It is possible that Netflix has an app and it is awaiting approval, and that is why they aren't saying anything, but the fact remains that the leak claimed that it was an approved app, and it isn't. We no longer have to speculate about that since the iPad apps are now live in iTunes. You can search for yourself.

Do we know for a fact that every app set to go live in the app store on Saturday can be found today? The iBooks app is not there either, after all.

Not sure. Everything I've searched for is there. As far as iBooks, it isn't listed on either AppShopper or AppAdvise.

Honestly - if this is an April Fool's joke, it's the best I've seen. To dupe the entire tech media, including the Wall Street f***ing Journal is a coup, to say the least. I mean Netflix's shares have risen 2.2% on this already. Not to mention the cutesy response from one of their execs - who I'm certain would otherwise not be in on a prank like this.

Wouldn't Apple have removed the pics from their server, if they were fake, by now?

I agree with you though, if this is indeed a joke, it doesn't reflect well on media for reporting it as fact.

I don't think this is an April Fool's joke, I think it's a leak that wasn't supposed to come out until Saturday.

It wouldn't be a good joke, because it is 100% plausible and would just make them look like idiots. They would have denied it if it wasn't true.

An April Fool's joke is supposed to be on the ones believing it, not on the ones telling it.

What a ridiculous post. It's not even logical.

The timing of the announcement, as well as the lack of any word from Netflix is fueling the doubt, not this juvenile "haters" crap. No one is hoping that it doesn't get released (which is the only way "haters" would make any sense whatsoever here).

It was some pretty sarcastic commentary on the psychology on why people are pulling so hard for something to not be true.

Sorry but there is no Netflix app. The ipad apps are up on itunes and its not listed.

I didn't see iBooks either, unless I missed it.

Netflix on AppleTV, please.

But the actual ATV hardware does not support ,or is not capable of processing streaming Netflix right?

I wonder if this app will have video out to your flatscreen, like the iPhone?

You'd be better off buying a Roku.

1. Who wants to keep getting up to control the device.
2. The iPad only spits out 1024x768 video …native 720p video will look much better.
3. No need to worry about battery.

ISnt their streaming library crap? Good news anyway, but I want the A and B list. Not the F list.

Their streaming library is quite good …and getting better. The "no good titles" stereotype needs to die. It's no longer true.

like i said , cleary a joke...u start the rumor mill and it will eventually hit all news (gizmodo , etc) but like i stated , just because its on apple servers doesnt mean its really happening...infact i will prove this..im gonna make a mock hulu app for the iPad and upload screenshots into apple servers using my dev account and link it back here...and it will definitely be plausible because as cualexander there strongly believes, its legit...brb
Can't wait to see you do that.

I know it's been posted as a link, but, for those who forgot, this was the Netflix CEO in January:

"It's not a huge priority for us because we're so focused on the larger screens," Hastings said. "Until we get our TV ubiquity and our Blu-ray ubiquity and we're getting close on video game ubiquity, then we would next turn to the small screen. So it's something we will get around to, but it's not in the near term."

This just doesn't make sense. I'm holding on for Netflix confirmation, now.

That was in January. When was the iPad full announcement? At the time he was more talking about the iPhone. Also recently they shipped Wii Discs, which means they have video game ubiquity.

Also the iPad is a device everyone now knows is clearly designed to deliver high quality video, and thus there is no real conflict with what he said then and them having an iPad application ready for release.

it tells me they shortly realized that this would be a huge boon for them. They obviously were not sure at that time they could have something ready, so there would be no reason to let the cat out of the bag only to get negative press and see your stock price drop when you don't deliver it.

Better to get a massive amount of free press and a boost when your application shows up on day one of the iPad launch.

Netflix is a well-run company, so this doesn't surprise me at all, and that he said that back in January does not preclude this from being real at all.

Any developer can submit screenshots to Apple's servers. A few pages back someone uploaded this one.

Means nothing since the app shopper site pulls all the app information from the feed/database, not just a screenshot.

If that guy can show an official hulu app in the data base with all the relevant data, then he would have a point. Just throwing in a random screenshot does not disprove anything, because that is not what this information is based on.

It is based on the full listing of data in the database for applications.

Someone who makes pull my finger apps can't just claim to be netflix and get an app approved and entered into the database on their behalf.
