iPad

Fujitsu Siemens is fighting Apple over the name 'iPad'.

Procter & Gamble will follow suite.

Didn't apple come up with the whole "i" craze?

If that's the case, it kind of seems silly for another company to try to sue them after ripping off their product designation in the first place.
Compaq started the "i" thing.
Apple "borrowed" the naming schema with the introduction of the iPod and has tried to lay claim to all things "i" ever since.
Pretty childish if you ask me.
And for the record, iPad is a lame name.
It's larger and slightly more advanced version of the iPod Touch. Apple should name it accordingly.

iThink that it started with the iMac in 1998. iMight be wrong though.

Maybe Apple could intentionally lose this one to get rid of the name...

I'd definitely be ok with this.

In regards to all the people bashing on the iPad name-

"Wii" <-- One of the best selling game consoles of all time.

Names grow on people, and sometimes their quirkiness actually works in their favor.

Doesn't mean that it grew in a good way. People still make fun of that name all time (not to mention all Nintendo markets to now are children and stay-at-home moms).

Well, I see the iPad as just a bigger version of the iPod Touch.
So with that in mind I'd call the iPod Touch the "Mini-Pad" and the iPad the "Maxi-Pad".

Is it just me or do they use the Fujitsu iPads as POS in Apple Stores?

Yes, did in Liverpool store last time I went in before Christmas because I asked about the new Apple iPod Touch system and he said they would have it very soon but for now the Fujitsu machine was still in place

Intel, sometime back when the i386 was the big chip

Someone else probably did similar but I remember Intel, figure 88 versus the iPod in 2001

iTouch is a name of a Logitech product

Apple: Great Product Crappy Name (you know there were no women on the naming committee) Anyway, they should cut their losses and change the name now before it's release. This fiasco will then quickly disappear.

iScreen??

It's a name, who cares? I would have liked it to be named something a little more elegant that manages to actually evoke the device's functionality, but the jokes about iPad are really ****ing lame (not to mention, completely played out and unoriginal at this point).

When someone says 'pad of paper', do you people start snickering, 'kekeke, MAXI-pad??? LOLL'.

'Hey, want to come visit my condo?'

'kekeke, what your CONDOM??? LOLL'

Im sorry I have to be a little obnoxious here but....
Why is every company always trying to sue Apple?

Seriously, half of the updates here are "X company in lawsuit with Apple over X" Apple always wins, give it up.

Who cares!? Branding and advertising will play a big part so the name is extremely important.

spot the guy who knows nothing about women. it's ok, when you grow up you'll find out that tampons go inside, while pads do not. they're not the same thing at all. either that or you'll find you like munching on pillows

if you owned a dictionary or knew how to use the internet you would know that a tampon is both.

Just pointing out that the "i" in i386 chip has nothing to do with the "i" in current-day products where it typically denotes "Internet."

I don't know which company was the first to use the "i" prefix for an Internet-enabled device (or for any product that the manufacturer wanted to seem cool, futuristic and/or technologically modern), but I would bet significantly that it occurred well after all the i386, i486, et al, chips were relics (very late 90s/early 00s, maybe?).

Why is Apple always using names other companies have used, trademarked or registered an association with? It's not like there's a shortage of words or anything.
