I don’t even see discord as a discussion point. It’s like talking about replacing the forums with a WhatsApp channel. It’s just not the same. There could be an argument to have a discord channel as a supplement.

also there’s no consideration to moving software anyway.

Of course MR could have an official Discord server dedicated for realtime chat only (like you guys need one more thing to moderate lol), it's common for many other sites these days as well.

what’s the default view for discourse? On meta it appears to be new posts.
Meta is down right now, so I cannot figure that out.

You can definitely change the default view of a Discourse forum though (whether that be categories, latest, top, etc).

Thumbs down to New Posts being the default, I don't want to see all the new posts in every single category, it's just way too broad. No biggie I changed it back.

Can you see having the typical MR heated argument (ahem..."discussion") in real time on Discord ??!?! I say that in a good way as I've been on here so long it's almost like family arguing over the dinner table, but discussing things in real time with the way we all feel strongly might just be a recipe for disaster.

I come for specific forums, and I betcha the vast majority of MacRumors users do too. This seems like a very bad idea to implement as standard, just because the dev team prefers it this way. I'd say, swap around the default, and all is well.

We may swap back while we perfect the "dynamic" view a bit more.

Seems like the default is basically new unread posts in forums that are watched, so it should at least be focused on forums that are of interest.

No the present default is all forums that aren't ignored. You can change the filter to be watched though.
I just wanted to say the way you've handled this is very professional. In the end you listened to everyone's input and made your decision based on that, either way you guys eventually decide to go it's nice to see everything being considered.

Ok.

I've flipped the default back to Forum List for now. :)

Default Change is still being worked on...but I'm seeing how to make it a little better.

For those who explicitly set a choice in preferences, it won't get overridden.

I said this somewhere else and it's really an amazing thing that the forum owner considers opinions and will make a change based on the input of one or two individuals posting suggestions. I really don't think that is norm.

Thank you. Looking forward to the optimisation.

Excellent.

And may I compliment you on the very useful thread, and helpful responses.

As the default is now Forum List, I have changed it back to the default as that is my preferred view (and map for navigating the forum).
