I think the part that gets me a little upset if it's true will be that Samsung will provide Apple screens to improve inside crease while not upgrading their own.

Not trying to make any excuses for Samsung but from their point of view I don't think the crease is as important to them as if it is to Apple and Apple user base.

I think Apple has to win over their user base first and foremost... and every time I see a article discussing foldables on Macrumors or any Apple centric site the main issue is the crease. And I think you and people like us... the crease does not discourage us buying the device, but Apple loyalist won't share that same mindset.

I agree with that part but I still don't get with the company making a technology it won't use its own phone bc we know it can

Maybe by economies of scale they project to make more money by selling extra refined displays to Apple and need not make as financial reason to apply on own products?

I’m trying to remember what the discounts, preorder deals and launch offers were like for the Galaxy Fold 7. I bought mine on August 22nd for €1405, a month after the official German release, which was July 25th and the retail price was listed as €2099. That was wild, such a huge discount so soon, I don't know how that came to be.

The thing is that I never actually saw it sold for €2099. From what I remember, Samsung initially sold only the 500 GB version, but priced it the same as the 256 GB model. Then after some time, they finally started selling the 256 GB version for €1899.

I just checked Samsung’s website to see what the trade‑in value would be if I upgraded from the Fold 6 to the Fold 7, just to get an idea of what the Fold Wide 8 might cost with similar deals, but they'd just I've 775 eur, that is quite bad, I*m sure I could sell my fold 7 for €1000-1200. How do you think the preorder discounts for the Fold Wide 8 will be?

Basically, I’m trying to figure out the best place and time to buy the Fold Wide 8 when it launches. 👼🏼

Well, last year for the Fold 7... we didn't get any crazy discount (at least, in the US). Normally, the previous model will get up to $1200 in trade-in value... that's why I didn't bother upgrading. Don't get me wrong, I had hesitations when it comes to the lack of S-Pen support... but if I had gotten a pretty nice discount then I would had considered upgrading.

During the preorder period... Samsung tend to beef up the value for trade-ins, so don't focus on the discounts now.

Best place and time to secure a Galaxy device is always direct from Samsung and during preorder.

Yeah, I peeped it earlier this morning... I believe Reddit grabbed it from IceUniverse. Only about two months out until we can preorder it, disappointed with the lack of S-Pen. But it is what it is... at this point the main concern I have is how they will go about the cost of it.

My guess is the Z Fold 8 will be around 2k while the Z Fold 8 Wide could be $1800... or Samsung could price the Wide at $2k and raise the Fold 8 to $2200, which would give me some hesitation on preordering (especially when there's no S-Pen). Then there's the trade in value... not sure how that's going to go, because last year they changed it up with lower values for trade-ins.

And in addition to that... there is no trade in option for the Buds 4 Pro.

Hopefully it will be a lower price I'm hoping for a $1600- $1700 range, I'd love S pen support for you folks that use them but probably not happening. Let's see them trade-in deals.

I don't think the wide fold should be priced the same as the regular Fold due to the camera downgrade, hopefully Samsung sees it the same way.
I've been watching a lot of Motorola content and I think the Razr Fold is a legit contender even though most are probably going to skip it and go Samsung.
I went to Best Buy yesterday to see what they had on display for Motorola and no fold and no 2026 ultra.

There are so many things that in my opinion keep me away from Motorola Fold, it looks like a solid device but I don't see a reason why I would pick it over my current Fold 7. A few reviews are already stating that it beats Samsung easily but there is more to me than a larger battery and brighter screen. I like the thinness of the Samsung phone, I like the software tweaks with Good Lock, edge panel, I like all the third party accessories, software updates, AI is top on Google and Samsung phones,iP rating is higher on Samsung, trade in value after picking up this Fold might not be the same as what Moto is doing now since they are enticing move to Moto now but resell prob will be reduced. UWB not present is big for me too. It's probably going to be a solid device for many and I like to have options outside of Google and Samsung so I'm all for it

Because most of the content creators got the Moto Fold for free... so, they are going to be more favorable covering it while devaluing the Fold 7. And to be fair, battery life is the huge selling point when it comes to smartphones... so it makes sense to highlight that and praise Moto for it. But I'm like you though... there's plenty of portable battery packs out there to help in cases when we need to juice up, I think it would be a totally different issue... if the Fold 7 had horrible battery life.

Moto is a really solid device... hardware is impressive. But yeah, hard for me to give up on Galaxy features... been on board since the Fold 2. I might look hard at the iPhone Fold... but that's more so if Samsung does something silly in July where they raise the cost and lower trade in values.

I don't think the wide fold should be priced the same as the regular Fold due to the camera downgrade, hopefully Samsung sees it the same way.
Of course, it's not going to be priced the same... but it likely take the price slot of the regular Fold and that would leave the regular Fold price being about $2200-2300.

I don't think it's a slam dunk over a Z Fold at all but there are things I can see that people might prefer with the Razr. Battery life is a big one plus the cameras. I like the way it runs three apps side by side compared to how Samsung does it but I'd still need hands on with it to see. Samsung has set the bar pretty high for me. But I'm glad there is another challenger to hopefully push Samsung harder although we probably won't reap all the benefits until the Fold 9.

I guess it doesn't matter what kind of improvements there are or are not the regular Fold will probably sell well but I hope the hardware improvements are more than just a bigger battery and new processor.

Also want to see the Fold 8 and Razr comparisons. That's more of an equal comparison to me than using the Fold 7 even though I understand that's the only comparison we can do right now.

They are improving the ultra wide lens as well... from 12MP to 50MP.

We will see it soon enough come around July 22nd... along with Pixel 11 Pro Fold comparison the following month as well.

If the ZF8 Ultra is 2-300 more than the current ZF7 and the ZF8 wide is the same price as the ZF7 are you guys going to be ok with that?

I’m okay with it as long as Samsung don’t hurt us on the trade-in value… plus if bringing on the Ultra branding helps to carry over Ultra-level features from the S line, then I’m all for it.

Because if it this means… next year with a potential ZF9 Ultra release, we get the S-Pen and improved telephoto lens as well, I’m definitely jumping on it. But this year my target is on the wide variant of the Fold series.

I also hope the ZF9 brings all the ultra stuff to it. I think with the added competition Samsung will go all out. Not sure the ZF8 is worth a price increase but if I was looking to buy one I'd do it anyway because I like phones. Lol

Ummm... that Moto Razr Fold is looking kinda appealing now lol. Craig was doing some multitasking on it.. can do 3 carousel full-screen windows/apps in one instance. This is what bothers me about Samsung.. they haven’t done anything new when it comes to multitasking in forever.

Kudos to Moto for being creative and doing something unique…. I like it. Trying to debate if I should go ahead and pull the trigger on the Moto Fold… only thing holding me back is my familiarity with all the Galaxy features.

Yeah, I'm seriously thinking about getting the Moto fold. Unfortunately, I don't see any carrier deals, specifically Verizon. I love that the stylus works on both the front and inside screens, too.

That's my favorite foldable channel. I'm going to watch that video tomorrow hopefully.
I like their take on multitasking. It's different than Samsung but nice.

Yeah, AT&T doesn’t even have it available. And when you go directly to Moto… you have to pay full price even with the trade in.

Not sure if the Moto Fold is on the table for me… guess I’m going to ride out with Samsung.

Yeah, it’s refreshing to see something different.

I'm on T-Mobile and the Razr Fold isn't available there either along with most of the 2026 flips. Hopefully carriers will sell them because if not it's going to be hard to get traction in today's market.
