apple has a patent on how they can push updates to phones after they're already packed. they can do it wirelessly. it was on macrumors some time ago. that's how they push the updates to the new phones. ios 11 launched 3 days before iphone 8 came out and GM was released 10 days before launch and i can promise you that they had some manufactured iphone 8 for longer than that

I don't know if this is true, But I've been wondering this since ever. Their weekend sale is usually in millions and devices gets ready almost at the same time as the OS gets GM. Logistically its not possible to have millions of iPhone plugged in and waiting for the gm and then pack all of them send them, i mean, we are talking millions of them. Packing and shipping definitely done before GM. So they may be having some methods. Or Tim's genius in play here.

I usuelly say that too, but this year I think demand is real. Have you seen the phones . Holy **** there nice. If you think that little notch is gonna scare people away you're in for a big surprise
I think people are more likely to be surprised on how small the iPhone X will feel in hand. I see many returns due to this reason. It’s just not an iPhone 8 Plus replacement. It’s a 8 replacement.

Fake demand!! They're only saying this to create the illusion that a lot of people want the iPhone X. They may be sold out on launch day but that could mean only 50,000 were sold. Apple does this every year!

ROFL! Especially this phone this is not going be popular as some people think. So far only 45 comments on this one and it’s already worldwide members. I used to remember when at least a couple hundreds of comments on their interest on iPhone back in the day. Either the number of members declined here at Macrumors or just not a lot of people are interested on iPhone X. Hmmm!

I can't wait to see what a disaster this release is.
I don’t think it will be a disaster, but I can only say that I’m a huge Apple fan. I’ve had every iPhone almost since it was introduced. But, I just can’t make myself purchase the X. It’s too expensive and it’s too small. I ended up buying an 8 Plus due to the larger size. I want a device the size of the 8 Plus with a full bezel-less screen, but at the current price of the 8 Plus. I’d be surprised if my thoughts are not common. All other manufacturers are going bigger, whilst Apple is going smaller. I think Apple is neglecting me and other like me, and I think it’ll hurt sales.

That is my biggest fear. I've had the 6 Plus, 6s Plus, and 7 Plus. I've gotten use to having a certain size phone in my hand so there's going to be an adjustment period along with no home button.

Also remember that if you have no bezel, your hands partially cover some screen real estate, which in turn give the impression of being cramped. It’s just too small!

But this will give rise to next years’ new and improved iPhone XS and give Customer what they really wanted in the first instance!

U do realise they need less than a week to flash all launch day phones before packaging them and distributing

iOS 11 GM got released internally more than a week before The keynote

That was more than enough time for them to flash and then box them

The more important question is why Apple is sending out these iPhones Xs so early

Oh I'm sure next year we will have a phone with edge to edge design but the same size that the plus is now. But what is THAT going to cost us?

I am confident I'll have mine on 11/3. All info updated through Verizon already, going through their site/app as it is faster than going through Apple. I'll log on at 11:45 PST and start working through it.

I noticed at the very very bottom it states that this article came from "Digitimes".
So this article has no validity at all!

Update a phone that's turned off? You'd believe in anything.....

How would the phone know it's in a box so it's OK to update as opposed to in a new owners hands and therefore have to defer to the owners wishes to update?

My iPhone8 purchased last week from An Apple Store in the UK came out of the box with iOS 10. No magical update to 11 done during storage.

you mean the allegedly low supply apple preorder day hype machine running full swing
You really think this is alleged and manipulated...? Is this your first time reading about the iPhone X production?

i've been on this forum for so many iphone launches and these posts appear every year. every single year the same crap. nothing new. and it's never as bad as they're trying to make us believe. you joined the club last year so i'll give you a pass for believing everything that gets posted on here about stock and supply

I'll be surprised if the first batches don't have problems. I sort of understand the early adopter craze for this product but I think it's going to come with a fair share of headaches.
