Well, we all get excited about different things, that's for sure.

If electronics/gadgets are your thing, that's great. I can certainly appreciate that, as I'm much more into gadgets than other things that many people get excited about like sports, etc myself.

But...

There is a serious problem with our culture where many people no longer understand delayed gratification or patience. Everyone wants everything now and many seem to feel a sense of entitlement these days. There is little sense of working hard for something, saving, or sacrificing in our culture anymore.

In the end, it *is* just a phone. Most of the people on this forum probably already have a great iPhone and the fact that people get so worked up about their order status not saying "shipped" when someone else's does or even having to wait a couple of weeks to get the latest and greatest model really is sickening.

I'm glad you love your iPhone. So do I. But there is nothing wrong with my current iPhone either. While I am eligible for an upgrade and plan on upgrading soon, I am also not going to act like a child if that happens to be a few weeks after the next guy. In the end, it is just a phone - no matter how cool that phone may be.

I could not agree more. Emphasis mine.

Agree 110%

While I will try and get one on launch day I'm not camping out for one.

If I get it then great... if it takes a few days/weeks longer then so be it. My current still works great... it wont suddenly break on the 24th or anything

Maybe thats the case for you.....

But to some of us Apple technology is an important part of our lifes....

For some people on this planet, finding their next meal is an important part of their life. All the people whining about the release date or if their order was cancelled etc.etc. need to think about that and put things into perspective.

In the end, it IS just a tech gadget. It's not equivalent to breathing air, or food or water. So there is no need to get so worked up about it as if it were. Especially if you already have an iPhone. It's not like yours will stop working on the day the new one comes out.

Its the only phone I can use

Here is my defense lol

1. I to used to use an razr v3, This was a big problem because I am legally blind meaning I can't read small text or see very far. I will put this into prospective for you its so bad I will never be able to drive a car legally. So I had to use a small magnifier to see contacts, text messages, and alarms, I did have an ipod touch since gen 1 and it was allot better to use I still had to use the magnifier but it was a bigger and brighter screen so when I got my iphone 3gS I saw that it had accessibility settings! I can see everything on the screen just like a "normal" LOLZ! Its the best phone I have ever used I'm hoping the new "retina" display will help make it less blocky when zoomed in to the screen.

2. Camping out I can wait for the new phone but something about camping out the night before is fun to me. My brother and I try to do it once or twice a year I just enjoy the geek factor of it plus you meet other obsessed people lots of fun! just my 2 cense

Yup.

I'm going to sit here in my freakin underwear, drinkin a Gin & Tonic and this thing is going to be delivered right to my doorstep.

Freaks.

:D

Ahh gin and tonic is my favorite alcohol drink. Now I'm craving one with some lime and I don't have any gin or tonic. grrr

I actually need to get the iPhone on launchday so I don't have to go through another month with Verizon.

Oh... and I just really like Apple.
and you think AT&T will be better?

"an upgrade everyone will have in a month" - well maybe I don't want to wait a month? Not because I feel entitled, but because I'm simply excited about the phone? It's the same as a movie you're dying to see or a concert you've been wanting to go to for years. You have a chance to get it but you know a lot of others want to as well, and you know it's going to sell out fast. You could say "I'll see it whenever", or you could say "I'll stay up and try to order as soon as I can, so I'll have a better chance of getting it right away". Again (because some ppl dont seem to understand this), not because I'll die without it, but simply because I'm excited about it. Sometimes I wonder if all these "it's just a phone" people have ever been excited about anything in their lives. I did this for tickets to a few gigs I really wanted to go see, as well as a couple of movies. There have been books I went and bought on release day. It was never cos I felt I deserved it or didnt have patience or the ****ing world didnt matter to me, it was because I was excited about it and wanted to experience it as soon as possible. Which, as far as I'm aware, doesn't hurt anybody.

