I assume if he produced The Book of Mormon, it'd look like an actual book.

I believe they took the Maps fiasco and his ability to alienate and piss off co-workers as a reason to fire him.

This could be a description of Steve Jobs as well..
Anyway, iOS was definitely more unique and more stable before Forstall left.
Maybe he's not the king of sympathy but that doesn't bother me at all.

Of course is newsworthy, we're talking about the father of the iPhone here. Also, everyone knows Steve loved Scott and agreed with him everytime. Tim Cook and friends took Steve's death as an opportunity to fire him.

Are you serious?

If leaks are to be believed, Tim Cook had to decide between Forstall and Ive.

Tim chose to keep the head of Design, the person who Steve said had more operational power than anyone at Apple, Steve's closest friend, his "spiritual partner at Apple".

You paint a picture that implies the opposite of what actually happened.

True about stability, but then iOS 7 and 8 have been bigger updates, and if rumours are to be believed iOS 9 will be a major attack on software bugs.

If Scott Forstall had left, and iOS updates had continued at the same pace that took us from iOS 5 to iOS 6, and Android had pulled ahead, you'd be complaining Apple had lost it's edge anyway.

At least this way there are new technologies & features, and still an incredibly stable and secure OS.

If Forstall had his way, that flyer would look something like this.

I really miss Scott's skeuomorphic design elements.

Apple IOS design is now sterile, glaring blind you at night bright white and red. Who ever thought that the current UI design was an improvement? It's horrible.

And the way he was pushed out of Apple shows that the slogan "think different" only applies to those in political favor.

I'm happy to see that the scapegoat is doing well in some other endeavor.

Yay Scott Forstall !!!

Exactly! I keep my old 4S on iOS 6 to use on wifi. I've got it sitting next to my 5S right now and seeing them side-by-side it's just maddening what a horrible disaster the 'flat' look is. The UI of iOS 6 is clearly optimized around ease of use and quick visual understanding while the new Flat iOS obviously threw all that well thought out UI engineering in the trash for the sake of half-witted concepts of style that have nothing to do with assisting the understandability or usability of the product.

Apple design has decidedly taken a wrong turn down the path of form over function. Ive may be a great computer case designer, but he obviously knows nothing about effective UI design. (And arguably he's even lost touch with practical case design - what's the point of a great looking laptop that's so thin it doesn't have room for enough ports to actually be useful?) Cook is obviously a zero when it comes to practical design and without Jobs or Forstall to balance Ive, Apple design has veered off into a ditch.

The best thing about this article is that Forstall is available to come back and fix the mess. Time to fire Cook or Ive or whoever they have to to get him back. Maybe when the wrist Edsel looses a pile of cash the board will be ready for a change.

... but a lot of the icons and artwork, especially on iOS had to go. I still use a 4th generation iPod Touch that can't upgrade to anything beyond iOS 6 and those designs are horribly dated. ... It looked great at the time but hasn't aged well at all. It just looks cheesy. ...

Can any of you excusers of Ive's flat look iOS & OSX come up with any defense other than skeuomoprphic 'looked dated'? Seriously, who gives a rat fart about 'looks dated'?? It WORED better, which is all that should matter. If it works better, then of course it will be around for awhile and of course it will start to look familiar and consistent and that is a good thing. This notion of change because something 'looks dated' is nonsense that has no place in the world of product design and is just a sign that you have no practical creativity left. If 'hasn't aged well' and 'looks cheesy' are your design selection criteria, then stick to designing women's clothing or something else where practical usability is not considered a virtue.

This guy is lost. You figure Microsoft of Google would have picked him up.

You really think Scott Forstall, the guy who actually made iOS happen, an OS that was nothing like anyone has seen before, an OS that till this day still uses the same navigation paradigms, the same home screen...etc etc like it was in 2007, will have a problem finding a job? Or that he didn't get job offers?

iOS put multi-billion companies out of business, changed the entire landscape of how we interact with mobile devices, how we live our lives. And it happened because of Forstall and the team he recruited.

Some comments here makes ones head spin.

The dude is young, presumably healthy, has a wife and kids, all the money they could ever need, and he's producing something he's passionate about. We should all be so lucky. Good for him.

I agree completely. I'm not sure why I, or anyone else at MacRumors, should care what he's up to now, though, especially when it has nothing to do with technology. It's just clickbait.

The world has been moving to 3D in all fileds (movies, TVs., etc). There are some exceptions of course, where 2D (i.e. flat design) prevails as the non plus ultra manifestation of evolution and decades old Bauhaus simplicity.
Any substantial argument other than it is Ive's fixed idea...

I don't get all the hate. As an end user of iOS, I like Forstall. I know the Apple team didn't like him, but Steve did. He saw something.

It's just a news piece. Some might be interested while others might not be. We all have a choice as to whether to click and read it or not.

How the mighty have fallen...

Ridiculous comment. Kudos to him for supporting the arts. There aren't a ton of shows that make (serious) money.

The real news here is the existence of the "Internet Broadway Database." Never heard of that until now!

Hardly news just because you haven't heard of it. It's been around for many years. Perhaps you're just not into theater?

gotta agree with you there. my iphones, used to be a joy to use. since 7 and then 8, i found myself frustrated and angry with my phones more and more and more. ended up switching a few months ago. i no longer get angry at my phone. its the little things really... like camera telling me 6,000,000 times that my location accuracy will be improved if wifi is on. im very well aware of that detail by now, iphone, thank you for making me miss the moment i was trying to capture. iOS6 told me a couple times then figured out that i got it by that point and stopped telling me. However IOS7 and 8 simply assume that im too stupid to know i turned my wifi off "accidentally" or something and reminds me of the fact. constantly.

Weird. My WiFi is off 90% of the times and the camera app has never ever told me that.

Apple Guru->Snapchat Advisor->Musical Producer-> what next? ->Walmart Greeter?

I'd love to know your thought process in equating being an advisor for one of the largest social networking apps and a producer on Broadway with a Walmart Greeter.

Do tell us oh wise one...

Apple Guru->Snapchat Advisor->Musical Producer-> what next? ->Walmart Greeter?

Just because you have no appreciation for art doesn't mean no one should. It just shows that you only value people by how much money they have accumulated.

I say kudos to him. It's a great endeavour. ( Even though I hated some of his skeumorphic designs )

Financing a Broadway play is more risky than casino gambling. Does he know what he is doing?

Shows come and go in a week based on attendance. Sounds like a project or maybe some reach of a PR action to promote Homekit.

Those greeters in front or stores have a lot of good stories when you get to know them.

Or maybe he just really love Broadway shows and musicals ? Why is it so hard to believe ? There are thousands of rich and not so rich people on earth that finance and put money into all sorts of artistic productions, because they simply love art.

He should of stayed with Apple...

So, this was why Samsung's conferences are so musical inclined..
