The eagle has landed!

During checkout I initially selected "no signature required" because I planned to be home, but then plans changed and I had to leave the house and didn't get back till just a moment ago. Fortunately the TriFold only spent 10 minutes on the porch. Our porch is semi enclosed so a lot of times you can't tell we have a delivery, but I've read of many other package thefts around the surrounding neighborhoods. Anyways, Samsung sure packaged the TriFold securely, wrapping about 10 feet of tissue and paper for protection.

I have to leave soon to pickup our daughter from school and will have to come back later to set this sucker up. I still don't see the point in the box being so oversized.

TriFold supposedly still arriving today. It is on the UPS truck now but delivery window shifted later several hours to between 1pm-4pm PST.
Lately deliveries have been affected in some parts of the US due to weather. There is a banner add across the shipping tracking site saying so.

Maybe too early to say, but I don't anticipate needing to use the 45W charger. I have car chargers for daytime use, if needed, then I like to plug all of my past phones into an old 5W/1A plug for slow gentle overnight charging. I started doing this after major battery degradation on an iPhone 12 Pro Max that I attribute to frequent wireless charging and fast charging.

I still dont see the reason for the ginormous box. All of the contents could've fit into the TriFold accessory box (Fold 6 box for comparison).

Apparently my wife disagrees with my box criticism and says the big box does look nicer for the fancy-looking TriFold. 🙃

Wow, that's crazy. You think maybe those people that reserved slots in-store last week came in and made good on their reservation?

I also noticed my TriFold shipped from Ontario, CA, which is within an hour of both California Samsung Experience stores. I wonder if online orders are being fulfilled from in-store stock.
I kinda wonder if in store associates have the ability to cancel orders or tell corporate they don’t have any unreserved inventory because they probably don’t get commission for online sales. Total speculation on my part but makes sense.

Tri Fold feels great to hold. I really like the smooth, yet grippy case. The Tri Fold plus case tips the scale at 350g (321 + 29). It is hefty but feels dense and solid. The weight honestly doesn't bother me, probably because I'm used to my 297g Fold 6 with case, screen protector, S Pen, and built-in MagSafe.

I haven't even turned on the inner screen yet. I have only used the front display to get Smart Switch kicked off to transfer everything between Fold 6 to Tri Fold. I momentarily forgot my Fold 6 is 1TB so I had to clean up some storage to make sure the transfer didn't exceed the 512GB in the Tri Fold. Transfer should complete in about 3 hours.

I love the added width on the front cover screen, carried over from the Fold 7. It is still easy to one-hand, but feels so much roomier than the Fold 6 when typing. Since the Fold 6 has a case with S Pen in the spine, overall it is about as wide as the TriFold and made it pretty easy to get accustomed to the TriFold's dimensions and weight.

The TriFold with half-case is actually thinner than my Fold 6 with full case. Not only that but total overall thickness, including case(s) and camera bump, is equal! Amazing that Samsung could sandwich three displays in the same thickness as the recent Fold 6 design. I mean, we all saw the specs and dimensions but it still shocks me when holding the TriFold and Fold 6 side-by-side.

Good morning, all! I was already pretty impressed with the TriFold last night just exclusively using the front cover display to set up everything, but man that inner screen this morning is glorious!

When you fold out that inner screen and start up YouTube or Nextflix the sensation of that massive screen is like when you upgrade to a huge TV. I have all but forgotten my Fold 6. Despite thinner speakers, I actually find the sound quite good. As I type this in tablet mode my eyes need to dart side-to-side to peck at the split keyboard. I am glad you can resize the split keyboard to reduce the amount of stretch needed for my thumbs to reach G and H.

Now I'm typing in tablet portrait mode and the enlarged regular keyboard makes typing fast and a joy to use. Another interesting thing about tablet mode is the Samsung browser renders all content in mobile format on the cover display (as expected) but defaults to desktop mode when using the inner display.

