Thanks everyone for the great responses about the sci-fi/drama ratio. Sounds more drama, but not at the exclusion of sci-fi, which is good to hear.

For context, I found "The Martian" to be something closer to 90/10. Star Trek TNG maybe 75/25. Star Trek Discovery maybe 10/90, which was really disappointing for me, but meh everyone has different tastes.

Some points:

The Alternate history provides the backdrop - it's not a big 'what-if' piece of alternate history fiction like 'man in the high castle'. Also the alternate history is nuanced, there are some changes but not massive ones.

It seems to stay true to scientific principles and tries to be realistic.

In terms of the 'plot driven sci-fi' to 'character driven drama' ratio, I'd say it's about 40/60. It's certainly more character stuff than sci-fi. But it works well - the characters are interesting and very human.
IMO it’s very balanced in this sense. I do like this show a lot. And the soundtrack has been excellent so far.

It's interesting that the announcement did not say it was the third and final season (unless I missed it). Hoping for a few more seasons after season 3.

I would also like to see Apple take on Project Hail Mary for a live version. A fantastic book. Probably my second favorite from last year after Rythym of War.

Can't wait... that season 2 ending with the Nirvana song and the shot of a boot on Mars still gives me goosebumps.

Great news and looking forward to how they see the race to Mars playing out.

I also saw that Tehran season 2 is about to hit, I was hoping they had another season, nothing special but I like spy shows.

I remember reading somewhere that there were going to be 4 seasons.. I really hope it doesn't end on Season 3 unless it comes with at least 24 episodes

...except when it doesn't. Some stuff is just plain ludicrous - an air-launched, nuclear powered shuttle to get to the Moon? Seriously? Just so wrong, in so many different ways. There's others, of course, but generally it does OK-ish. If you can get past that, it's pretty good in terms of story and character, and the costumes and sets are pretty good too. Not enough credit goes to those departments. I like it and look forward to more seasons beyond 3. Could go on indefinitely.

Generally, if you want scientific accuracy, don't watch stuff on TV, unless it's a actual science programme.

It took an Elon Musk to make colonizing Mars seem like a possible reality in this lifetime.

Loved the first season. Liked the second season too but not that much.

Same. Second season was a solid 6/10 for me. Good but not outstanding. I will be watching season 3 with anticipation but I have a feeling this show is quite quickly going to outstay its welcome. It's good, sometimes very good, but just shy of being A-list.

If nothing else, their dramatic use of duct tape in space demonstrated their desire to stay true to scientific principles, for sure.

JUNE 10 !!!
I’m going to have to start watching all episodes again right before season 3 starts. That was a very long gap between seasons. I hate that.
Wait until it start, they only release 3 episodes at the beginning, then weekly. So then you should be done rewatching by the time final episode is released.
