Also, I find it interesting that I can find just about every iPad app listed in AppShopper on the iTunes Store, EXCEPT for netflix. The only thing that makes me doubt my belief is what PCWorld says - you can see the netflix for ipad screenshots on official apple servers: here and here.

Any developer can submit screenshots to Apple's servers. A few pages back someone uploaded this one.

ZOMG! its the iHuluPad !

It's quite possible that Apple is planning on some surprise announcements for this Saturday - with the Netflix deal being one of them. Hence the lack of press from Netflix.

This would go along with the cryptic statement given by the Netflix exec.

This article seals the deal for me that the app is real:

http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2010/04/01/coming-attraction-netflix-on-the-ipad/

According to a person familiar with the app, the free Netflix program will allow the company’s subscribers to stream videos to the iPad from Netflix’s popular Internet movie service.

This is the Wall Street Journal reporting on it, obviously a major media outlet, and they have a source familiar with the app. Therefore its not some prankster just uploading a picture of a fake app. They also report that an iphone version is also in the works, but won't be out for a few months.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7D11 Safari/528.16)

My question is, "where's the iPHONE app for this??" :(

Nope. I'm not buying an iPad so it's fake.

I e-mailed Netflix and asked for a confirmation...

No comment from Netflix except to say today is April Fool's Day, tomorrow is Good Friday and let's see what Saturday brings.

WSJ is solid. I'm really starting to believe this now.

What a ridiculous post. It's not even logical.

The timing of the announcement, as well as the lack of any word from Netflix is fueling the doubt, not this juvenile "haters" crap. No one is hoping that it doesn't get released (which is the only way "haters" would make any sense whatsoever here).

Sorry but there is no Netflix app. The ipad apps are up on itunes and its not listed.

I'll say agin, as someone who works for Netflix, the app is real. And yes, you do come off as "hating". Just ponder for a moment, that maybe we here at Netflix didn't think this news was sprouting out today and we all walk into the office a little confused as to whats up. Jeez man, you do come off as hating. The app is real, and iPhone/Touch app will soon follow. Chill a little, believe it and stop trying to figure out the mystery when there is none. I hope you'll be enjoying the app soon.:D

Who says the app was supposed to be ready on launch day? I dont even think the rumor said launch day, just that we were making one

"Hating" is such an absurd term that's thrown around so casually these days. Look man, I think it's likely a harmless and funny April Fool's joke. No more, no less. I hear what you're saying, but it's April 1st and I have no idea if you work for Netflix or not, good man. If that's considered "hating", then this board is too juvenile for my tastes. I think this is all supposed to just be good fun.

The front page article here on MR says:

The Free Netflix application will be available in the iPad App Store on launch.

Again, if it's a real app, more power to you and congratulations on getting it out the door. But there's no harm in thinking something's an April Fool's joke. It ain't that serious. :D

I don't think anyone is doubting that an app is in development, but the evidence points to the leak of Saturday availability as being faked. Everything on AppShopper and AppAdvise EXCEPT Netflix is showing up on iTunes now. If it had been approved then it would be showing up on the store as well. The ABC app is there as well, so I was wrong and it is indeed legit.

To be more clear, for it to show up on AppShopper it would have to be approved already, as it supposedly only lists approved apps. So, to be absent from the actual store, when everything else listed shows up, indicates something isn't legit.

Honestly - if this is an April Fool's joke, it's the best I've seen. To dupe the entire tech media, including the Wall Street f***ing Journal is a coup, to say the least. I mean Netflix's shares have risen 2.2% on this already. Not to mention the cutesy response from one of their execs - who I'm certain would otherwise not be in on a prank like this.

Wouldn't Apple have removed the pics from their server, if they were fake, by now?

Has anyone considered that maybe it got leaked ahead of time by mistake?

They knew better than to announce something like this on April Fool's Day, so they planned to wait until Friday. That's why there hasn't been any official press release from Netflix...because maybe they knew it would cause an uproar with everyone questioning whether it was real or not.

There were supposed leaked images of it in the App store. So unless Apple is holding it out then its not going to be there.

It is possible that Netflix has an app and it is awaiting approval, and that is why they aren't saying anything, but the fact remains that the leak claimed that it was an approved app, and it isn't. We no longer have to speculate about that since the iPad apps are now live in iTunes. You can search for yourself.

Crap.

I had no reason to get in an iPad right away, and they go ahead and do this.

FML.

Yeah, Netflix shares rising because of an April Fool's joke would be pretty humorous. That has to be illegal, right? Someone could've made some money buying some Netflix stock yesterday and selling high today.
