Well that was a fail. Used my MagSafe kickstand wallet to prop up the TriFold on the dining table and the wallet magnet was so strong that it pulled the ring off, lol. Clean extraction too, no mark nor residue left behind on the TriFold case.

TriFold battery life has been astonishingly good. Yesterday was on pace for 8+ hours of onscreen time and today is trending for 10+ hours, all in Standard performance profile, no power saving, and mixed use with both screens.

The workweek will give me a clearer impression of battery performance, but these initial results are incredibly promising and possibly better than any of my past Folds.

Got the Trifold today. The Samsung store called me since I had previously ordered for pickup. They got 10 units in and held one for me. They also offered trade ins and I was informed they will only do in store trades only. Offered 600 for my Fold 7. I respectfully declined lol

Congrats, @aggie99! Yea, what's the point of trade-in with values like that. I just listed my Fold 6 on Swappa and will see what it can fetch. If it doesn't attract any interest or only receives low-ball offers then I'll just hand it to my brother.

Curious what your thoughts are on the TriFold. After almost a week with it, I don't have any regrets. However, I don't whip out tablet mode as often as I used to open the Fold 6. I find the 6.5" cover display wholly more satisfying than on previous Folds -- no surprise there. On narrower Folds you almost want to use the inner display exclusively. That's the true beauty of the TriFold -- the cover display is very usable and more than adequate for general purpose, but that 10-inch screen is a real treat whenever I switch to it.

I ordered two different MagSafe cases. The first to arrive is this basic Hensinple model from Amazon. GregglesTV uses it too but he doesn't like it and plans to replace it with something else.

I was fully prepared to be disappointed with it too and only planned to use it temporarily while the "nicer" MagSafe case arrives. But ya know what? I actually kinda dig this $16 no-frills case. I wasn't crazy about the white stripes in photos, but in person it offers a nice contrast (I later saw another seller offers an identical case with black stripes with black MagSafe ring to better blend with the TriFold's Crafted Black colorway).

I initially didn't want two edge covers because it blocks the fingerprint sensor, but in practice it isn't as annoying as I feared and I was able to add my left index fingerprint that works well with the edge cover in place. Even if I keep the other case, I think I'll still keep the Hensinple as a backup since it's a lot better than I expected for $16. One drawback is it adds another 49 grams to the TriFold, bringing total weight to 370g.

Here is a photo I took with my daughter's iPhone 15. The TriFold is held securely by my super strong MagSafe car mount. On the drive home the TriFold starts to rotate downwards on bumpy backroads but still stays attached. Once folded close, the TriFold stays completely upright with no hint of detaching from the MagSafe car mount.

The funny thing is, Ugreen states the car mount is good up to a max of 350g (the stock weight of the TriFold with included case), but the car mount actually has no trouble holding onto the TriFold at 370g and still requires a bit of pull to release the phone from the mount.

Ordered the Owkey magsafe/kickstand case. Should be here Saturday. A kickstand is an absolute must on this device and I can't do without magsafe. Hopefully the bigger name companies like Spigen and Torras make some cases but I will give this a chance for now.

Obviously very little time with it so far but I'm amazed with it so far. The fact that it unfolds into a 10" tablet and is barely thicker than my 17 PM with a case on the 17PM is just incredible. The store rep brought out his Fold 4 and the TriFold is not as thick as it. Media looks so much better due to the aspect ratio. Definitely need to spend some more time with it but my initial impression is overwhelmingly positive.

I went ahead and ordered it too to try out. I didn't have a good experience with this type of design with past Folds because the kickstand tends to be quite flimsy, but let's give it another go.

As for the Hensinple case, I was able to detach both side edge covers so now it weighs just as much as the stock Samsung cover but with the added benefit of MagSafe. I completely agree with the need for a kickstand on the TriFold and am currently relying on my slim wallet that doubles as a MagSafe kickstand, but of course my wallet isn't always within reach. Just hope the OWKEY doesn't add too much bulk.

Yeah that part about the bulk is my hope. It's an engineering marvel as thin as it is but its obviously pushing usability limits when adding any more bulk. Especially if trying to use it one handed in bed for instance. The case that came with it is great as far as not adding too much bulk, just wish it had the kick stand and magsafe.

