Wouldn't Care If They Called It Something Else

Not sold on the name "iPad" so this is one fight I wouldn't mind if Apple lost...

Regardless, they could call it the "iCrap" and I would still buy one.:D

terrible name anyway...

if it's a PAD... then you have to be able to WRITE ON IT.

there is no question. pads are written on. end of story.

how can you call it a pad when there is no writing? stupid!

What about a landing pad? Helipad? Launch pad? Or the bottom of a cat's foot, that's a pad. A lily pad. I can live in a pad. Don't be so dramatic.

ok for all of you that call a girls sanitary rag a pad, no one calls it that anymore. its a tampon. also if you think of a pad that way then your just messed up. a pad can be other things.

Actually, a tampon is a tampon and maxi-pad is a maxi-pad. They're different products that serve the same use in different ways.

That said, I never made the iPad/feminie hygene product connection until I read all the press this morning. "Pad" to me is a pad of paper or a swinging 1960's apartment. I hoped for "iBook" as well, until it was pointed out that the general public would simply infer that it is simply an eReader.

iPad is fine, in the long run we'll get used to it.

reversal?

In a system that is sensitive to "similar" names it wouldn't be at all a surprise if Fujitsu's iPad trademark were decided to be too similar to iPod.

In regards to all the people bashing on the iPad name-

"Wii" <-- One of the best selling game consoles of all time.

Names grow on people, and sometimes their quirkiness actually works in their favor.

I don't really think of feminine products when I hear the name Wii... but when someone says iPad, it brings me back to the 2007 Mad TV skit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lsjU0K8QPhs

Too bad nobody at Apple watches Mad TV.

I'm with fujitsu on this one.. Looks like Steve has some karma coming to him.. anyone remember the iPodRip??

"Apple, known for vigorously protecting its trademark and brand names, had a problem with the app because it had the iPod brand name in its name. When the Little App Factory CEO John Devor emailed Steve Jobs regarding the issue, the CEO fired back a two-sentence reply:

Change your apps name. Not that big of a deal.

Steve

Fujitsu’s name, so... Apple better pay up!

I have the feeling they’ll sell enough to cover it.

Seems like Fujitsu is gifting Apple an out here. Apple should go back to the well and get a better name then issue a press release saying "we respect Fujitsu's intellectual property." Isn't that kind of what they did when they renamed Rendezvous to Bonjour (not that Bonjour was a great new name).

Maybe Apple could intentionally lose this one to get rid of the name...

Yes ... or Apple could have just thought up an innovative name out of all the real words in the English language (and made-up ones, too, for that matter), then verified with their legions of lawyers that another company didn't own it, nor ever had. Doesn't seem so hard. In fact, seems a no-brainer.

i can't believe either one of these companies want that name!

I presume it's 'funny' in the USA, or is it just the playground schoolboys s******ing?, but iPad doesn't mean anything other than a Pad for writing on here in the UK and means nothing elsewhere.

Seems like a perfect name to me.

Meanwhile...

'iTab' - in English English a Tab is a fag. A fag is a cigarette here.

'iSlate' - Apart from 'Is Late', Slate in English English is a verb to criticise. Very negative word.

So, from this side of the pond, the alternatives being suggested are much much much worse than iPad. Re-using 'iBook' might have been an ok idea though and Apple already owned that, especially as they've repurposed it for the iBooks store now.

Get over it children. It's called the iPad and it's going to be a success. No amount of infantile bitching is going to change this.

good, maybe now apple will stop putting fujitsu hard drives in their machines and I will finally stop having to replace the dead ones!
