I think it's one of the countries that cares the most. Carbon emissions are low, public transportation is developed. Can not even be compared to the US..
Lol what? The US has reduced carbon emissions by 10% since 2000...that’s 20 years of booming growth in the US that has had zero gain in emissions. Turn your attention to China and their 200%+ increase or India‘s 150% increase in the same time period.

Some people, I swear.

Can't believe how many people on here are buying into the apple BS about the environment. It saves them money. Its as simple as that. They are charging the same price for the phones and giving us less. I couldn't care less that I wouldn't get headphones or a charger with a new iPhone but i'm not stupid enough to get my knickers in a twist that France is telling them to include headphones. OMG the environment. How many of the people on here live in the US and drive cars that would bankrupt most people in Europe simply from the amount of fuel they use? How many people slapping apples back are flying around the world a few times a year.

I'm glad apple is doing what it does with regards to the environment but don't kid yourself that they aren't contributing to global warming massively like every huge company.

I'm French and I would prefer a 20W power adapter rather than EarPods.
Law can be weird sometimes.
The French law is that earpods need to be included because of the possibility that making normal phone calls might affect your brain. If you find a reason why not including power adapters might affect your health in a negative way...

I'd charge extra for the phones with EarPods, and try to get permission to deliver without them if (a) the customer comes into the store with a pair of earphones in their hands, or (b) the customer decides to purchase more expensive earphones. Pointless to force them to pay for a €20 set of earphones when they want to buy a €50 set.

I think that the prices are really more interesting in other countries :
in france :
iPhone 12 64 Gb : 909 € (1 078 US $) --> 909 $ in USA
iphone 12 Pro 128 Gb : 1 159 € (1375 US $) --> 1159 $ in USA
Every single time... Ever heard of VAT? EU prices include VAT. US prices do _not_ include state sales taxes.

I have mine from my iPhone 11 pro and chargers from previous phones that I've kept but I'll be using my 11 pro charger to charge my iPhone 12. Remember the new iPhone 12 uses Lightning cable to charge so nearly everyone and their grandmas have lightning cables. You don't need to use the USB-C cable that comes in the box if you already have a lightning cable.
Most websites that discuss this actually don't understand what is going on at all.

You can charge an iPhone 12 in two ways: Using a USB-A charger with a USB-A to lightning cable, or using a USB-C charger with a USB-C to lightning cable.

Everyone who owned an iPhone 5 to iPhone 11 has a USB-A charger and a USB-A to lightning cable and can charge their iPhone 12 out of the box.

Everyone who owned an iPhone 4s or older or a Samsung or Huawei or whatever phone has a USB-A charger and needs to buy a USB-A to lightning cable, same as they would have to if they got an iPhone 11 without charger and cable.

Everyone who has a USB-C charger can charge with the included USB-C to lightning cable out of the box, taking advantage of the higher charging speed of USB-C. That could be someone owning a different phone with USB-C charger, or a newer Mac, or just a third-party USB-C charger.

And everyone without a USB-C charger can buy one and use that.

So many people can just charge, I would say most. Some people can charge by buying a cheap cable (quality cables from Anker about £8 I think). Everyone can charge by buying a USB-C charger, a plain charger from Apple for £19, or something like a multi-port charger for a bit more if you have more than one device in the family.

I wonder why they didn’t just do vouchers. Does France force them to force them on everyone? The only reason I mention vouchers is because not everyone would redeem them, so it seems like it would be less waste than these outer packages. Obviously, I could be very wrong about that.
No, by law the earphones _must_ be included in the sale. Vouchers would mean that some never get the earphones. It's not about money, it's about forcing people to _have_ earphones.

I wish countries would pass a law requiring fingerprint authentication because of the pandemic mask requirement. Would love to have that Touch ID lock button from the iPad Air on the iPhone as well!
You can type in your passcode. You don't have to remove a mask to unlock your phone.

So it would be better to have bigger, more wasteful boxes everywhere, with empty space for no EarPods? Or tool up a whole assembly line just for France’s iPhone boxes?
or just not include headponones like the rest of the world.

Did you read the article? Of course not!

French law demands that manufacturers provide a hands-free accessory with smartphones due to concerns about the effect of electromagnetic waves on the brains.
Are these the same people that say science is real...this is such ********* with no actual evdience.

So where’s your evidence to the contrary? See my earlier post to Mark-Technology about the study done by the IARC. What do you know that they don’t? He didn’t reply, will you?

The comments on here are hilarious. So petty.
I love the fact that Apple is forced to follow this law here in France. The environment argument is highly questionable considering their switch to USB C - Lightening wire in the same box, prompting many to order the new power brick, in a separate packaging... so yeah, sorry Apple, Vive la France!

What are you talking about. Why the hell is it on apple to include a hands free device. That makes about as much sense as making cars include a hands free headset....not to mention any car made the last 5 years probably has hands free built in. Stuipid Government regulations with no real benefit. Everyone and their mother has a headphone from their old phones or bluetooth headset.

Oh dear, do catch up. It’s on Apple because they sell iPhones in France, therefore they have to comply with French law...

French law dictates that headphones or a hands-free kit, must accompany a mobile phone sold in France, to protect the brains of those aged 14 and under, from RF radiation.

You said earlier, “Are these the same people that say science is real...this is such ********* with no actual evdience”. Your statement appeared to suggest the research carried out by the IARC (International Agency for Research on Cancer) that I linked to earlier, was wrong, unless I misread?

What exactly are you driving at with your car analogy?

Can you believe how many people automatically assume that Apple’s methods are even any good at cleaning up the environment?

Maybe it feels better during Apple Watch breathing guru “wellness” incantations, to label toxic waste sent to poor countries as “recycling” to save the planet?

Oh, Apple will donate to medical research... if you buy the special color!

Medical research is important, but not if you pick the black, gold or silver, but those are still good for the environment, so you can feel better about sticking it to AIDS patients since you care about the idea of “environment”. Someone might die from HIV/AIDS, but every Apple phone color helps drown some poor Southeast Asian country in more scrap than they can ever recycle.

The roots of rot at Apple inc. begin in the benevolence and wellness departments.

The irony is, Apple now can’t buy enough social credit to ever escape the shame of being the first tech company to introduce a mobile segregationist tool. While it doesn’t work at all, completely foolish considering the technology, the message that Apple cares is what’s most important.

Have you seen the stunning new display on the iPhone 12? 20% more distracting from the evil horror lurking beneath Tim Cook’s mask!

When next iPhone will be portless in 2021, I hope France will make Apple ship it with Airpods 😜
Even so, that would mean that an iPhone is far more expensive in France than in the rest of the world. Nothing gained for france people.

Actually the price is the same as in other European states that have no headphones, so this point is irrelevant.

You missed part of the conversation there.
This year with the ****** cable earplugs that cost apple 20 cents to manufacture the price is the same.
But @thomas_chk was talking about a hypothetical inclusion of AirPods next year if the iPhone goes portless.
And there is no chance whatsoever that Apple will include AirPods for free, not even for the French.
