I can respect the GTR, but I still don't like how it looks. Yes, it's the best bang for the buck, but styling is important to me.

You said he makes over 100k a year, yet he drives a 90k car...Once you factor in rent/mortgage and living expenses that is still alot of car for that salary...With my yearly bonus I make just over 100k and at most could probably afford a 25k car.

Most people you see tooling around in Escalades (and there are a lot of them out there) probably make less money than you do. They are simply deeper in debt.

Sure, GTRs are very fast. Sure, they're probably great to drive. But at the end of the day, it's still a Nissan. There's no style, no class, no beauty.

Give me a much cheaper but much more attractive Alfa Romeo any day...

Nissans are very reliable and well engineered. Alfas? Not so much.

The Skyline is a technological terror, but not very suave; Alfas are beautiful, soulful and fun albeit flawed.

Still, I'd take an 8C Competizione over a Skyline GTR any day.

You're right; a friend of mine bought an Alfa before Christmas and already it has broken down. However, who buys a supercar to be reliable and well engineered? They're insane cars built for speed, not for doing 100,000 without a hiccup.

No point buying a fast car if it spends more time in the shop than it does on the road/track.

The Nissan engineering is also what helps it corner and accelerate very well, and the aerodynamics of the design contribute to this as well as the flat out speed.

Tell that to Lamborghini, Ferrari, Jaguar, Aston Martin, Maserati, Alfa Romeo etc etc....RX-7 Wankels don't have the best reliability record in the world either.

And to be fair, most sports car afficionados' "improvements" to their cars usually result in dramatically reduced reliability.

I had a friend once who owned a Saab 900 Turbo, and discovered that, by simply turning up the boost, he could dramatically increase the car's horesepower. What followed became a hilariously expensive lesson in the critical relationship between a turbocharged car's boost pressure, cooling system, and fuel injector capacity. 😉

I don't think that anyone is going to argue that the GTR isn't an incredibly well-engineered car. But Nissan isn't the only company out their building amazing supercars either.

But personally, IMHO, if I was spending my own money on a supercar I'd go for the GTR, because not only does it have the awesome performance but it's actually a decently reliable car. I could use it every day and have fun drives without worrying about it breaking down.

And it goes without saying that most people who think they can "improve" on what the manufacturers have done to the cars, unless they happen to be actual car experts, end up doing anything but 😛

I think you're overstating the case on the GTR's reliability a little bit. Ferraris and Lambos are much more reliable now than they were in the 1970s (a time when the Skyline was not even close to the supercar it is today). Most of them make perfectly acceptable daily drivers (at least from a rich man's point of view). Also, there are other supercars out there such as the Porsche 911 that have a very high reputation for reliability, certainly the equal of the GTR.

If I was looking to spend $90k on a sports car, reliability would not be a major factor, since just about everything out there is fairly reliable.

Japanese sports cars have a devopted group of loyalists, just like every other type of car. A Corvette lover would not touch a GTR, nor would an Italian supercar fan. Conversely, you could hand a Japanese car fan the keys to a Ferrari and he'd look as though you'd just slapped him.

Personally, I'd take any one of them and be thrilled. 😉

Unfortunately the SLS is about twice the price and the GTR is almost as fast.