The Fold 6 was no slouch but the TriFold still feels noticeably snappier with its Fold 7-derived SoC. As big as the unfolded screen is, I have no trouble holding it securely with one hand to watch content. Samsung has done a really good job distributing the weight on the TriFold and past Folds. I still remember my top-heavy iPhone 12 Pro Max always wanting to tip and somersault out of my hand due to the camera bump.

Oh, I wanted to touch on the crease! Even though I was never bothered by the crease in past Folds, the TriFold creases are genuinely less noticeable, especially the left crease. The right crease has a wider crevice because it has to Fold over the left panel, but both creases are still an improvement over the Fold 6. That left crease, in particular, is nearly imperceptible when running my finger across so I believe Samsung/Apple can truly eliminate the crease in the next generation of foldables -- for those that care.

I haven't used the camera yet and am still verifying all my apps but so far the TriFold has been spectacular. For me, the two-display, all-or-nothing approach works well because the cover display from the Fold 7 strikes a perfect balance for everyday usability while the inner display provides the option for more real estate when the moment calls for it, and I expect those moments to become more frequent because it feels so comfortable finishing this post on the inner screen. It is like holding an insanely powerful and light eReader because the weight doesn't really register when unfolded. I don't really see a need for an intermediate display size like on the Huawei and I don't miss my once-marvelous Fold 6. I will post more good and bad after I get more hands-on time with the TriFold but initial impressions have been, again, spectacular.

Okay, a "negative" about the TriFold is it does take more time to close. We have all seen that you have to close the left panel first but, in bracing the center panel to do so, the knuckle at the base of my index finger till want to push up the right-side panel which then wants to close first. This will take a little more practice but clearly won't ever be as quick as whipping a conventional folder open and close.

Words don't do it justice, but this is what I mean when closing my Fold 6. Of course, no issues with two panels and nothing blocking my index finger, but with three panels then the base of my index finger tends to lift the right panel first as I initiate closing the left panel. It will get better with practice.

Edit: Nevermind, I figured it out. Since the TriFold is wider unfolded, my thumb naturally rests at the center of bottom edge when trying to slice the left panel, and this doesn't provide enough proper leverage. However, if I place my thumb more-so towards the left (as in the Fold 6 photo below) then it's easier to initiate the proper close sequence of the TriFold without the right-side panel wanting to close first. Thank you for listening to this important PSA.

And that's where the whole convenience factor come into the picture... being able to open and close is more practical on the Galaxy Fold versus the TriFold. This was the criticism that MrMobile brought up in his review of the TriFold... as much as he likes the form factor, he prefers the Galaxy Fold more.

Subbed and congrats on the endeavor!

I was at my daughter's piano lesson and just browsing the web on the TriFold's inner screen in portrait mode and it works so well as a super-portable tablet. I wasn't a big iPad user when I had both 11- and 12.9-inch versions, but I definitely enjoy using the TriFold unfolded.

But actually, I wanted to make this post about the front cover screen that's shared with the Fold 7. I think the 6.5" screen strikes a great balance for common, everyday use. It isn't too small or narrow, and still remains easy to operate one-handed. Colors are great, as is resolution and refresh rate. I am basically saying Fold 7 users are not missing out on a whole lot since they already know what half of the TriFold experience is like. It is only when you unfurl the sails then the TriFold is unmatched in the phone space.

It will be a great year for foldables as consumers will have more options than ever before.

Not finding many good options for a MagSafe TriFold case at the moment. I am hopeful thinborne comes out with one.

For now, I may slap on a magnet ring. This is just some fitment testing before removing the adhesive backing but the ring surprisingly self-aligns to some magnetic element on the case. The case itself isn't MagSafe because I've tested it on my car mount without success, but it seems to have a small magnetic region near the edge. The ring placement doesn't seem to interfere with Wireless PowerShare and still charges my Buds Pro 3.

Okay, ring is placed and will give it more time for the adhesive to set. Too bad I can't change my Galaxy Watch Ultra with wireless powershare.

*When picking up the old Fold 6 to snap the photo, man the Fold 6 now feels noticeably lighter.
