Very interesting results so far. Seems very mixed.

Seeing how most people barely got the phone today. Give it a week or so for a final decision

What do you think? Do you miss the screen size? Is it just perfect? Is the form factor better? I know it just released but I’d like some gut reactions if possible.

Thanks!
I like the size. It’s not so much smaller it’s very noticeable since I used an SE from when I sold my 11 pro max a few week go until now. I think its a good in between size.

I have the Pro coming today to replace my 11PM. I know I am going to miss the larger screen and epic battery but I have become tired of using the 11PM.

I often use my phone open handed and with the 11PM it is I think the combination of the width and weight that has become tiresome. For example I also have an S20 plus and that is a comfortable phone to use IMO. People who use it and type on it 2 handed will no doubt have a different view.

I am really looking forward to getting the 12 Pro now even if I know that screen will be missed at times.

Much like the others here, I am glad to be back to a more practical size (the 11PM was my first Plus/Max-sized phone). The fact that the 12/12P is barely larger than the previous 5.8" body, while still offering a 6.1" display, is just the cherry on top. Not gonna lie, though, it is a little jarring at first because our eyes are so used to that 6.5" but I think it's worth it.

You will enjoy ... I haven’t thought about my 11pm. I swear the text is sharper on the smaller screen . Maybe the iOS was made for this screen size and it was scaled up for the bigger iPhones

I’ve had the XS Max and the 11 Pro Max and went with the regular 12. Love the lighter weight. And I think the stainless steel frame on the Pro models are better looking on the previous models where the frame are rounded compared to the flat frame. So quite happy with the regular 12 so far 😍

Im also going from a xs max to a 12, how you finding text in safari? Not to small?

How’s the battery life compared to a xs max?

I’ve had a 4, 5S, 6+, 8+, and XS Max over the years. Wife had an XR and always eyed the size enviously, but wanted OLED. Like some others saw 12 Pro Max getting even bigger and heavier so decided it was time to downsize to the 12 Pro. My only concern was the reduced screen width - I am a heavy user of Safari so was worried things would things feel cramped. You know what? I’m not missing it. Really liking the size, and appreciate the weight reduction. I have always liked having the fanciest camera, but don’t use it for anything over and above pictures of the kids/scenery when we are out and about so I am telling myself I can live without the Max uber-camera. If you are on the fence I say go for it!

Please everyone, IGNORE the comments about battery life on the Pro for a couple of days.

When you move to a new iPhone, it does a LOT of things in the background to fully set it up. It downloads iCloud backups. It indexes everything for Spotlight. It runs AI functions on your photos (face recognition etc). This takes a fair amount of time and uses power.

Battery life will be well below normal on any new iPhone that you restored a big backup to. Battery life cannot be accurately judged for a few days.

Have to say when moving from my Xs Max to 11 Pro Max, within the first full day I noticed the 11 Pro Max’s battery life being significantly better, despite it syncing it outlasted my Xs Max by quite some margin, I remember going to bed with a ridiculous amount of battery left like 50% or more left, from the first full day I had established that the battery life was amazing.

Maybe it will be different for some though going from an 11 to 12 series.

I think the people who will see battery life improvements will be those coming from a Xs or older.

too early to say about battery life. But text size is fine. And iOS allows to make the text bigger.
So far 6.1 seems to be the sweet spot. I don’t find 6.5 or 6.7 displays too large. But if the phones are heavy as well and the weight doesn’t distribute evenly they become a bit of a handful in my opinion.

This is tough! I really really like the size of the 12 Pro, but maybe since I have had the bigger phones for the last 4 years im regretting it a bit. That being said I was getting extremely tired of the max size phones and wanted something different. I think I just need a little time with it, I really don't want to go through the return process either.
My thoughts too. I’m gonna ride this year out. It’s grown on me since yesterday and comparing it to my 11 pro max I’m not missing that much for the comfort. I think what’s gotten me to most is the width.

But if battery tests on previous models were also done during the first few days, then it shouldn’t make a difference since the control variable is the same. Sure you can’t judge specific numbers but you can get a sense of whether the battery life has improved or not.

Fact is we’ve got 5g and decreased battery sizes. Makes sense the battery life is worse and I don’t see any point in making excuses. Apple had a choice between slimmer design and improved battery life; they chose the former.

I am putting the 12 Pro through the paces over the next week or so, but my initial impression is that the Pro Max > Pro transition is likely not one that will stick for me.

In my eyes the only reason to make the move to a smaller phone would be for the ability to use it one handed with more ease. Since the footprint of the Pro phones have increased this year I have noticed in my first day of use no real advantage there over my Pro Max. I still have to shuffle around the device in my hand to get to touch points on the top 1/4 of the screen. I still have to use reachability a lot to make everything work one handed. You seem to get a lot of the inconvenience of the Pro Max phone without the added benefits of the extra screen size and (for 2020) the fairly significant camera improvements.

I am going to keep using it to see if my use pattern shifts over the next week, but that is my initial thought after day 1.

Loooooong time reader / just created an account.

I have had the largest screen iPhone ever since they started offering different screen options and just upgraded from the 11 Pro Max to the 12 Pro. Only a day in but am very happy with my decision. The screen doesn’t feel too small for me at all, the keyboard doesn’t feel too small what I type (I was worried about that) and I am loving the small and lighter form factor.

I admit I probably would have ordered the larger screen size again had it been available at the same time but now that I have this one I plan to keep it :)

11 Pro Max to 12 Pro. Love the weight, how it feels in one hand and the easier one handed use. But when I'm scrolling Instagram or watching YouTube videos or webpages, I feel things are way smaller and somewhat cramped.

I have had every Plus or Max Version since the 6, with the exception of the X obviously. On the fence on what to do. I still have my 11PM and when I look at it I'm even more conflicted. Completely love the squared form factor and Pacific Blue though!
What about TikTok? lol

12 pro seems much bigger in my hand compared to 11 pro

I still don't know if it's better or worse, just...different

This is exactly my point of view. Everyone talks about the ability to use the smaller Pro one-handed, but in reality both the regular and Max sizes are too big for comfortable one hand use (without needing to shuffle it around in your hand). The only real benefit I see for the smaller phone is that it fits better in your pocket.

Definitely more compact phone. But honestly it feels like a great size. It will be interesting to see the camera reviews for the max. If they are a lot better I might buy the promax and return this pro

I loved my 11 pro max but it was just too damn heavy. The battery life was amazing but I couldn’t justify the extra weight. Went to an 11 Pro and felt it was too small but I got used to it and now I have the 12 (no pro) and it’s the perfect size!

Agreed. I’ll start the online return process in 14 day which will give me time if I decide to ship it back. If the cameras are not much better I’ll keep the 12 pro.

Fitting better in the pocket is a huge plus for the 6.1 inch over the max and is the reason I changed. I’m pleased so far

So far loving my switch from the 11 PM to the 12 Pro. The fit in the pocket and weight alone are worth the change for me. Will miss the battery life the most on the max but nowadays we have chargers everywhere so I don’t see this being a huge issue.

I went back to my 11PM and I’ll wait on the 12PM. I love the size and the camera, but it pretty much ends there. I didn’t realize that I wouldn’t have 2 column apps on the 6.1 screen, and that’s something I use often. Not excited about the Pro Max size, but I’ve grown accustom to its features.
