If its in the app store, doesn't it mean Apple approved it, and I know they wouldn't approve a netflix app unless it was officially submitted by netflix.

Also, here's a list of 1350 ipad apps that are supposed to be in the app store on April 3rd:

http://appadvice.com/appcollections/view/ipad-apps

I looked through and netflix is there. So I'm leaning towards it being a real app. I don't know exactly how appadvice gets its info, but if it has access to a genuine listing of approved apps, it seems the netflix app is real.
My thoughts exactly …I don't think an April Fools prank is worth losing your job over.

Here's an interesting article on whether netflix for ipad is real or an april fools day joke. They actually called netflix and netflix first said no comment on rumors, and then called back and gave a cryptic response. They never denied the app was real. Read for yourself,

http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/netflix_for_the_ipad_april_fools_joke_or_breaking.php

We gave Steve Swasey, the VP for Communications at Netflix, a call this morning and he said that the company doesn't comment on rumor and speculation. He then called us back, adding that "Today's April Fools Day, tomorrow's Good Friday - let's see what Saturday brings."

Hmmm....that's not a denial. I doubt Netflix would be screwing around here, unless the story was real. We'll see...

I work for Netflix. Out of our Beverly Hills office. I am actually a website coordinator here. Trying to remain anonymous the most I can, the app is real. Promise you that. I've been here for 3 years now, helped with the xbox app now I work on the instant watch side of the company. Don't believe me if you want. But I have no reason to lie.

Then why the lack of an announcement or promotion? This is the kind of app that you would imagine Netflix would talk about until they were blue in the face. Very strange.

Fake.

Let me put it this way. MacRumors always treats rumors with a grain of salt. There is no official information from Netflix on that AppAdvice site. Naturally, MR would point that out and say it's a rumor. They then say its authenticity is CONFIRMED via AppShopper?!?! AppShopper is run by Arn! And future apps aren't posted on AppShopper. Only apps that get put into the App Store are then put on AppShopper. Then of course Arn ends it this way: "The Free Netflix application will be available in the iPad App Store on launch." So definitive. When there's no definitive information. You acted out of character, but the AppShopper thing really gave it away.

Arn, you gave it away too easily. Nice try though.

I honestly don't know why it hasn't been "officially" announced. But I promise it's real. I've been part of the instant watch team since we started that part of our service, I've seen people working on this app(for a while, our intent was to do a wifi only version for the iPhone). I dont work in our marketing or PR, so I wouldn't know why. I work in the website side of things. I've been in the Beverly Hills office 3 years now, I helped with almost all our instant watch apps. Especially the XBOX one. But I promise. If I hear anything that's not confidential I'd gladly share it with my macrumors buddies. Take me for my word, I know it's the internet but Im no fibber :)

I can add this though, that we've been working on a Instant Watch ONLY PLAN. Basically we'd offer a plan that would only let you stream from our instant watch. You'd get no DVD's by mail. Just the ability to stream. It's a good idea, especially for apps like this or the xbox or ps3.

Real as in, it will be ready for Saturday, or just that it exists, period?

It does exist, but again I dont work in that area of our company. So I can't say if it will/won't be available Saturday. They fill us in on some secrets, unfortunately not all the details. We've had people, hired specific people to work on our "apps" for a while now, I know they're always busy and never leave their offices. Unfortunately the department I work in we're not on a high level, we're just avergae Joe's who do web work, like most of our employees. Its a great company, but sometimes, they remain tight lipped, especially since we basically lease all our content. Alot of the time we have to stay mum because of the film studios we're involved with. But I can say I know we've been working on an iPhone/iPod Touch app for a while, I guess they chose to focus it all on the iPad when we all caught wind of it.

And future apps aren't posted on AppShopper.

How do you explain the entire iPad section? They aren't "future" apps. They're iPad apps already approved and in the store. They show up via the XML feeds sites use to crawl content, but just don't show up in the actual store to purchase yet, and won't until Saturday (possibly Friday night like the first App Store showed up a day early).

Jesus Christ, people, grow up. This is not fake!

I think people just can't believe it, since it seemed unlikely that there would be any netflix app for awhile. There also had been no rumors about it being released until today as far as I know. Combine that with it being April Fools Day and Netflix not announcing anything officially, and people are skeptical.

I think until Netflix officially announces it, or someone actually downloads it from the app store on saturday, alot of people won't truly believe it.

Netflix Streaming Selection Sucks

The last time i checked netflix selection of streaming movies sucked

Can't blame us hear at Netflix, we can't control what the studios let us have. But basically you're not very accurate though. To defend the company I work for, we have an awesome selection of TV Seasons, and yes we do have a great selection of Films(watched Wall E with the nephew the other day) We have good films, you have to learn how to search our system to find the goodies :D

Okay, fine, but AppShopper can't "confirm" the authenticity of an app. That's what gave it away. Not to mention that his source that CONFIRMS AUTHENTICITY is a site which ARN RUNS! Duh.

That fact, along with the poor screenshots, is what leads me to not believe it. I'd be happy to be wrong though. I'm surprised at how quickly this is spreading around the net as official, though.

I don't believe Arn would intentionally mislead us. He's stated in the past that he doesn't pollute the front page with April Fool's jokes. Also, what would appadvice's motivation be to mislead us? People would be so pissed off at appadvice that they would lose a lot of their readership.

So if it is fake, both sites genuinely think its correct in my opinion.

I for one, think it's real. The rest of the app directory looks too legit to be fake.

ABC is definitely real. Steve Jobs is on the board of Disney. Disney owns ABC. Ipso facto ABC would definitely work with iPad.

I guess we will only know for sure on Saturday...

Also, I find it interesting that I can find just about every iPad app listed in AppShopper on the iTunes Store, EXCEPT for netflix. The only thing that makes me doubt my belief is what PCWorld says - you can see the netflix for ipad screenshots on official apple servers: here and here.
