LMAO, here you are thinking you can fool non car enthusiasts on an apple forum into thinking you have the "low end version of the R35". HAHAHA.
Glad I live in Australia, we get all the skylines here. My next car will be an R34.

Only 1996-1998 R33s are legal to import here in the US, due to a very complicated and shady series of moves on the part of grey market importers and a subesquent crackdown by the Feds.
For as good a car as the Skyline is, it's simply not worth getting a pre-R35 machine into the states. You'd honestly be better off with a similarly-aged Porsche 911 Turbo or even a Ferrari F355 for what a truly legal Skyline, especially one of the few R34s, costs here.
Umm... it kinda is. The Skyline line of cars includes the G37... Obviously not as expensive, but the G37 is called the Skyline 370gt in Japan
My next car might not be as fast as an R34, but it's awesome that you are getting a used Nissan 😉
The GT-R is all about the 0-100km/h and the gadgets helping you go fast. LFA is different, more about feel, sound and the design. You don't have your fancy 4wd, you have to drive it and respect it, feel it getting near the limits of traction and keep it near that limit. I love the LFA, even though I'll never afford one in a million years. It's special - and the one I did have the pleasure of seeing in person, prototype though it was, had the look and feel of something very special and exotic.
Personally, I don't like the modern GT-R so much, I'm still stuck in the old days with rose-tinted glasses and those Group A Gibson Motorsport Skyline GT-Rs. Though I didn't respect them that much back then, now - you can see the significance of them.
Looking back, they were scary fast for the day - 630hp out of just 2.6L and good enough to take on the Ford Sierra RS500 Cosworth and beat them (with the exception of one Australian Sierra team). 😉
Oh, those were the days. 😎 BMW M3, Ford Sierra RS500, Skyline GT-R, even Mercedes 190E and some various others all against each other. Great variety.
But all that said, a modern GT-R (still nice) or even any other sports car is a bit of a waste in todays age of strict speed limits and speed cameras everywhere.
Something like a BMW 535D makes more sense sadly, or even the BMW m550D if you must go faster. Speed with economy and 5 seats. (where is the old person emoticon!)
That's a V36 though, not an R35 if I'm not mistaken.

You're right. I just said that it was a lower end skyline though, and it is technically a skyline. I just said it was a lower end of the GT-R... which it kind of is.
Just because your car is a skyline doesn't mean it's ANYTHING remotely close to the R34 OR the R35. The R35 isn't even a skyline. Used doesn't mean anything with cars if you know how to work on them, which you obviously don't when you spew BS about how your car is the cheaper version of an R35.....

You're correct, the 350/370GT line would be considered the entry level Skyline in Japan. While it shares nothing with its GT-R big brother other than the model name its still part of that lineup.
I had a 2008 G35 Sport that I just traded in for a 2012 S4 Prestige. I did the BMW thing and after having a horrible time with my 06 330i I've pretty much given up on buying or leasing another one.

Nope. The S14 was only sold till 1998, then no more Silvias here. Even S14s are uncommon.
Many people give up on trying to get their hands on never-officially-sold-here cars and just slap an SR20DET (or even RB25DETT in some cases) in some other easy to find Nissan, like a Sentra, 240SX, Infiniti G20 (Primera), Infiniti J30 (Leopard), etc etc.
I used to own an Altima, and wished I could get a U13 Bluebird SSS ATTESA....
That really sucks. I love nissan JDM imports. Glad we can have them here.

I'm not trolling, the R35 is not part of the skyline lineup at all.
I know how to drive cars well, its honestly that with college and preparation for my future, I don't have time to deal with the modding and fixing and playing with a car that was used by someone else who may or may not have taken care of it (especially with a sports car that's driven like many GT-R owners drive).
Maybe its a stigma, but I personally want a car that nobody else has touched other than the dealer when I drive it off the lot.

Nice, I can totally relate to the squeals of delight when your friend revs it near the start, it sounds amazing.
It was like when I was in my uncles Aston Martin, I was in the passenger seat playing it casual (though I was completely buzzing, I was sitting in my dream car 😛), when we got to the open road though...I'm pretty sure I sounded like a 12 year old again 😱

I wanted an S13 200SX when I was still in the UK, they're getting to be pretty few and far between though, especially when looking for one with the vLSD and manual transmission (all have been drifted already it seems!)

That's the problem with buying a used sports car. They are usually driven abusively by a young man and then sold for full bluebook value to another unsuspecting young man. 😱
Getting an original JDM (or any foreign) sports car into the US is very difficult in most cases (unless they pass the magical age of 25 years, in which case you're home free).
The Silvia was sold here in slightly modified form as the 240SX, and a dedicated enthusiast can buy a donor JDM Silvia and transplant the parts to create a car that is very close to a Japanese Silvia - even though it legally counts as an American 240SX because the chassis has a US VIN number. In order to make it truly 100% legal you have to do an awful lot of work though - in the end most people just count on the fact that the authorities won't notice the illegal bits.
The Nissan Skyline fiasco happened because complete cars (that were never sold here and thus easy to spot) were being imported and sold for high prices; eventually it transpired that the importer had half-assed the process of getting the cars to meet crash and emissions standards. As a result their license/certifications to import and sell the cars were pulled and many cars were siezed right out of customers' driveways. Some were grandfathered in. Most of the other JDM imports coming here fly under the radar because the cars arrive sawed in half as front or rear clips, or just a pile of engine/transmission/wiring harness. They are built up into (usually) illegal DIY frankenstein cars and generally fly under the radar.
Lower profile modifications (like a simple engine swap) are much easier to get away with and are the preferred route, since you get most of the performance benefits of the original JDM sports cars without as much of the legal risk, especially in places that don't do regular emissions testing.

I feel sorry for you guys. Here in Aus we can get all nissans locally, and there are plenty of immaculate examples of them. If however, you felt the need to import one from Japan, it's a similar price to buying one locally, and there are TRILLIONS of nice cars in Japan, amongst crap ones obviously, but we aren't short of clean, unmolested JDM imports.
SaMaster14, until you've been on a track and learned to drift and drive properly, you don't know how to drive "well". Driving on a road is very different. I'm a university student myself, there's no reason you can't have a daily driver and a skyline for the track and street when you've got spare time.

I've waited for FOREVER for an 'american' Skyline...too bad I won't be able to afford one anytime soon. lol
The R34 has always been my favorite anyway.
my buddy had one in germany. bought it for somewhere around $20,000 after coming back from iraq. money well spent, until he had to sell it before leaving for the states🙁
