I don't really like any of the Pros this year, the orange, I need to see that one in person. The regular 17 colors are nice, although muted yet again. So the air hit it out of the ballpark on so many levels.
Same with me.

If there had been any Pro color that I really liked, I might not even have seriously thought about the Air. But once I started thinking, the whole thing kind of snowballed. Sky blue for me this year, with matching accessories.

Part of me feels this may have been intentional on Apple's part. They must have extremely good margins on the Air with so many of their own chips, a single camera that is the same quality as the 16/17 non-pro, no Lidar etc

Do we know what kind of coating the black color uses? I’m worried about scratches and chips on the black coating. Assumed they’d mention something about it but can’t find anything. Looks so good but the white could probably be polished to remove scratches where the black can’t. Hope it’s stronger than the older coatings.

Keep in mind that even the silver is likely color treated as the raw titanium material is probably not that light

The black does look good! I went with the iPhone Air White Cloud because imo it looks clean! 🔥 Plus, I won’t be fighting fingerprints as much as I would with the black. Either way, you can’t go wrong with any color. All colors look good!
Cloud White here too. Was just on Apple website looking at it again, I know I made the right choice. I have not had a white phone in years, since the 4S I think, which replaced my 3GS that took an unfortunate trip into the washing machine and the rice trick didn't work, what we resorted to in those days!....I think all the water resistance in "modern" tech is taken for granted.

The front and back glass are both ceramic shield, ceramic shield 2 for the screen. Not sure on the titanium frame finish and how durable it’ll be. We’ll find out soon 😃
Yeah I’m curious about the frame coatings as they didn’t say anything about it. Seems like the glossy PVD coatings on the newer Apple Watches are durable but the iPhone darker coatings don’t seem to fair as well.

Maybe it’s the same PVD coating on the Air? They did say it’s the most durable iPhone they’ve ever made. The darker matte titanium coating scuff and mark and the silver comes through underneath.
Not sure how the glossy titanium will fare.

Going for a sky blue 256gb Air, ordered the Pro and Air and then cancelled the Pro when I really thought how I use the phone and what is important to me.

I like the concept of the Air and the benefits to me that it offers.

The Pro screen is just a bit small for me and the new one looks very utilitarian this time round so I’m giving the Air a go as I find 6.3 a bit small and the Max is a brick.

I’m really looking forward to getting it and having that feeling of novelty rather than the same thing in a different colour.

I would imagine it’s PVD, if the Black turns out to be DLC I’ll change my order!

This is the first time I didn't wake up early or stay up late to pre-order the new iPhone in 15 years, but I still managed to snag a 1TB Gold Air for pick up on Friday. I was thinking I wanted to see it in person before I made the downgrade from 16 PM, but I've decided that I'm just going to go for it. I guess I'm just lucky my preferred color is wildly unpopular! LOL

As for the change, I don't have any big trips planned for next year, and I have a Leica camera I can use for serious photography. My osteoarthritis in my hands means that 99% of the time I will be happier with a lighter phone.

Now we wait! Not sure I want to bother with the main delivery thread, although I usually hang out there this time of year.

Same issue with big bulky heavy phones as of late for me as my arthritis can flare up and make it difficult to use my current 16 Pro.

Can't wait for the Air - the thinner profile will mean less strength required to wrap my fingers around it.

Meloxicam anyone ?o_O

I am looking fwd to travelling with my M11-P (safari - just green :) ) and iPhone air. Really light all in a peak retrospective 5

I’m actually kinda glad the Apple Store app glitched during pre-order and I missed the 19th delivery for the Orange 17 Pro Max (now it’s showing between the 29th and 6th).

I’ll be at the Apple Store on the 19th to check out the Air in person, and I may grab that instead of the Pro Max. Saves me the hassle of returns, refunds, all that.

The Air feels like the fresh luxury pick, while the Pro is more utilitarian now—and that fake 8x optical zoom lens doesn’t do it for me.(It's digital) Still, the Orange really stole my heart… at least from some angles where you can’t see that ugly two-tone patch.

I have a Leica Q that I love and have been waffling about selling because the iPhone cameras have gotten so good that I've gotten lazier about my photography and haven't bothered to lug it on recent trips to Sweden and Italy. I think this is the universe telling me that I need to pull out my Q and get back to it.

im really concerned with the 17 pro max weight. im coming from the 15 pro max which is 221 grams and i felt it was too heavy for me even after 2 years of usage. i can't imagine using the 17 pro max and its heavier at 233 grams. i may go to the apple store within the 14 day return period and swap it for the cloud white iphone air. i can see a lot of people switching from the pro max to the air in the first couple weeks. what do you guys think?

That was another reason I pulled the trigger instead of just waiting to check it out in person. I do feel like people will feel more comfortable preordering a phone they are really familiar with, and the pro form factor has been the same for years. The Air is really new, though, and I think you will see people wait and then get it in person. Could mean stock is constrained after launch even though not so much now.

It’s not slim when you take into account the extra deep camera bump and is top heavy.

I recommend going to the store and experiencing it in person first.

I was going to get the Sky Blue iPhone Air, but then I realised the differences between the Air and the new 17 Pros:

For me, the camera is a downgrade (from my iPhone 15 Pro Max). I need the zoom options, and I love the macro photography. I cancelled my pre-order, and I'm not getting the 17 Pro Max either. I'll likely just replace the battery and live with this for another year.
The camera specs in the base 17 > Air.

The battery is the heaviest component in a phone & the weight will be balanced across the device given where the battery sits. It’s heavier than the components in the camera bar across the top.
