I really do not understand the point of many answers to my post. I know mac forums are usually populated by zealots, but come on... if I paid this MBP 900 euro I wouldn't be here describing how bad MBPs can be, if it were my 5th MBP, after four good ones, I wouldn't say anything.

You are not forced to reply to a post. Just ignore it. Forcing (or just an attempt to force) people to silence is not a good practice.

(By the way, I called applecare to ask about the various issues. In particular, about the striped display, they told me *they are not aware of the issue* and that I must go to a repair center. Even if I am not able to replicate it I need to go to that centre so that they can verify and watch the pictures I took. Isn't it funny? They have discussion forums full of similar descriptions).

I'd say you're the one who whines too much. Like everyone here has already suggested:

1) Contact AppleCare and arrange for a repair/replacement. Do it in person if you have an Apple Store.

2) Don't complain about problems you don't actually suffer from. (e.g. The screen image near the bottom of your original post)

Come on ASmallchild!!!! Is he the only one who whines too much?

What about the hundreds of posts on MacRumors, and elsewhere, of people complaining about issues on Macbook Pro, just out of the box?

I love OSX, but Apple hardware (most of it) is crap.

Haha. Expressing your negative (not even negative in this case, but "abnormal") opinions on a forum is generally always considered whining.

People come to forums like this to complain or get help. Those who have perfectly good machine rarely post about it or don't even come here. To conclusions on quality from a forum like this is ridiculous.

If there's a problem, I think it's always good to get a 2nd opinion.

He's got plenty here. Everyone is telling him to have AppleCare resolve the issue. He refuses to listen and persists in complaining.

Now that is a whiner.

I agree! I got my MBP back today after the second repair for the same issue (keyboard and trackpad stopped working). And like you wrote about your LED issue, those are severe problems not supposed to happen with a laptop in this price class. Like I wrote on another thread, I've never seen similar things happen on numerous cheap laptops of other brands. It's ridiculous! And a lot of people act like it's no big deal. I bought this machine because I need a reliable tool, and each repair has cost me a considerable amount of money in work I could not do. The way Apple treats its customers feels like they consider every customer to be some indiepop-ipod-hipster with too much money.
I really like Apple's OS very much, but I think their hardware can't stand up to its reputation anymore.

Well lets see. You have a defective Mac. You complain about it. People say why don't you bring it into Apple, you say it's a waste of time.

What are you looking at getting out of this?????

Come on, be serious. Why should I write about a problem I don't have? I can find a reason in reporting it to others, but since you ask, this is a gift for you. A picture of my wonderful pro notebook:

Happier now?

I like the people that find a problem, find a solution, then come back here to write about it. I do not like people that find a problem, come here to whine about it and ignore people trying to give a solution to the problem and continue to whine.

Which one is the solution you have proposed?

He's got plenty here. Everyone is telling him to have AppleCare resolve the issue. He refuses to listen and persists in complaining.
Now that is a whiner.

Is the same one as proposed by small child?

1. I went to the apple shop where I bought it.
2. I called Applecare.

Do you know what the answer was?
Here it is: We are not aware of such issues, Do not give it back because you might have a "refurbished" one, a new one with the same issue, or one with more defects.

So please stop saying that I am not doing anything to solve this problem.

Just to make it clear, because I love zealots as much as you love whiners.
In my original post I have only described VERY COMMON defects.

But my MBP has some more of them:
- 1 dead pixel after one week. It's not a big thing, but, please, explain why this is the only notebook I have ever owned where pixels die.
- when this MBP plays a sound, something below the left speaker vibrates.
- there is a high-pitched sound that is very annoying, but this is not a defect according to apple: part of the normal operating course of events.

The dead pixel/vibration defect is one I can expect from ANY notebook. The screen problems, WHICH ARE WAY TOO COMMON (as many other defects), should not be expected from a PRO notebook distinguishing itself from the base model (MB) mostly for the screen. Why you zealots prefer to be blind?

If you do not like whiners, simply ignore them. But, from my point of view, posts like this one are more useful than the common "I-love-this-mac-pc-suck" posts. Ok?

Today I will go back to the apple shop and "ask" again for sending it for repair or for a replacement. But I will be without a notebook for the next days/weeks: after all the money spent for this one I cannot afford buying a cheap pc-notebook. This is a good reason to consider all the defects this PRO notebook has before purchasing it.

1) Return it.
2) Repair it.
3) Live with it.

It's actually quite simple. Pick one. Continuing to whine about it here isn't going to magically fix your issues. Nor will it spur Apple into revamping their quality control. Nor will it deter those who are interested in buying it. (This is, after all, a Mac forum..........)

It is even simpler avoiding to write such answers. Could you please tell me where you read that I am not trying your options "1" and "2"? "3" is unacceptable, as even a small child would realize.

May be my goal is not very clear to you: interpret it as a generosity effort. I do not want to earn anything by describing the problems. I want to help other people in saving some time: I am just saying "wait before buying a MBP". And I am having quite a success, believe me. My problems with this MBP are still here but I came here before buying my MBP and found almost only positive reviews.

