The real reason Apple does not want to allow side-loaded apps is so that Apple can make sure no one else can monitor what Apple is doing on the device, whether for itself or some other organization. Side-loading breaks that and I would guess that neither Apple or others want that.

so basically you just want to do illegal stuff got it
Enlighten me. How does one do something illegal with an emulator?🤔

That you think emulator = illegal stuff reveals more about you than the person wanting an emulator.

By your logic, Home Depot/Lowes/Menards should ban the sales of pry bars because thieves can use it to break into people's houses. Who cares if it's an essential tool for contractors to do demonlition work.

Wow. If only these devs could choose to not work with Apple. I wonder how many guns Apple held to their heads to force them to develop for iOS?

you're perfectly welcome to move to a lawless nation if that's how you want it to work. might i suggest somalia?

seriously, i don't understand why people keep parroting the same debunked argument over and over again. this isn't an all or nothing type deal. it's really not that complicated.

I'll never understand people with this mindset. So you want a worse experience on IOS because you back apple so hard? You want people to stop making apps on IOS, and remove it from the app store so you cannot use it at all, and only android can? Makes no sense at all.

At the risk of being controversial I think Apple should control the App Store, and indeed I think Google should control Google Play.
These companies spend millions building the infrastructure to manage app delivery etc and trying to ensure apps are safe, why should they not be able to profit from them?

If Netflix or Amazon buy a film no one criticises them if they keep it as an exclusive.
And no one bit buys one brand of car then complains they can’t buy it with a different brand engine.
I know that’s not a perfect example but hopefully close enough.

No one forces me to buy Apple products, I choose to because I like their eco system and products.
Having made that decision I’m happy that I have to use Apple App Store etc.
Apple make their products, I have no issue with them profiting from them if people choose to use apps, films, music etc.

I am not saying fees and charges are right, but the environment is one I’m happy with.

Probably loaded to the gills with AAPL and will back literally anything that helps their dividend.

EDIT: Like the one reacting to this post.

....Microsoft and Sony stores on consoles are the same as the iOS App Store.
The big difference is is that I have a multitude of outlets to get games at for those consoles. I don't have to use their stores.

If I want games on my iOS devices, I have only (for now at least) one outlet.

It's interesting that the app store has been around for 15 years and now suddenly it's a problem.
It's also interesting that few people in the world gave a crap about Apple until they became one of the most valuable companies in the world. It's almost as though those same people are saying "Where's my share?"

Yeah, almost as if nobody would care about iOS at all if it wasn't for the third party software.

As if Apple benefitted enormously from third party developer support and shouldn't be allowed to set abusive terms for them.

No it will not give any hackers the advantage, unless the phones owner opts into it. This is why there is never any balanced discussion. You want your phone secure, then don't opt in. Others have other priorities and knowledge.
Who says it will be "opt in"? You have a lot of people in all generations that are less than tech savvy. This will lead to scams and hacks 10 fold.

I wonder who benefited more from the App Store arrangement, Apple or the millions of developers that would not have existed before Apple decided to Allow 3rd party apps on their platform. So many forget that the original plan was for 3rd party apps to use webapps not native APIs.

Apple store belongs to Apple and Google Play stop belongs to Google/Android Market. I hate when the government gets involved in tech companies' business models.
Yes! How dare the government intervene against corporation’s abusive practices. We should let companies, including our beloved Blackrock from being interfered with. After all, it is their business model :)

If you buy a TV, you're not walled-into only watching Netflix movies. You can plug in whatever device you want and watch whatever you want.

If you buy a speaker, you're not walled-into only listening to the music that a single service sells.

Even if you buy an Xbox, you're not required to buy games on the Microsoft Online Store, you can buy from Game Stop, from Amazon, from Walmart, wherever you like
