There are a lot. But, the mac they show at the end isn't a notebook (MB or MBP) it is an iMac.

Are there ads where they actually show a laptop?

I always thought they use the iMac as some sort of icon representing the mac.

Yes, they do show a MacBook at the end of some of them (especially the "injured" PC commercial).

Photokina

I still think the new Merom MBPs will be announced at this big "Showtime" event at Photokina. I mean, they would not be making such a big deal about a free Aperture 1.5 update, would they? That would be silly. The pro Photogs use Pro Notebooks, hence, we will see the new MMBPs at this big Photokina event.

Anyone know the time difference in Cologne?

inside info

This dude inside my head tells me to buy a used/refurb 1.8 MBP for around $1400 and a used 17" sub-$1000 Powerbook for my wife instead of waiting for a merom MBP.
I could shut him up before, but he's getting louder and louder in there as the weeks go on.
This time next week with no updates, and I'll submit.

Huh?

The showtime event was over WEEKS ago! Unless the planet you are on has 30 day weeks!

1.83GHz vs. 2GHz = No Difference In Yonah • Big Difference In Merom

Anyone have any opinions on the real difference between 1.83 and 2ghz? Thank you!
Core Duo you won't know the difference. Core 2 Duo you will because the 2GHz Merom has a 4MB L2 Shared Cache, 1.83GHz Merom has only 2MB L2 shared cache like Yonah which is only 2MB on either speed.

After ignoring the dude in my head for months I caved in and my refurb 2.16 17" MBP arrives on Friday. The money saved will buy another 1gb ram, parallels and still leave me the best part of £200 in my pocket. Cant complain really! I would have loved to have waited for the revision but I had promised my current laptop to someone by the end of september at the latest and it is the selling of this that is funding the MBP. Any longer and he would have gone and bought one off the net.

Apple will not be able to sell notebooks over the holiday season* BECAUSE THEY WILL BE OUT OF STOCK SOON unless!!!.... They bring somthing new out, that would be a good idea!

come on...

Good point. I may just buy a used MBP if I can find a steal on ebay and then sell it when the new batch come out.

OS X rocks! i'm typing this on my XP running MBP and its frustating that i don't have dashboard around nor expose to toggle between windows/apps, i miss the ability to look up words in the dictionary whilst browsing. I want to burn a CD but again i need to go find nero. On OS X i just fire up Disk Utility. Even nero has its issues, my brother had to borrow my PB to burn a CD last night because nero was acting out.

Uh, you don't need Nero to burn a CD... XP has all the same disc burning capabilities (CD and DVD) that OSX has. Nero is good for some things, just as apps like Toast are good for some things on the Mac, but my advice would be to uninstall the crap software. :D

I'm a firm believer that 90% of PC problems come from the crappy bloated junkware that system vendors include with their systems. When buying a new PC, the very first thing you should do is wipe the hard drive and install a clean copy of Windows without all the third-party BS. Anti-virus software is a good idea - I recommend AVG from Grisoft. I wouldn't use Norton or Macafee or any of the typical ones. They cost too much money and use too many system resources. Not to mention they typically cause more trouble than they're worth. Ad-Aware from lavasoft is great for managing cookies and spyware. I wisth there was a good app like this for OSX. Not that we really have a spyware problem on the Max, but some better management of tracking cookies and security would be welcome.

I did! Got one for $400 off as a refurb at the Apple Store Online. I called and it is ready to ship already! (Ordered it at 11AM this morning). :D

OK. I'm confused. I thought Photokina has come...and gone. No? Please enlighten me if this is not so?

Sidenote, i wonder what the next metal will be. We've used magnesium, titanium and aluminium. Whats next?

Berylium. Oh, wait... That's heavy and toxic... Hmmmm.

Actually, I'd like to see a titanium or aluminum frame/chassis/skeleton with a carbon fiber shell.. Carbon fiber can be made in or enameled with all sorts of pretty colors. It's still prefer it in black or silver though. OTOH, a nice lime green or burnt-orange would be cool just so others would look at it and gag. :D

At last! A sane post!

People who switch to the OSX platform just because it is "better" due to less choice are just people who cut off their noses to spite their faces...

Especially with them releasing the new commercials on their website, normally they would also flood the TV with them.

The new Apple commercials were all on during Monday Night Football this week.

"What's up... PC home movie." :D

You may be on to something there. Since the Core2 Duo has 4MB of L2 at 2GHz and up, there could be a heat problem, since L2 cache is apparently a big heat generator. Maybe the notebooks have to be redesigned to accomodate increased heat production from the CPU. This could explain the delay...

Some people switch to the OSX platform because it is "better"...period.

Or we could be dreaming and the delays are due to some marketer waiting to press the trigger...

Then the new MBPs will ship off with more of the same old issues which could have been ironed out in the waited time instead of generating more "snazz"