By the way, from your "this is, after all, a mac forum" (which, after all, I am aware of), I realize that I should have posted on a pc-windows forum. And that, for you, would make sense, wouldn't it?

PS. Sorry for my English, but, as I said, I usually speak in another language.

Think Before You Buy Apple Hardware Nowadays

You must be joking !!!! People MUST keep complaning (WHINING) until APPLE gets its act together. If you buy a BMW or MERCEDES, its rigth, every time, out of the box. Expensive hardware, like Apple, MUST be rigth every time, out of the box.

SO, EVERYBODY, KEEP COMPLAINING (OR WHINING, IF YOU LIKE)

Two people who agree with me. What a record.

What I think is very absurd is that posts like

"I have just bought a Mac* and it works great"

are considered more informative and useful than the posts where people whine. Further, the base MBP in Italy is 1800 euro. The average monthly salary (even of those who might find the MBP useful for their work is 1200 euro). They should live with lousy hardware... what a thought!

It seems one always has to be a bit lucky when buying notebooks nowadays. The quality can shift considerably from machine to machine, which sucks. But some persistent issues shine through, and never seem to be fixed. Apple definatly could spend more money on a better QA process and willingness to acknowledge common problems. People shouldn't just accept things too easily, and always refer to Apple Care. Whining is needed to let the target (here Apple) know that we expect better.

For Apple, we always pay a bit extra for the design, not for the hardware components. But we have the MacBook case cracking and MagSafe problems, for example. Not to mention MacBook Air overheating problems. It is really obvious that Apple didn't QA some things enough.

I always find good information from this kind of posts, just to be aware of what potential problems anyone may face when buying any :apple: product.

I really like the separation between the keys in the MacBook keyboard, and I find very interesting that the OP is complaining about the MBP keys are too close to each other, are they really annoying ?

I will go to my local :apple: store and check them out again.
I was expecting to pull to the trigger with the Penryn MBP, but now I am hesitating for the future refresh also, and I need to sort out some funding issues I have.

Also: is the illumination in the keys customizable, so I could turn them off/on as I want to?

Please refrain to post that any other similar laptop out there will have a similar or less featured keyboard.

Are you crazy? The answer might be slightly negative and you are on a mac forum. Go and ask the same question in a pc-win community!

I think that it is something you can get used to and many people do love that keyboard. Let's say that, after using it for a month, I still cannot type as fast as I wish and can on other notebooks (toshiba, sony, dell, the small lenovo x60). Anyway, when I am able to press a single key not becoming nervous, the tactile experience is by far the best I ever had on a laptop. The feeling of MB (and other non-mac notebooks) keys is toyish if compared to the MBP.

I was expecting to pull to the trigger with the Penryn MBP, but now I am hesitating for the future refresh also, and I need to sort out some funding issues I have.
(Some) People who received the laptop few days ago are still experiencing the stripe problem. You can read this:

http://arstechnica.com/journals/app...ok-pros-show-vertical-striping-display-issues

Also: is the illumination in the keys customizable, so I could turn them off/on as I want to?
You cannot turn it on when the light is "enough" (the notebook establishes that "enough"), but there are utilities allowing you to turn it on also in sunlight (why would you do that?).

When it turns on, you can turn it off or modify its "strength".

Please refrain to post that any other similar laptop out there will have a similar or less featured keyboard.

Expensive hardware, like Apple, MUST be right every time, out of the box.

I want one. One name. I want the name of ONE PC manufacturer with a 100% rating of out of the box working hardware.

If you name me one, I'll sell all of my Apple computers and buy a Gateway. A GATEWAY, for crying out loud. You have my word.

What's that you say? They don't need to have a perfect rating because their hardware costs less to begin with? Okay. You're comparing cost to craftsmanship. I see.

Ever heard of the iPod Shuffle? $50. I've not seen one thread about Shuffle issues that were due to hardware that the owner had not done themselves.

BMW or Mercedes always good? LOL. No way. every product has that there are one's that are broken, and others that work flawlessly. No product is always going to be 100% good, with everyone. And by the way, just so you know and start to understand, the graphics card isn't apple made, but from Nvidia. So Nvidia is to blame on that part, not apple. Same with a lot of the other hardware in the macbook pro.

Lol, having success? no way, i ordered a mbp even though i read your post. Most don't have problems, and you can't expect every product to be perfect, because mistakes happen. I hope you can understand and learn that

the fact of the matter is pc hardware is just as bad! It's all made in china (even IBM, now lenovo, is made in china!) It's all cheap crap! I don't know where Apple gets their hardware made, but I do know Apple is an American company, and I know the MBs and MBP's get the highest ratings by magazines like PCWorld. So, obviously, you need to send back your MBP, and get a new one. Or, as i can see you hate it so much, just go buy a freaking Dell and be happy for a year and then when it effs up and you ahve to go buy a new one, do it. Whatever makes you happy man.

Actually no, just sit here and complain for three more pages. That will help everything.
