Foxconn is expected to deliver up to 3 million of the next generation iPhone in June 2008, with a total production run expected to be 24-25 millions throughout the life-cycle of the device.

apple's selling iphone at a rate of 7-8m/year, 24-25m life-cycle would indicate an expected life-cycle of 3-4 years. yeah right...

Apple sold 10 million iPods in the last 3 months (& 1.7 million iPhones).

I expect Apple is wanting to convert iPod purchases into iPhone purchases. Apple plans on selling at least 10 million in the coming 12 months and I figure they'd expect at least double that in the following 12 months.

Which is closer to an 21 months product life cycle. I still think that's too long though.

So yea, I guess 3M is enough for a worldwide launch - US gets 2M and the rest of the world gets 1M.

I still think it'll be a WWDC announcement and launch either in late June or early July.

I think they'll skip 3G and go straight to 4G. Faster than cable... no network to run it on... doomed to fail.

it is possible for apple to to convert ipod sales for iphone sales, but not without reducing the iphone price significantly and having the operators to offer competitive prices for subscription plans (esp. outside the us).

for apple to sell 24-25m iphones / year the price needs to be at most 149 for "low end" model and 199 for the other model (+moderate pricing on plans or selling iphones unlocked). not impossible, but it's kind of difficult to see that happening.

iPhone 3G will be announce at WWDC. with immediate availability.

why?

Steve Jobs center stage
almost 1 year anniversary of the iPhone
lots of WWDC sessions are relate to iPhone
enough time to clear all the old inventory
lots of media attention to such event
Enough time for Foxconn to have a huge inventory available

I just hope we will have
8gig $299
16gig $399
32gig $499

GPS?

Really annoying

Could we please, for God's sake, just stop this iPhone nonsense. It's even worse than before the iPhone introduction. Everyday a new source is guesstimating June and WWDC. Every time it's a 'newsworthy article'.

Get that damn thing out, so I can rethink my current mobile buying decision (i.e. NO iPhone).

LOL I was wondering that... the anticipation for this next version seems to be just as great as it was leading up to the first one. Or maybe it's just me... because I don't have an iPhone and I really, really want a 3G one..

Another day, another rumor to get me salivating and wishing June was tomorrow...

Your existing model is that the iPhone costs $100 more than the iPod Touch (with the same memory capacity). There would be a nice symmetry if they could make an 8GB iPod Touch and 8GB iPhone equal prices (via a contract subsidy). They could possibly drop another $100 given the reduced costs over the last year... but that's still higher than your target.

Of course.. if Apple just sets a price on the phone and the phone providers have open-slather on their subsidies, we could see anything. And that is just what Apple said it wanted to avoid ("free" iPhones would still earn Apple money though....)

Of course, in many countries we find the appeal in Apple dropping exclusivity, the iPhone could appear on our home country networks any time. Other than that the GPS rumour is more appealing to me than 3G.

I would have bought a 2G iPhone quite happily last year, if it had been available here. Instead I bought an iPod Classic and a Nokia (with GPS). I would have happily taken an iPhone... BUT in hindsight the GPS has been brilliant.

i'd expect immediate launch after the announcement coz they would not want to loose out on nearly a month of sales.
anyway after the keynote, the kool-aid would be in full flow.
and after a few days, imagine os 2.0 being so slow to download due to so many people downloading it.

maybe directly t their phones over 3G.
that would be something.
:apple:

This might be the product that makes me buy. I withstood the first version, but now I'm chomping at the bit.

Maybe the clever engineers at FoxConn can slip a To Do feature in under the radar, since such an advanced feature is so clearly beyond Apple's abilities.

Throw in Notes syncing to while you're at it. It's just pathetic.

Omg even i'm getting sick of hearing this rumor everyday. We get it 3g iphone at WWDC. I wish they would just release things when they are ready. What i want is a MBP that doesn't get as hot as the sun.

I remember the days when these forums had such a happy vibe...

u think the rate won't increase?
yeah right...

introducing 3g iphone while maintaining current pricing + sales model? no, the sales will not grow nowhere near those numbers.

it's worthwhile to notice that apple was among the cell phone manufacturers that lost market share during the first quarter, the other manufacturers losing market share being motorola and sonye.

Just wait a little longer, powerbook G5s are coming in June!!! I can just feel it this time.

It could be the other way around (US gets 1M, the rest 2M), being that 3G is way more widespread in Europe and Asia than in the US, thus a 3G iPhone would sell a lot faster on those 2 continents.

No, it if is is split 2:1, it will be U.S. 2, Other 1. There are many reasons for this, including the stimulus checks.

I can't wait for the 3G iPhone, but don't they have file something with the FCC first?
