Seeing these Fold 8 (Wide) hands on videos is making the wait for iPhone Ultra (pls don’t name it that) so difficult. When I see video of people holding it closed, it looks effing perfect for what I want, which is a small phone when I want my phone to be small, and a big phone when I want my phone to be big.

Is going to be amazing and perfect for exactly what you want, I had the original pixel and it was really nice and loved it minus it was not the best with a lot of things LOL but the form factor was great and these new ones going to be even better.

I think this is going to hinder some of Samsung's Flip sales, and probably why Apple didn't go with a Flip version.

I'm not thrilled about the color options for the Wide Fold 🤧, the colors are too desaturated, the names definitely make them sound more colorful than they are. What kind of pistachio looks so pale? It pretty much feels like a pale gray with green tones and lavender is a similar case, I associate lavender with a way richer color.

I ordered a Watch ultra 2. Happy with my S26U, but missed my Apple Watch Ultra, and I think the better Battery and trail run feature, plus student discount, W9 code (in UK) and trade in brought price down to £409. I doubt it's £400 better than my galaxy watch ultra 1, but meh. I did get £112 back for a watch that cost me £200 2 years ago though. (sale price, student discount, trade in offer on an old Garmin, plus cashback)
So I canceled and reordered because the trade in for my old ultra went up by £20 ... So now it's £389

I quite like the look of the official carbon magnet case for the phones, but I wish it would also protect the cover screen as well, it is completely exposed, I know, it makes the phone bulkier, but the phone costs 2000 euros, I want some piece of mind when I use it.

He says in another video he posted it’s harder to trigger on the Fold than the Ultra, perhaps that’s what’s caused the confusion?
Yes, I think the wide most definitely will only trigger a few instances just right. But overall the ultra will stay as current phones now

The fold will ship on August 7, about 3 weeks until Apple has their iPhone event.

Not that long of a wait to see what Apple has cooked up.

My guess…. Wide Fold doesn’t support Flex Mode, so why should they bother having a rigid hinge. Not saying I agree with them… but that’s how it seems.
Not trying to be hater b/c I think it looks killer overall but this really feels like an unnecessary attempt to add value to the more expensive model by cutting the Fold 8 off at the knees. I didn't even using flex mode when I previously had the Folds though so for me it would be fine.

Just came back from the store and I love it. It's so light and I prefer the aspect ratio, especially portrait mode feels like a regular book size or iPad Mini. It just feels more natural than the previous squarecin a way?

I have to say that you don't gain anything in terms of Video consumption though, only that the black bars are slimmer.

I can easily type with one hand though I normally type with both hands anyway

Three apps side by side. Two big and 2 smaller square apps (so 4 in total) doesn't work btw

I get the argument that you don’t gain anything from a video-size standpoint over the Ultra, but also you kind of do: it’s a smaller, lighter device, thus in theory easier to hold, while offering the same size video with less distracting letterboxing. Which, if I’m going to watch video unfolded I would be holding it. At its worst, it’s not a downgrade.

Also what is happening in that Tom Holland video comparison image above is interesting. The Ultra is letterboxing AND adding some sort of weird gradient blur to the open space, and the wide is just black letterboxing it all.

The other one is my Fold 7, not the Ultra but nevertheless I see what you mean.

Edit: I think it's due to the "ambient" setting in the YouTube app
