I don't mean to get you anymore excited then you already are but I called my local Wal-Mart and they told me that firmware 2.1 is coming tomorrow also!
Thus, confirming what Steve Jobs mentioned on Tuesday.

Yahahaaahaha!!!!!!

For a mintue, I thought what he said on Tuesday is all baloney but I am glad it wasn't.

I'm off to create another post about it.

See ya.

Steve Jobs says it will be released on Friday… which you then doubt.

Someone at WalMart tells you it will be released on Friday and you're ecstatic?
 ;)

I've been using 2.1 since last night and it's INCREDIBLE! It's super fast and rock solid so far. I can't believe how I got used to the slowness/bugginess of 2.0.

You'll see... 2.1 will knock your freakin' socks off!

How do you have it? and notice any new features? or is it finally stable? Just curious.

Not many new features except for Genius and the Music app is a little different (artist shows underneath albums when browsing).

Umm....

It's a LOT faster... feels like 1.1.2 days.
Don't expect new features though. It is more stable too.

Umm.....

Wifi got stronger. I can now pick up a Linksys router that is in my neighbor's house that I couldn't see with 2.0.

Oh, and I have the update because I own an iPod touch and an iPhone :)

Oh, and the correction bubbles in AIM.app now appear above the words, making it easier to type.

Is it really an update if it makes the phone as it should have beeen on July 11? 2.1 update is a joke, no wonder the stock dipped that day. iPod news was no news at all.

Where is the GD GPS? We demand such a feature. Nokia, HTC and many other phones have it, why does iPhone not have turn by turn GPS?

OK, now it's the cue from some (man) people stuck in the Jobsian fog to write how I aim too high, I don't apppreciate what I have and don't deserve the iPhone. OK guys, let me have it.

Tools.

I really think that if push notification or copy/paste or any other new features were coming, Steve would have showed demoes and 'bragged' a bit about the cool new features that were coming. I know that tuesday was an Ipod event, but I still believe that he would have mentioned it.

I disagree. i still think theres a slim possibility of hidden features. If he had mentioned anything more about the iphone update, ipod updates would have been lost in the newspapers and media. So now theres a few days of Ipod headlines and if new stuff are released tomorrow, it will be a news item as well, probably more so since it was a surprise.

That said, I have little to no hope of secret or new features, im just saying its possible from a PR prospective why he didn't mention it.

I plan on avoiding it for the first week and seeing how people react to it on the forums.

Better to let the early adopters find the bugs than to be plagued with them myself. ;)

I plan on avoiding it for a few days as well. When I upgraded to 2.0 the servers were hit so hard that my phone was bricked for 3-4 hours. I don't want to go through that again.

If I remember correctly, when you plug in your phone and it finds the update on the servers - you have the option to just download the update and not install it right away.

You do realize that you can download only without installing right?

I wonder if they fixed the location services so you can leave it on and it won't drain the battery as it goes to sleep. I sure hope soo. :D

Yes, I realize that. But if I'm not going to install it right away, what is the rush to download it?

it's like having a whole new device. You get so used to the crappy 2.0.2 that once you upgrade to 2.1 it's such a breath of fresh air. I don't even care about the lack of new features because this is nice.

By the way, I typed this on 2.1. No lag.

I cannot wait to get rid of crashing applications! I'm not waiting a week to see how people like it - I already am really frustrated with 2.0.2 and doubt anything could make it worse.

Thank god for that… although people really should put sarcasm signs in their posts.
;)
Was that sarcastic? In the UK we just basically assume that everything anyone ever says is sarcastic (and we're usually right).

I keep reading "Significantly better battery life"

I seriously would like to know how an OS update is going to accomplish that.

My guess is, it goes from being pathetic to slightly less pathetic, if that.

Better power management? Software that allows the CPU to go through less cycles when needed? I'm sure there are ways.

My iPhone was in the same room when I watched Steve Jobs announce 2.1. The iPhone definitely seems zippier now with less lag.

Hey, do you guys think it will be released at midnight, given a certain time zone??

This is what I am wondering as well. Of course no one really knows. I am kinda surprised Arn hasn't posted anything about it. I hope it will be though. It would make sense to kinda roll it out with the time zones so as to not overburden the Apple servers all at once. I know I have tomorrow morning off so I will be checking at midnight. :)
