Not even going to read most of these posts because they are probably just idiotic statements made by people with nothing better to do. From what it seems, you all are very unhappy with your lives.

Yes, he should.
Time is immeasurable and to be waiting for an iPhone 4 like that is pretty crazy but hell if I could I'd do it. Sounds like he's having fun with what he's doing. :D

Imagine the precedent that would be set if they did that. These people would start lining up earlier and earlier in hopes of getting the latest Apple product for free.

I'm sure Apple likes the publicity from this, but at some point it has to make them nervous. This guy's sitting outside the store for a week. Everyone knows he's there. That's a liability for Apple if something happens to the guy, especially if he's on their property as it appears that he is.

I imagine Apple tolerates the lines because their customers like them and it's good publicity, but that they don't want to actively encourage them.

He doesn't deserve a free phone. Since he's gotten there, there has been so much news coverage that extra staff had to be put in place just to make sure he wasn't killed during his little "experiment". While those people could be helping others, they're keeping eye on a selfish man who's just sitting there all day doing nothing. He's wasting tax payer money and I think next year because of him, Apple are going to enforce new pre-order rules.

No, he doesn't deserve anything free, he's wasting his city $1,000 everyday he stands there waiting. And if he's getting FREE power from the store, well, that's just stupid. He's not entitled to it. There wasn't anything wrong with just telling the guy to go home until the 24th which SHOULD have happened. For all we know, this guy could be there to screw people over by getting social security numbers that people are leaving via some microphone in there, or abusing the wifi.

Sad to see that he's in Dallas too, at least he's not where I'll be getting my phone. But definitely, if I was the manager at that Apple Store, I'd ask him to leave. It's been 100+ degrees outside all week, EVERYDAY. It's not even HEALTHY to be sitting out there. Since that store is liable for anything that happens to him, I wouldn't risk it.

I seem to remember people camping out for the original iPhone release. Anyone know if the first person to camp out for that phone got it for free? Just curious. I know that guy was all over the gadget sites and news for being the first person.

If he devoted that week to having a job, he wouldn't need a freebie. Don't reward the dregs of society.

If he used vacation time for this, he needs to be kicked in the nuts. Either way, no free crap for him. None of you were rewarded for clicking on the Apple website for 16 hours trying to pre-order the phone. Other than having the right to spend YOUR MONEY.

i love how people automatically judge him based of invalid assumptions about him....

k lets put it this way, do we talk bad about people who go out in the wilderness for days to go hunting? I dont hear people say no they are idiots theres a food store right around the corner why do that?

just because someone does something that may seem stupid to you, may be an adventure for him.. what if he cant afford a vacation to go somewhere, whats wrong with the adventure of camping out in front of a store meeting tons of people. i bet its a lot better than staying in the basement all day bashing people on the internet cause you dont have a life either..

just my opinion

Oh he can afford a camping trip parks are free he has a tent a week supply of food and about to buy a 300 dollar phone and a sh*tload of time in his hands

I haven't bothered looking if he's had some regular personal hygiene breaks, but I would find it awfully funny if they didn't let him in the store because he was a little too ripe from camping there.

No, I read what you wrote just fine. Maybe you did not understand what you wrote. When you give Person A a discount that isn't available to an entire class of people then they had to "deserve" it, or they wouldn't be singled out for the "reward." What I was, and am still, asking is what did this guy do besides sit on his ass for a week to deserve a discount the rest of us are not entitled to? Please, just give me a well formed, logical answer.

Personally, I cringe at the thought of people being rewarded for unremarkable and stupid feats. I think doing so is depraved. If Apple wants to give iPhones away, or discounts there are plenty of real heroes they can find and probably would be appreciative. That is my position, what is yours?

Also, I'm not twittling my thumbs on a sidewalk, no. And I won't be doing so either on Thurs. Through the magic of computers I can do my work at home just fine.

I'm not saying he must get a discount, however I think it would be cool of Apple to give the guy a small discount for sitting out for a whole week. In that case it's a win-win for Apple (Press Wise) and Justin. Anyways we'll agree to disagree.

Better Idea

Free iPhone for Mac Jones (minus the question marks)

I'm not camped out but it's pretty stuffy in here.

I'd lose all respect for Apple if they gave him a phone. How many people who are actually contributing to society can't afford to camp out for a week long publicity stunt. Hells no he shouldn't get a free phone.

Maybe he's a hard worker and is using PDO's. If I could stand it I might would do the same one day but I'm too ADD. Some people have hundreds of PDO's and they are just taking some time to do something that makes them happy. Because YOU think it's ridiculous doesn't mean he's does. Don't chastise somebody for their hobby.

But what about all the publicity he's giving Apple. Isn't that worth something?

Cheers.

What about all the publicity people trying to pre-order gave Apple? Shouldn't they get something?

Their dedication to Apple/iPhone was so great they brought down servers and put Apple on every major news site/station, it was talked about everywhere. Isn't that worth something?

Don't reward them for it either.

Where is my free iPhone for preordering my iPhone the 15 and helping bring down the servers? Where is my discount? Ot free case?

Sure, give him one. They're already being very gracious to him as it is.

Hell no he shouldn't get a free phone. No one forced him to sleep on the street for an entire week to get the new phone. He had a reservation already, so it's not like he was in dire need of lining up first. He's gotten everything he should get from this stunt - news coverage and the adoration of the Apple cult. That should be all. If Apple caves and gives this guy a phone, then the next nut will line up 2 weeks in advance, then 3, and they'll pull even more outrageous stunts to show how much they worship Apple. That's not good.

Honestly, the manager of the store should have told him to go home last week. The heat down there is ridiculous, and if he fell ill or died on their property, they could be sued. That's a potential headache that they don't need. I wouldn't have allowed anyone to camp on the premises until Wednesday night after the store closed.

I tell you what Apple should do. They should make him stay. They have given him stuff to make sure he is fine out there. I would make him stay as the Apple Mascot and he can not move till the next Apple product is released. Then if he does Apple can pay him with the new product as a thanks for being their mascot.

Such hostility.

The guy is able to do what he wants. I say give him a phone. Why not? Because people will camp out in hopes of getting a free one? I doubt many people have the ability to give up a week of work, school, family. He has that ability.

Would I expect him to get a free phone? Nope. Though I'm not going to be on his case if he does.

Blonde Buddhist

I think Justin is entitled to do what he wants and believe that he's doing this for fun. I support him in his endeavor.

However, I do not think he earns a free or discounted phone from this as the camping was *his* choice just as it was my choice to stay home and wait for Fedex.

Free choice does not mean free phone. :D

this.....

i enjoy reading justin's posts of his little adventure.... but i don't think that apple should give him a free iphone (heck... didn't i read in his thread that people are calling the store to buy him gift cards to use toward purchasing his phone? he's probably gonna get it free anyways... but i don't think that apple should be the ones giving him one.)

WOW.....

hostile much????

i don't understand how he's costing tax payers any money??? the only thing i read was that the APPLE STORE hired him security... that sure doesn't translate to tax payer dollars!
