Apple needs some sort of a Galaxy Note 7 fiasco to humble themselves a bit. Not anything that would endanger the public, but something really stupid that forces them into clean-up mode for a bit. I say this as an Apple aficionado and Mac user since 1995; Apple and many of its consumers will continue to ride the crest of seeming invincibility until the wave breaks against the rocks. It's only a matter of time.

What does this mean exactly?

I could see something like that happening if Face ID is a complete failure. Bendgate did a tiny bit of damage but most have forgotten about that now.

Honestly, I don't think any of my friends who are Samsung fans, batted an eye with the Note 7 problem and they held onto theirs until the very end, stuck with Samsung and got the Note 8 when it came out. They may not be the typical consumer though. I know I'm not.

I managed to get a Jet Black plus last year on launch weekend and have secured launch day delivery on every previous iPhone pre-order so I am hoping that my luck continues this year.

I suspect it is Apple and other media hyping it purposely.

I would think this would work against Apple if this were their marketing. With the 8 / 8+ available and rumors they X will be hard to get people may decide to either pass completely, get an 8 series, stick with what they have, get something else and they could make those decisions before the pre-orders even start. I've had to talk my wife out of getting an 8 multiple times already. To me, if the X wasn't coming out I probably would have stuck with the 7+ and I've upgraded every year. I think many people will wait for next year if they have to wait a couple months for the X. Heck, if the next one is out in September '18 and it's going to be January or later to get an X then the wait is roughly 9 months. Apple may be removing 25% of the wait time for some people.

Pre-order anyway and then try queuingup early but not camping out. I'd also try other stores that may not get hammered quite as quickly and even my operator

Also, I don't see them wanting to purposely taking a hit on their stock which is what's happening now.

Camp out? The Apple store may not even have stock on introduction day. Maybe play with the demo phones . . . . .

i was told by my local apple store today that they would have reservation times for the 10. so they will be getting some.

no doubt in my mind ill have it launch day. thanks for the apple upgrade program you basically do everything days in advance...only thing u have to do at 3am is hit the finish button which takes like a second.

If I have to wait that long, I will keep my 6S+ (as my primary phone) one more year and cancel my Apple Watch Series 3 LTE order. I am not giving up my 9.3.3 jailbreak on my 6S+.

If it took 8 weeks, I would be fine. I don't upgrade regularly and don't concern myself with having to have everything on launch day.

I just updated my iPhone 6s to 11 and it’s just as fast as before. I think I’ll keep it and even put a new battery in (when the need comes) while enjoying the headphone jack. I may get Bluetooth phones but I still want the option.

This is one reason why I think waiting a bit to see what reactions are in real people's hands is a good idea. There are a lot of changes taking place with this phone. I don't want to be a tester if it turns out that it's not good enough for my use. That would be highly annoying.