And for all the "it's only a phone, there's children starving" comments - how do you know I don't give to charity or volunteer? Being excited about an iphone and helping those in need aren't mutually exclusive. I dont go on and on about charity work I do here tho, cos - guess what - this is a PHONE forum. Not a charity forum. Knowhutimean?

Now I'm going to check and see if my phone has shipped yet. Gosh, I'm so entitled.

How do you surmise all this just because people are excited for a phone?

I love my iPhone. But at the same time, I don't understand how people spend huge amounts of time sweating an upgrade that a month from now everyone will have.

I'm glad I didn't even come on here on launch day and here stories of people who spent hours trying to upgrade online...I probably would have been scared off.

I had remembered it was launch day over lunch and went to an ATT store to place my order. 10 minutes in and out. There is absolutely no way I would have wasted any more than 30 minutes trying. Waking up at midnight? Trying at 3:00 a.m. Spending all day trying to place an order....are you serious????

And the kicker is I'm not even in town on the day my order is scheduled to be shipped to the store. I won't pick it up until 3-4 days after the launch. Though seeing of all the drama on here...I'll probably Mr. Magoo my way out of the crazy launch day activation fiasco.

Like I said, I love my iPhone. But if I got the new one on the 24th, 28th, July 1, July 15 or whenever - it's no big deal.

You most likely wont be getting an iphone ..I know they hold the phone for 24 hours .. after that they sell it

I don't think he cares.

Honestly I wouldn't care either, but I want my AT&T contract to start ASAP so that I have the highest possibility of being early upgrade eligible when the next iPhone is released.

I said that too... but my firstGen started to not charge this week. but that wouldn't be an issue if say... apple allowed white preorders or told me when i could buy it

I love tech and sports. My gf loves Twilight. Different flavors for different people

Tech (Apple) is life for some people. I'd rather watch the world cup with a newcastle in hand as opposed to track my order status from china. When it gets here ill be happy. Until then i'll still be happy haha :)

I wouldn't tell someone to get a life its just a phone. If thats what excites you then go for it.

Perfectly stated, lionqueen.

Speaking of which, I delayed getting tickets to Fences on Broadway, then the lead actors won Tony awards, and now all tickets are sold out.

I found a pair of fantastic jeans, but put off getting a second pair. Now, they're no longer sold.

Not that the iPhone 4 will sell out, never to be sold again, but if some of us don't want the delay, that's okay as you've articulated so well.

1+ Spot on.
To some it may just be a phone, to us it's a new way of life. :apple:

It's actually a mental disorder. And comparing the absolute NEED of some people to have the latest gadget upon its release to following a sports team is misguided and naive. A better comparison is to someone who follows a sports team that's willing to neglect family, friends, his job to see a game, and whose life falls apart completely if that team he's invested in ever loses. That's a sickness. People that pledge allegiance to a soulless corporation like Apple or MS or Google are the same. If you feel like you NEED the iphone 4 so badly that you'd wait overnight in a line just to get it, your life is a sad one, and you may be in actual need of help.

If I thought it would be no problem to pick up a new iPhone a few days or a week after the launch, I would wait, but based on the huge frenzy of preordering and the shortage of ipads that occurred at that launch, I simply cannot afford to miss this first wave of iPhones. I've sold my 3GS because it's value was dropping and now the only phone i have is an old nokia that will not receive email. I need to be able to get email for work and toting around my iPad is not very convenient, plus I look kinda silly pulling out my iPad all the time. So that's why I'm going to arrive early to make sure I get one on the twenty fourth. I realize it's only a phone, but it's actually more than just a phone, it's a useful tool that I can only be without comfortably for a short period of time.

Actually since it's 7 days as a pre-order, not a reservation. This was clearly explained by the AT&T Store Rep and is printed right on receipt. Since I'm charged when they ship it, they aren't going to turn around and sell it 24 hours later

But if they did sell it, I'll be sure to come to this forum for instructions how to overreact and demand reparations and justice.

OK, not really. I'd just wait patiently until they sent another one.
