Yo jxself!,

I've never had anything to do with adjusting firewall settings, l had a quick look at Mac help, l would welcome some specific instructions, if you have the time?

Cheers,

DJO:) :)

OK; sure. How are you connected to the internet? What is plugged into what? Are you using a router or anything? If so, what is the make & model? Describe your internet setup with as much info & detail as possible. :)

And, if you're using OS X's built-in firewall (located in System Preferences -> Sharing -> Firewall), turn it off.

The Details

Hi again!

thank you for being prepared to help. I will try to describe my setup as best l can:

I believe l have a Broadband connection. I connect using a Nokia DSL modem (router?)

In System Preferences -> Network->Network status, It says:
"Built-in Ethernet is currently active and has the IP address: 192.168.1.3. you are currently connected to the Internet via built-in Ethernet"

when I go to the show built-in Ethernet screen, under the TCP/IP tab it shows:

Hopefully this is the info you need.

Cheers,

DJO :) :)

Model number

Hi, unfortunately l cant get at it myself just now. I am in a wheelchair and it is not somewhere l can reach. Either l can wait till my partner gets home from work and she could have a look, or I went to the Nokia Website and going by the photographs they have, it is either a M1122 or MW1122.

Is this close enough or do you want me to check it out when I have some help?

Cheers,

:) :)

OK; That helped.

Check out http://dsl.nokia.co.nz/

Grab the manual - it looks like both models are sufficently similar. Info seems start around page 40.

Forward ports 6881 - 6889 (the manual seems to call these "pinholes") to the IP you see in system preferences (which looks like 192.168.1.3 from the pictures you posted)

If that doesn't work, forward all ports (everything from 1 to 65536) to 192.168.1.3.

hmmm....

feeling like the class dunce now,

ok, got the manual, not sure what I'm looking for exactly...

when you say "Forward ports 6881 - 6889 to the IP "... Is this something l do on the modem or in the mac OS?

apologies for my lack of knowledge!

DJO :) :)

on the modem or in the mac

In the modem. Most block incoming connections, which causes grief with BitTorrent.

Go to http://192.168.1.1

Click on Services, and make sure that Names is highlighted.

Enter something like Torrent for the name. The protocol should be TCP and UDP and then plug in the starting & ending port ranges.

Click on Add New.

This will define these ports in the modem.

Then, move along to NAPT and select the service name you created earlier from the Service pop-up menu.

Plug in the IP address of your computer into the LAN address field (the IP address you saw in System Preferences: 192.168.1.3.) Leave WAN port empty. Click Add New.

Click on the Restart button and restart your modem.

You may also need to quit BitTorrent and try downloading again.

Nitty Gritty...

Okay this looks challenging...

clicked on the link and oops:

Not sure what to put here. Tried my username and password but no joy ...?

I'm checking out page 66 in the user manual. Looks like if one hasn't been established, a password is still requested but not required.

Are you able to login without entering a username & password? Give it a try... Leave the username & password blank & try logging in.

stage 1-success

I actually tried to login without entering a username & password already

but I just tried again and and lm in!

odd... anyway, l shall continue on

:)

Error?

Hi,
ok l followed your instructions and have got an error message,

1."Click on Services, and make sure that Names is highlighted.

Enter something like Torrent for the name. The protocol should be TCP and UDP and then plug in the starting & ending port ranges.

Click on Add New.

This will define these ports in the modem."

did that.

There is a dot at the end of the IP address and there shouldn't be. Should be just 192.168.1.3 with no period at the end.

And now...?

ok,

forgive the baby steps but I want to get this right;

which Restart button? DSL?

Wow... The entire game has been downloaded over 20 times since yesterday afternoon and still going strong. (And at 1.43GB a piece that's alot of data.)

As of this morning I'm still the only seeder, though.

Please help me to conserve bandwidth: Once your download is finished, leave your BitTorrent window open and remain seeding to assist others with their download. Thanks! :)

Am l jinxed?

Hello again jxself!

Man, sorry for continually coming back to you!

I clicked on Full Restart and got the following:

https://forums.macrumors.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=35168&stc=1&d=1132601324

I went through the Network diagnostics, it does some scanning, and eventually says my connection is ok.

It is encouraging to hear that you are getting so many downloads, it shows it is working well for some.

After all the time l have spent trying to get the game, l sure hope it is good.

Cheers,

DJO

Yeah; you would have lost your internet connection for a few moments while the modem restarted. Shortly thereafter it should have come back up online. Has that happened yet?

Yes

indeed, my internet connection, seems to be functioning okay soon after.

Does this mean that it has successfully made the change?, and if so should I see an increase in activity in the download of the bittorent?.

I quit the bittorent program, and restarted it . The free space 2 is still showing 0 seeds in 0 peers.

Your thoughts?

by the way, I appreciate your patience!:)

I have none. The hard part of troubleshooting like this is not being able to pick up on unknown variables. I'll work on making it available for you to download through a more traditional method. (I'll send you a PM.)

greatly appreciated

hello there!

Your alternative solution, would be excellent if it is possible.

Many grateful thanks for being so accommodating.

Kind regards,

DJO

:) :)

my torrent download stopped with 30 MB remaining... anyone willing to seed for just a wee bit? :)

a little while ago a few seeds finally showed up and i managed to get the last bit... thanks though :)
