing that it's made available.

And I'm not planning on using any 3rd party launchers... given that Samsung blocks the use of the taskbar with them.

Just a pro tip. From several months of using the Razr, I'm not sure you're going to care too much about the front screen layout, particularly as concerns "full screen" apps.

Moto has a couple of front screen widgets that are pretty decent for weather and such and interacting with notifications (texts, quick email replies) works well. As do a few other things, kind of depending on what you use and your preferences. For example, I have a weather radar (Rainy Days) that's nothing but radar and that's usable. I have the google app to rip off a quick voice search if I need to and that app is usable on the front screen for reading. This despite not using chrome or google search as a daily driver.

One that actually is quite useful is a hiking/biking GPS where I mostly need to start/stop/pause navigation and my route. It is full screen but opens enough that I can easily start and stop a route, which is all I really need much of the time.

But it is limited and there reaches a point sooner than later that you must or should open the clamshell. The Razr holds 12 and that seems like plenty. 49 or even half that seems absurd. Capability without utility.

I have put a bunch on and off that 12 and am now down to six. The rest found themselves either unused or unusable on the smaller screen.

I realize that the Fold folds along a different axis and that may change the game a bit for using full screen apps and more of them, even so.
