On my second tour, I received a third screen which is better than the second and worse than the first. I have not seen the stripes in the past weeks.

Even if it looks like a new MBP is coming out, I suggest to those of you interested in buying one to read this:

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1258

Which tells you how Apple treats their customer: a problem in one of the key components (the screen) is not address. On July 17 2008, they suggest to install 10.5.3, when the current release is 10.5.4.

Do you have a screen with dark stripes? We do not care. Downgrade your os and stay quiet.

That's what the mighty producer does.
Beware of poisoned apples.

If you hate this machine so much, why don't you just get rid of it? Sell it to someone and be done with it. It's quite obvious Apple will never make it up to your level in superior computing. Find a company who does and maybe you will be happy. Personally, if I believed the stuff you are saying about a company I would NEVER own their products or talk about them again. So..I must ask, why do you keep this machine and still talk about them if it is so horrible?

For the love of all that is holy, stop feeding the trolls! This is doing nothing but giving him the attention he seeks. And bringing this thread up to the top of my search every time another post gets added. Mods/ops please lock this thread. Nothing constructive is coming of this and this is just wasting forum space/bandwidth.

Read this document (focus on 2.A). It's the only 15" around.

Poor zealot. Please consider that if I had any desire of trolling, I would not wait for a month to push up this thread with two consecutive posts (as I did, if you haven't noticed).

Frankly, trolling has a different meaning, which, by the way, you should learn before using the word.

Even if I understand that my blasfemy against Holy Apple might be disturbing for you, you cry for censorship. And that is universally disturbing, That clearly defines the person behind "skorpien".

As I have already said in a previous answer, ignore this thread. You cannot imagine how many threads and answers disturb me. But I do not cry even if I am tired of replying to answers as empty as yours.

May be for normal, non-zealot people it might be interesting to know how apple defines a "hardware problem" of the screen. It is the only reason that made me update my thread.

one, i take it you dont have Apple Care?
you need to get it replaced or take it to apple.

I dont think you should regret your decison, its a great machine and you just got a bad one. If you get it replaced that machine should last you years. Eventually saving you money over time.

and its a NoteBook. not a LapTop. (even though most would like to use it on our lap.) Thats what apple will tell you.

I just lay mine on a throw pillow..I do realize it gets a bit warm but not to the point of burning you...a good throw pillow will do the trick...

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this entire thread. lordthistle, thanks for all the information and following-up after each repair. I hope you keep sending your MacBook Pro back to be repaired until it is fixed to your satisfaction. I know I would. :)

I am by no means a zealot, but I find it amusing how you presume to know me just from one or two posts. While I understand and respect your situation of having faulty hardware, you are making it extremely difficult to sympathize. All of your posts have a condescending tone towards Apple and quite frankly it sounds whiny and bitchy. I really don't want to have this thread coming to the top of my search every time if you are going to continue in this manner. If you have an issue with Apple, take it up with them. If I were you I would request a new replacement and not take no for an answer. Hopefully you get the resolution you want, and I wouldn't mind hearing about updates if it weren't slathered with anti Apple sentiment. My experience with Apple has been great, and maybe I'm just lucky, but I see no reason for somebody to go on as you have. Anyways, best of luck to you.

None of my Macs have ever had permanent trouble with hardware.
Great

When I order a supposedly inherently flawed Montevina MacBook Pro in either one or eight days, yes, I will.
Beat you to it. I bought my MBP 2.5/15 a month ago and it's been almost perfect. Just an occasional popping noise from the sound which is annoying but bearable.
I looked through most of the links you sent and have a few things to add:-
  • The Lenovo laptops I won't vouch for. I expect the ThinkPad brand to be highly diluted now IBM aren't in charge
  • Most of those issues aren't inherent issues in terms of poor quality components.
  • One of those links was a guy who couldn't remember his BIOS password! LOL
My main gripe with Apple is that they are spending less time/money investing in good quality components than they used to. For the price point they're pushing their luck. I'm glad my MBP is OK but I'm fully aware that I did my research and bought the screen/model combination that has the least problems. I know I'd have been disappointed by a MacBook or iMac due to the screen issues. That annoys me as I'm trying to switch my fiance over to Macs as well. I hope the next product refresh brings good news.

I think you did not read the entire thread, because, after two monitor substitutions, I DO NOT have a defective machine. I DO NOT know whether or not the 'stripes' issue is gone but, after with this 3rd screen, I have not seen them for 1 month.

May be you wrote the quoted text because you think I am interested in your desires. You are wrong.

Frankly, I do not care. I am not interested in how to make your days more pleasant. Anyway, I will teach you a trick: do not click on a discussion title you are not interested in. If you don't click on it, it WILL NOT automagically open in your window.

To return on topic, I would like to summarize the problems on current-generation MBP:

- People are still receiving MBP with screens exhibiting stripes. If you don't believe the author of this thread, read here.

- Graphics drivers are still poorly implemented. You can experience graphics corruption (see other posts here) and poor scrolling (even in Finder windows, watch this this video - it is for 10.5.3 but 10.5.4 is as bad, just less often).
OS animations are not as smooth as in previous gen MBPs, with ATI cards. You cannot even watch videos on youtube (big white boxes showing up). Graphics problems appear random, but usually start when the system has been running for a long time. If you shutdown often, it's likely you will not experience this problem.

(I add this for the zealots:) Simple MACBOOKs (not pro) DO NOT have any graphics problem.

- MBP becomes hot, even with Penryn processors. I had to buy an external keyboard for using it during the summer. Its high temps are a fact: utilities like FanControl were born for that reason. Obviously, not everyone is disturbed by a hot notebook.

(I add this for the zealots:) The surface of a Macbook (even with older processors at the same clock) is much cooler.

These are the top problems in MBP. There are others.

Obviously it's not that simple or easy for those of us who were sold a lemon Macbook Pro and continue to get replacement units that are defective.

I can't speak for lordthistle or anyone else but in my case moving over to a pc is simply not an option. I've used macs exclusively for over 10 years for both work and play. I make my living on macs and everyone i work with uses macs. I run my home recording studio on a mac. I have thousands of dollars of software invested in os x.

And though i've happily dealt with my fair share of problems with mac hardware over the years, my recent MBP purchase is hands down the worst tech purchase i've ever made. I'm on my 3rd replacement and i'm still having to just live with a handful of problems that are completely unacceptable because i can't afford any more time or energy fighting with Apple.

To imply that complaints like this are just a sign of unreasonably high expectations ('Apple will never make it up to your level in superior computing') is not fair or helpful. The problems with the MBP are real and Apple's response to many people with legitimate problems has been poor.

My first Mac (MBPro 2.4Ghz) is shipping today. I hope I will have a good experience. I did not buy the Apple care.

Should I can cancel it?

I placed the ship on hold. please advise if i should cancel.
