For people that have ALREADY completed 2.0.2 update,do you notice anything different?

I notice many reports of things seeming faster and snappier following an update. I think it's just because the phone was basically restored, albeit with new FW. It's bound to improve until the cobwebs creep back in. It's a computer after all.

same old ipoo.

Here is a little perspective:

A firmware update will not fix AT&T.

Everything is working for me as usual.

That's a big bag of BS from a website that blindfolded for apple. I deal with many 3G AT&T phones on a day to day basis and I even tested out my own SIM with a 3G capable motorola that was released years ago and have great signal strength where as I have nothing with the 3G iphone.

Also, AT&T never held a gun to Apple's head and said 'make us the carrier or else'. No, this was a conscientious decision by apple to sign a deal with AT&T. They could have signed with anyone else but they chose AT&T and decided to even lengthen their contract with them. You can try to blame AT&T all you want but there's full responsibility from both. Also the lack of 3G signal strength is not just for users here in the states.

my house is AWFUL for 3g reception. if i go into either of my yards i get 3-4 bars, inside the house is the tiny little bar and my calls always drop.

i was always having to turn 3g off when i was in the house. after the new 2.0.2 update, the phone actually switches over to edge when it needs to in the house, instead of just giving me a NO SERVICE message like it used to.

thats the biggest thing i've noticed so far and it makes me very happy.

3g speeds are about the same, in good reception i'm getting about 1200kbps down / 150 kbps up.

the menus and contacts/sms all seem a little quicker too. i didn't ever have problems with safari crashing so can't comment on that

After the update, the phone was a bit snappier, but alas it could just be the placebo effect or the fact the phone was rebooted......

After about 10 minutes of safari surf'n, the phone froze and went to home screen.

It's about 5 hours since the update, and my phone is starting to feel very lethargic again.

I am not sure if it has corrected anything at all, but I am sure it was more background type things to remain more stable. I personally have not had all these crashes and freezes that others are experiencing.

I don't believe that this has changed anything with the 3G reception and dropped call issue as I still think they are working on the software for that. I haven't really had the problems with 3G like many have had, but I still have seen all the other issues others are having and there needs to be a fix for it.

Well, I haven't had a single app crash yet. I was getting at least one a day in 2.0.1. Apps do seem to load a bit quicker, but that could be because it was rebooted today.

Contacts still lag.

Safari seems a bit quicker.

GoogleMaps loads quicker.

I won't really know for a day or two, though. We'll see how the phone is acting then.

I really hope there is a recall. I wouldn't mind getting a new phone.

What sites are people going to or how are they using their phones that they get all of these Safari crashes?

I can't even remember the last time it crashed on me.

For people that have ALREADY completed 2.0.2 update, do you notice anything different? :)

Yep, since the update I now get zero bars. Did restart, hard reset and still zero bars. I can still make a call and receive calls for some reason, and only if I stay at a certain area in my house. If I move around the house it goes in and out, just like before. So perhaps the update gives a true representation of AT&T crappy coverage in my area. Maybe I need a signal booster at home.

I noticed a change to the App Store updating procedure......

Before:

If you had more than 1 update to your installed apps you could press an "Update All" button and it would download them and install them sequentially.

While updating an app the App Store was pretty much useless. You could hardly even get into the App Store and whem you did it was very slow, if not empty.

Now (with the 2.0.2 update):

The "Update All" button is gone, so you have to look at each app and choose to update.

You can now browse the store while an app is updating, not only to go back and choose your next update but you can also browse around the store with no lag.

That's all I've noticed so far :)

Anything different?
Yep - now none of my Apps will start up. I KNEW i should have held off on the upgrade - dammit!! Just as I had got it working with no more crashes.

No difference whatsoever.

- Graphics are still as sluggish as a turtle in molasses
- Still an inexplicable 2 second delay on many operations
- 3G signal still deemed unworthy in an area where other 3G phones have 5 bars

In a few hours I can probably add...

- Battery life still abysmal
- Still dropping calls

I had the same problem, but in 2.0
I do not notice this in 2.0.1 as of yet.
Keyboard typing does not lag now and switching to dif tabs in the phone book is quick now and does not lag.

My 3G seems much worse. It keeps not working at all and requires a restart to load anything :( Speed is OK when it works, but it just sits there spinning doing nothing until I restart (this is with OK service). If I let it sit long enough it will say "Safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding." It does this on any site I try until I restart the phone. Very much annoying!

EDIT: I'd never had any sort of problem with 3G before this update, not with 2.0 or 2.0.1.

EDIT: Just found out that if I hard close safari (hold home button until it closes) this also seems to fix the problem.

Yeah, AT&T is not the culprit here. I live in Sweden where the designated iPhone carrier Telia has 3G towers in every nook and cranny since several years. With my old 3G phone I had good signal in my home 24/7. With the iPhone, the 3G symbol is visible for 3-4 seconds on each startup, then it disappears. It only reappears occasionally when I'm out on the balcony. So much for the plastic backside allowing for good signal...

I've had Safari crash a few times and it's usually on MacRumors :)

Exactly the same here (uk). It's weird as it gets a reasonable signal (2bars) and yet it will still switch to a lower network and sometimes not even EDGE, but GPRS or worse......no data at all!
I did find that manually selecting 3G from the network list really improved the time it stayed with 3G. Downside is you do get an annoying message everytime it loses 3G signal. ;-(

No difference for me, except possibly faster sync/backups, but we'll see if that is true in general, or it was just a one-off.

But I have no complaints, since I haven't had any of the problems people have reported, in any of the updates.

SMS doesn't seem to lag, Contacts don't seem to lag and Location Services was instant on WIFI the one time I tried. However it did erase most of my apps from my phone. I re-downloaded the free ones from the App Store but Monkey Ball won't seem to let me download again without purchasing.

that happened to me, I ended up purchasing a second time. I wrote apple and had the refund in like 2 days.

Well, I just got back from working my short shift this morning and I used my 3G iPhone the whole time and the 3G never failed me once!

I'm in my car my entire shift and I decided to use Last FM. Loaded up the app and chose my library as the station for today. It chose songs to play on Last Fm that I already owned and several songs by artists that I like but I don't own those songs. The playlist was smooth, only once did it take a few extra seconds to buffer. Again, my 3G signal never once switched over to edge. This is in the Denver/Mountain View area around Lakeside. When I got home, I carried my phone in the house as I was still listening to a song, put away a few things I bought at the convenience store and the song played on as the phone sat on the kitchen table. I walked all through the top floor of the house and the signal never faded though it showed anywhere from 1-3 bars. I tested the speed at testmyiphone.com and it showed 1.55MBPS. Not sure how accurate that site is.

I didn't make any phone calls, I rarely have to use my phone on the early morning shifts but my 3G iPhone is definitely doing it's job and I am a happy camper this morning!

Was it the update to 2.0.2, not so sure because I've always had great 3G service in my area minus one small section that gets wiped out due to a radio station towers signal.

2.0.2

Here's what I've noticed with 2.0.2 so far:

  • Faster startup time.
  • No more crashing with Safari.
  • Faster responsiveness in Contacts.
  • New copy & paste.
  • Ability to forward text messages.
  • New MMS picture texting.
  • Better battery life.
  • GPS turn-by-turn directions.
  • Open folders to briefcase any file type.
  • Activation of video camera (and still camera improved to 5 megapixel.)
  • New ability to download unauthorized 3rd party apps directly from the internet not in the App Store.
  • Loss of 3 inches from my waist.
  • Less crabgrass in my front lawn.

I think it's great! Kudos to Jobs!
