pardon me if i may have misquoted but seriously people are idiots acting like apple disenfranchised them because they didnt get the 512mb of ram that they are ENTITLED TO! how much ram is on that there oled zoon? wha? oh yeah... it completely sucks! what about the sandisk mp3 playe... err they all suck. the ipod could stand to still not have an update and still be the best portable computer/ mp3/ multimedia handheld device on the market. Period.
that being said, it would be nice to have 512mb but it's still the best thing out there without it. they dont owe me 512mb of ram or 128GB of memory. freaking spoiled rotten people on this forum piss me all the way off. the most undesirable character trait is the sense of entitlement these people have. i want to remove the needlessly disgruntled masses and banish them to ZUNETOPIA!

I'm with you. WAY too many selfish ungrateful people here.

512MB couldn't be that much more expensive!

According to isuppli.com, it costs Apple $13.80 for the two 256 MB RAM chips in the iPhone 4. So adding 256 MB would cost $6.90.

Interestingly enough, the GPS chip in the iPhone only costs $1.75. That's a low enough cost that Apple really should have thought of including it in the iPod. I believe the buzz around the GPS alone would have brought in enough sales for the added cost to be economically feasible.

what rat finks! not including 512 ram that we won't notice in performance terms anyway! they need to throw in a faster processor, a better camera, better display, more ram, and gps and keep it at the same price points as the 3rd gen. god, i hate apple.

</sarcasm>

Your /sarcams doesnt go far enough, apple needs to not only include all of the above but also steve jobs needs to personally hand assemble each unit and include a handwritten note about how much we mean to him.

iPhone

The standards of the iPhone sets the high expectations of all the other mobile devices from Apple.

It's double what I have on my first gen. And it has a speaker, and retina display, and can run iOS 4.1, and TWO cameras, and the a4, and the gyroscope, and it vibrates...

The list of new features goes on. The amount of upgrades Apple managed to put on this thing is incredible. It's not an iPhone, and costs less than half of one.

Amen brother/sister.

None of you will benefit with 512mb of ram.
Only reason why the iP4 has more ram is because of the 720p video recording.
Don't forget, even with multitasking, iOS apps rely on 32mb of ram.

Well there's the most nonsense I've read all day.

Guaranteed none of you will notice lack in speed or performance. Everyone just knows 512mb is better than 256mb.

Kinda bummed seeing this for those who were waiting for one of these. But honestly, I am amazed at what can be done with the 2g iPod touch, with even half that memory.

lol @ the people who actually thought they were getting iPhone 4 without the phone.

Be realistic, you iPod touch buyers got a hell of a lot of features from the iPhone 4, but it was never going to be a like for like spec comparison.

Steve Jobs is the one who said it. Blame that LIAR(not the only LIE that came out of his mouth that day). It is not an iPhone w/o the contract. Not even close. The screen...another LIE.

You fanboys can worship at his feet all you want but my knees can't take that shi*. When someone lies, it is a lie. When someone intentionally misleads, I call it a lie. Doesn't matter who that person is.

Yet again, I can't believe the amount of ignorance found in this thread.

You want 512MB of RAM? You want an IPS panel? You want a 5MP camera? You want a GPS chip? Then shell out the extra money for an iPhone 4! No matter what you say, the new iPod touch is an amazing value for money. It's like less than half the price of an iPhone 4 and has 75% of what it offers. If you still have complaints about the iPod touch, what are you even doing on a MAC forums?

I'd think that most of you should be happy Apple cut the RAM down to 256MB to reduce costs and appeal to those who don't want to shell out $800 for an iPhone 4. The choice is there, people. There's no room for your complaints.

The lack of RAM and IPS display are big deals for me. Never thought Apple would do this, not that it doesn't make sense. Paying an extra $40-60 would be better!

Unless... the low end iPod touch RAM, etc., differ from the high end to make it cheaper?

It was never supposed to be a carbon copy of the iPhone 4 when it came to specs and features.

If you allowed yourself to believe it would be, then you're to blame for false expectations.

I allowed myself to believe Steve Jobs.

This is NOT an "iPhone without the contract"

There is a reason for all of these false expectations. And that reason has a name, Steve Jobs.

I've been playing around with mine for the last 2 hours or so.

I bought the 32GB model, seemed to be the best value.

It's very fast, as fast as my iPad.

The headline is pretty negative. It should read:

iPod Touch 4G Offers Amazing 4 times the RAM of the PSP!

Really, it's the same RAM as the Sony Playstation 3... And no one seems to complain about that.

Really? Very interesting, didn't know that.

No they aren't 7. These people are fools.

Fools. Yes. Only fools believe what the CEO of Apple tells them. Everyone else can read between the lines. Fools are not fluent in Apple speak, they can't tell the difference between the truth and a LIE like fanboys can. I wish I was a fanboy so I could tell when Jobs was lying and go out and make excuses for him. But I'm just a fool.

On the bright side, does this mean Touch users get a 1GHz A4 with 256mb RAM (iPad spec) chip vs. the iPhone's underclocked A4 ~800MHz with 512mb of RAM ?

I'd be pretty silly to make 3 versions of the A4 chip, right?

The CPU spec is probably the next spec to FALL.

I'm definitely waiting on this spec before I buy.
