OP: Have you ever seen a 75” tv that costs less than a 55” tv?

Reason #1 you are wrong. When OLED TV’s came out in the market you could get 70” plus LED TV’s less the LG’s OLED 55” TV’s.

Reason #2 you are wrong. A fair comparison in TV’s would be a 55” to a 60”. And yes there are 55” TV’s more expensive then 60” TV’s.

As long as one of these models doesn’t use flickering tech (PWM) like the X currently does, then I’m in.

I still don't understand why an iPhone X is still hailed as having an edge-to-edge display, when it doesn't actually have an edge-to-edge display.
Product marketing and pedantry travel different paths. :D There's no room for exactitude when sales are at stake. In the case of the edge-to-edge display, generalization says close enough is close enough.

I believe you need to reread what I wrote, mate.

Is this cropped or does the notch seem smaller on the 6,5''?

Why thick bezels on lcd model?

LCD, unlike oled, requires backlighting located on the sides of the screen and emitting light parallel to the screen surface. This takes space. Additionally, led requires driver circuitry that takes some space.

One of the major advantages of oled is that it requires essentially zero surrounding space.

The notch on oled iPhones seems a bit smaller.
Add this to list of why the iPhone 6.1 is cheaper . Thicker bezels, lcd screen, metal frame, no 3D Touch, and now version 1 Face ID tech, while the oled models get the smaller version two Face ID tech.

I think it’s a mistake to make the base iPhone so big. A lot of people prefer a smaller form factor. Hopefully they aren’t done with the SE and produce an X-style version of it as well. Just because it’s smaller doesn’t mean they need to sell it for so much less! My wife just flat refuses to get one of these huge devices that are not very accessible for her smaller hands and pockets.

Could be identical faceid tech but LED requires bigger bezels all around, including in the notch, so the notch needs to be a tad bigger.

Lower quality display.

This is true, but I think that fact will be lost on most consumers who will view the 6.1 as the "mid-range" iPhone with the 5.8 as the "low end" and the 6.5 as the high end. In the future, when the entire lineup goes to OLED I image they'll eliminate either the 5.8 or the 6.1.

I don't like the bigger bezels on the LCD 6.1. I wonder if that's why it's 6.1--to make up for the fatter bezels?

History shows it wasn’t a mistake. People complained before that the base model was too big. Apple sales shot through the roof despite the complaints. Eventually they release the SE to accommodate the complainers. But it turns out that while vocal and loud, the actual number of people who demand a smaller phone is very small compared to those who,buy the bigger phones.

Why bigger notch on lcd ?

Looks pretty disappointing for 2018. Will probably upgrade MBP instead and keep using iphone X.
MBP is at least for me the biggest disappointment of 2018. Basically nothing else than a specs bump. They are unable to come up with a machine everybody will be craving for. How sad. And all this just because of Apple total ignorance.

Why would you even have the need to upgrade from iPhone X? The time when people upgraded each year should be long gone as the tech advancements are super tiny compared to the beginning.
So, be realistic and save your money :)
I might upgrade but I'm still undecided as I'm not too crazy about the notch so I might pick up discounted iPhone 8. (my iPhone 6 is starting to show its age :-D )

A major part of that is because of the cheaper price point in a larger form factor. It’s still offers a refreshed form factor coupled with with Face ID, the major difference being it doesn’t offer an OLED display, but I think most consumers can look past that given Apple has had reputable LCD panels in the past.

I love the LCD of my 8+
OLED is better, but if I could save money and get a phone with all the latest and greatest (same SoC, same camera, 3D touch etc.) with an LCD I think I'd go for it.
OLED would be great with a dark mode, but I guess we'll have to wait at least another year so LCD is still a great choice.
I'm afraid the "budget" 6.1 model will miss something though, so the second version of the 5.8'' model could be my next iPhone. Less than 2 months and we'll find out

Huge speed increase (biggest in years), 32gb ram (which was one of the biggest complaints for years), possibly fixed keyboard, etc.

Was certainly more than anyone who follows Apple actually expected this year. Tough to call it a disappointment when the definition of disappointment is “not living up to expectations.”

Probably the same reason. To get the same amount of space for the camera and faceid hardware. LED screens always need a little surrounding space, unlike oled, so you lose a little space to the buffer zone.
Will it have wireless charging?

It’s not a mistake.

Where is your data for people preferring a smaller form factor?

And remember, iPhone X has a 5.8 inch screen and is the size of an iPhone 8.
