Same for me. I'm all for competition in the foldable space... but Samsung has me locked in with the feature set it provides.

Have you joined the beta program for One UI 8.5 on the Fold 7? Part of me wants to head up to Best Buy and pick one up just to check out the beta lol
Samsung foldable software is the best so far but if the Razr is somewhere between Samsung and the Pixel Fold the cameras and battery could win me over.

Apparently its reported that NOT even Apple is going to completely eliminate the crease on its upcoming Fold

It's supposed to be a floating windows... are you able to move it? And what about the battery status percentage... notice you didn't change that?

And how the font customization? Is it broken within the beta?

I will check if it floats when I'm back home today, I didn't even think of checking the battery so I will check that as well. It kept my custom font but did not try to change to another so I will also check as I've read it was not working with the update.

@Ludatyk battery icon looks as bad as ever lol... I can't find a way to have the notification area float unless I'm missing a step... Once I changed the font all my z-font fonts are no good...

As of March 2026, working with custom fonts in One UI 8.5 has become significantly more difficult compared to previous versions. Samsung has actively patched the traditional workarounds that users relied on during the One UI 8.0 cycle.

Here is the current status and what you can do:

1. The "Lock-In" Effect
The most critical thing to know right now is that if you already have a custom font applied and you just updated to One UI 8.5, do not change it.
The Glitch: Reports from the community indicate that existing custom fonts often persist through the update.
The Risk: Once you switch back to a default font or a Galaxy Store font, the system blocks the "injection" methods used to re-apply your custom .ttf file.

2. Current Status of Popular Tools
zFont 3 / Mono: Most users are reporting that these apps are currently broken on One UI 8.5. Even with Shizuku (wireless debugging) authorized, the final step to "apply" the font typically results in a "Font not supported" error.
The Shizuku + MT Manager Method: This manual method (which involves swapping files inside a signed APK) was the go-to fix for One UI 8.0, but it is also hitting a wall with the 8.5 security patches.

3. Is there a workaround?
Developers are currently looking for new exploits, but there isn't a stable, "one-click" solution yet. However, a few users have had luck with:
The "Fonts" App (GitHub/F-Droid): Some are moving away from zFont to an open-source app simply called "Fonts" by jeeneo. It uses a slightly different packaging method that sometimes bypasses the initial signature check.
Galaxy Store Alternatives: If you're just looking for a clean, sans-serif look (like Google Sans), the "Samsung Sans" or "inter" fonts in the Galaxy Store are the only guaranteed stable options right now.

4. Why it's harder now
One UI 8.5 introduced stricter signature verification for font packages. Samsung effectively treats custom-injected fonts as "unsigned apps," which the new "Auto Blocker" and system-level security filters catch more aggressively than before.
Would you like me to keep an eye out for a new zFont update or a confirmed One UI 8.5 workaround and let you know when it drops?

They likely made it in limited quantities and once supply is exhausted they are done. Always felt like this would be a test to see how it would be received and at what price they can sell it. I'll say this, it's too damned good of a device not to return in some form in the future. I'll have a hard time moving on from this device for anything else. In fact when I get home from Hawaii I may hit the Samsung store and buy a second one as a backup in case something happens to this one. I love this device that much.

This kind of reminds of the cat and mouse game HeX Theming... every major One UI update, Samsung broke HeX Theming. And the devs constantly had to keep applying fixes to get it working.

After awhile, devs decided it was enough and abandon the project.

Not surprised. They hinted it awhile back during the S26 series event... What got me wondering is why? Just raise the cost if it's expensive to produce... it's selling out in minutes, @aggie99 is willing to buy another one as a backup.

While I don't plan to get a backup TriFold, I definitely look forward to a sequel and hope the TriFold isn't a one-hit wonder.

As incresible as my past Folds have been, the TriFold makes me forget all of them. Samsung can raise the TriFold price and still find buyers. There are very few phones like the TriFold. Does this mean TriFold owners are all daily driving a collector's item?

Hopefully they don't give up on us this time haha I have a paid font as a backup for these situations haha

What an unpleasant surprise, the Oppo Find N6 is not gonna be released in Europe 🤧. It looks like Oppo has a winner on its hands, except for proper dust resistance, it feels kinda perfect, why not release it in more countries? After the iPhone Fold is released, very likely foldables will get kinda mainstream

My guess is the infrastructure is not set up for the Oppo Find N6 to succeed… specifically for service and repairs. Only way they bring the Find N6 to more countries is through OnePlus and they have decided to bid farewell to a successor for the Open.

With the end of the Trifold, do we still expect two different Z Folds this year? I know the Trifold was being sold at a loss, so I am not surprised they killed the product, but maybe they also learned a lesson with the Trifold and the Edge that they don't need to do every imaginable form factor?

That sounds reasonable but they are releasing the Find X9 Ultra in Europe, oh well, maybe they need other conditions to release a foldable here 🫠

I was at an all-day training for work yesterday. We were seated in groups and one guy says, "oh you brought your tablet", to which I replied, "no, it's my phone". He was flabbergasted when I folded and unfolded the TriFold.

I wrote in Samsung Notes and embedded snapshots all throughout the training. He kept marveling at the TriFold and said he wants one. I didn't mention the price, nor the fact it gets sold out, and may not be available anymore.