@aggie99, in case you're interested, I learned the TOCOL Fold 7 tempered glass screen protector perfectly fits the TriFold. Apparently, the TriFold has slightly larger bezels, but the active screen area is identical.

I am waiting for a few different stylus to arrive for the TriFold and feel more comfortable scribbling on a screen protector than the actual display. I don't think I'll write on the inner display for now.

I usually get a tempered glass protector but maybe I'm just crazy the front screen sure appears to already have a protective film on it based on the way the ridge feels at the edge of the screen bezel.

It really is a shame, S Pen support would have really made this device more of a beast than it is. That's really about the only complaint I have so far. Of course it could be lighter but kind of hard to do that when packing this much technology into such a small package.

Interesting observation. My thumb kept catching on the ridge at the beginning and it does appear that the display is raised above the bezels. But it's like two levels of bezels.

The active portion of the display has maybe a 2mm smooth black bezel, and then it seems the entire assembly sits slightly above another 1mm bezel before you reach the frame. So yeah, it could be a super thin factory screen protector creating that divide at the 2mm/1mm mark. If it is a factory screen protector, it seems 1/4 or 1/3 the thinness of conventional tempered glass screen protectors.

The odd thing though is there's a color difference with the raised portion. If it indeed is a factory screen protector on the front, then why does it go from black bezel to gray bezel? Anyone with a Fold 7 notice the same thing on the outer cover display?

I do not notice this on my Fold 7. It's literally flat across the screen bezels all the way to the frame. That's why I'm stumped lol. Ive been searching thru reddit and YouTube videos to see if there is any mention of it with no luck. I may go ahead and get one just to be safe but it sure feels great the way it is straight out of the box.

Sorry, I forgot you have a collection of phones, including the Fold 7. Does the Fold 7 exhibit the two-tone bezels like the TriFold? Or, like you said, it's just smooth across and also uniform in bezel color?

I've been looking at TriFold images online and it's really difficult to see what we're describing.

Gotta admit that right now I am not all that interested in Folding phones due to the price point involved. Maybe when they come down in price I could get one, but as of right now I can't justify the price point of nearly 2k after tax for a phone. I can get the top of the line newest Iphone for that kind of money.

This is taken with my old Note8 -- TriFold on the bottom and Fold 6 on top. Notice how the Fold 6 bezel is uniform all the way to the frame. On the TriFold it goes from frame edge, to gray bezel, to imperceptibly raised black bezel (ignore the screen protector I already have on top).

That is what @aggie99 and I are talking about since it gives the impression there's already a factory screen protector on the outer display, but if that's the case then why the different bezel colors?

Whoa! I didn't realize the top-of-the-line 2TB iPhone 17 Pro Max is $1999! I think that puts foldable prices in a good light. The top-of-the-line iPhone 17 Pro Max's screen size is still dwarfed by foldables, and when Apple releases their foldable iPhone later this year then we will see more people suddenly justify an even higher price for a phone.

If you want to compare equivalent storage capacity the 1tb ZF7 is a lot more expensive that a 1tb 17 Pro Max. Although Samsung sales helps offset some of that difference.

Right now, there's a $420 difference between the 1TB 17 Pro Max and the Fold 7 (retail $1600 vs $2020). And only a $200 difference between 512GB models. Everyone is different, but I don't find that to be an outrageous premium for a flagship foldable over a flagship slab phone, especially if you spread payments over 12 or 24 months.

I don't either and I also think if you're trading a phone in at a carrier store that helps a lot too. But that's a plus of a Samsung device, they offer great discounts and stuff to somewhat offset the price. But they are still expensive, even the slabs.

If you're stateside, check out Best Buy's open box sale on the Fold 7.. The Unlocked 256GB variant can be had from $639(fair condition) - $799(excellent condition).

You can also stack any trade-in with that, to sweeten the deal!

Yeah, I seen a post on Reddit discussing the Best Buy deal. But now Best Buy has a restocking fee attached to open box cellular items... so I'm concerned with giving it a go and ultimately I'm alright with waiting out for the Fold 8 Wide, since we have about 5 months until a potential release.
